The wolf charged in but was t with a table. Hilda had spotted it lying around and knew it would act as a perfect distraction. The table blocked the wolf’s vision, but its sturdy body easily broke it in two.

Hilda quickly threw a knife from behind the table, catching the wolf off guard. With minimal ti to react, the wolf’s face received a new decoration as the knife struck it. It scread in pain. As a creature, it wasn’t very smart to begin with, and the distortion of its frontal face made it even dumber than before, but this simple trick proved quite effective.

Hilda quickly inflicted pain upon herself to make the wolf feel even worse. Her blade had been aid at its brain, intending to kill it in a single strike however, upon seeing it limping, she went for the kill shot.

The wolf howled in agony, more intensely than before. Hilda closed in, transferred her hand injuries to the wolf, then stabbed it with another knife she pulled from her dress. She stabbed it a few more tis and kicked it to ensure it was dead.

"I...Is it dead?"

The tribesman Hilda had dragged into safety peeked out from another room. When she engaged the monster, he had quickly taken the chance to hide, only looking out once the commotion had ended.

What a coward.

Not only had he imprisoned her, but when she was fighting, this guy hid. Hilda thought there had to be so code among the tribes to punish cowardice like this. Still, she didn’t bla him too much; if she were a normal person, this wolf would have terrified her too.

"Yes, you can co out now."

"T....Thank you for helping . I would have t the goddess." Naturally, the Sun God’s radiance didn’t reach this place, so the northern people worshiped the goddess of the hunt. While hiding, the tribesman had also clutched his necklace, which showed a figure holding a bow.

"Don’t worry, Egul hired to help."

Hilda said, reassuring the shaking tribesman.

"Thank you again. I’m Pon. I’m worried I offended the chosen. Please forgive my ignorance."

Mystic users here were called "chosen" because they were perceived as chosen by the gods. They served a similar role to priests, though with a different na and slightly different aning.

Hilda looked at Pon, not with the fondest expression.

"I’ll go help others. Do whatever you want."

Hilda cut the conversation short and dashed out of the front door, which was now just a hole. She intended to fight more of this terrifying monster.

After using her power, Theia gained quite a headache. She was contemplating whether to use her power to quickly kill this wolf or save it for the right mont. If she kept the wolf out for more than 10 seconds, she could end up asleep in the middle of this beast invasion, leaving her life in Leon’s hands.

This guy isn’t quite...good...

He could fight, sure, but he was a little cowardly when it ca to facing the unknown. He’d been very cocky with the deer because he was already familiar with how it attacked. Thinking back, Theia could say the sa when he faced humans—the way he handled that situation was miles different than now.

The wolf quickly circled around, looking for a mont to jump in. Theia stood still, staring into its malford eyes, which were displaced to the side. Leon’s muscles tense up ready for anything that the wolf would do.

How does this thing even see?

Theia wondered, noticing how twisted its eyes were. It didn’t seem to affect the wolf’s coordination much, though. However, maybe seeing the world from such angles could agitate soone. She wouldn’t know.

But what she did know was that the wolf was starting to attack. Its body was far too nimble for Leon to catch, as it easily dodged his ice swing. Theia, who was on high alert, quickly ducked to the side. If she’d been a second late, she would have been bitten in the abdon—that wouldn’t have felt very good.

The wolf quickly readjusted itself on the snow, building up its montum again. But Theia swiftly kicked the snow under her feet, sending it flying to block the wolf’s vision. At that mont, Leon attempted to swing the mystic wood at the wolf’s face.

However, he was too slow and only grazed the wolf’s back with his mystic power. Theia had anticipated Leon’s attack might miss, but her body was too slow to act. She stumbled into a wall, disoriented. The wolf’s mouth opened, but it only managed to tear a bit of her fur jacket.

The malford wolf crashed into the wall behind Theia. She quickly got up and summoned her wolf—there was no doubt anymore, she needed to eliminate this creature before she fell asleep. Or just leave her life in Leon’s hands, it’s better than dying here.

It chased down the enemy wolf, following it into the hole, and did exactly what it was summoned to do. The wolf twisted the mutant’s neck clean off, killing it instantly.

Leon arrived next to Theia and looked curiously through the newly made hole in the house, hoping to help the wolf Theia had summoned. However, he saw that her wolf had already dealt with the malford creature.

Theia couldn’t hold on any longer and fell asleep. Leon couldn’t help but feel bitter, once again, he had been useless in a fight. Now the burden of being weak was his to bear after Theia gained her wolf-summoning ability and had been using it heavily.

"We’re sheltering people in the center hall!"

The call ca at the perfect ti. Leon could handle a few deer, but seeing the wolf had shaken him to his core. That malford creature had been faster and fiercer than any of the deer he’d encountered. He needed to rebuild his confidence.

Realizing it would be hard to defend an unconscious Theia, he quickly lifted her onto his back and followed the suggestion, heading to the city hall.
