That night, Ren and Thorn sat alone in Ren’s room.

The window was open and cool air filtered into the room, the distant sounds of the clanking of a patrolling night guard’s armor occasionally breaking the silence.

Thorn sat back in his chair, rolling his shoulders carefully. Though he was healing well, he was still recovering, aning there would be no mission tonight.

Ren could have gone alone, but he decided not to. Instead, they sat there, sharing stories and jokes, reminiscing about their ti at the border.

"Rember that one ti," Thorn chuckled, "when we set up that ’genius’ ambush, only to have those barbarians completely ignore the trap and just charge straight at us?"

Ren smirked. "I rember you running faster than anyone else."

"Hey." Thorn raised a finger. "I wasn’t running. I was relocating to a more strategic position."

Ren shook his head. "Sure, let’s go with that."

"Doesn’t matter. You were following behind ."

"Nah." Ren smirked. "I was mimicking the relocation expert."

They shared a laugh before a mont of silence stretched between them.

Then, Thorn leaned forward, his expression shifting to sothing more thoughtful. "I’ve been holding this back for a while," he admitted, "but I think if I don’t ask now, my curiosity would eat alive."

Ren arched a brow. "Go ahead."

Thorn hesitated briefly before exhaling. "How do you know so much about everything?"

Ren said nothing.

"You knew about the barbarian’s fighting style and power back when we first went back to the border. You knew about this criminal organization, Fuchsia, and the secret healer." Thorn said. "Not that I’m not grateful but… how did you know about everything?"

Ren didn’t respond imdiately. He considered deflecting, giving Thorn so half-truth, but after everything they had been through, he knew Thorn deserved the full story.

He trusted Thorn with his life. He took a deep breath and spoke words that could not be taken back. "Before I was Terence Ross, I was soone else in another world."

Thorn’s eyes narrowed slightly. "What do you an?"

Ren t his gaze. "Before I was Terence Ross, I was Ren Kuroda. I lived another life before this one."

For a mont, Thorn simply stared at him, trying to process the words. "You... rember your past life?"

Ren nodded. "Every detail." He paused. "Well, not every detail but I rember."

Thorn leaned back in his chair, rubbing his chin. "That’s... a lot to take in. You’re serious?"

Ren sighed. "When I first woke up here, I thought it was all a dream at first. A ga. Because the world around looked familiar. I’ve read all about it in the pages of the internet."

Thorn remained silent for a long ti, absorbing the information. "Wait. So, you’re saying you already know the future?"

Ren shook his head. "Not exactly. I rember how things are supposed to happen but ti is not rigid. Every decision we make changes sothing."

"When I realized that was when I knew that this world was just as real as the one I’d left behind. The people were… people. Flesh and blood with lives. People who’re not following scripts but are actually in charge of every decision they make."

"It was… scary. And liberating."

"So, you know what my future will be?" Thorn asked.

"Unfortunately not."

Thorn let out a long breath. "Damn. And I thought I had a lot to think about."

Ren chuckled softly. "That’s why I know so much. Why I’ve been preparing. Because there are things coming that the world is not even prepared for."

"A Plague. A Civil War. One Calamity after the other." He exhaled. "And I’ve got to stop them all or the world is dood."

It felt good to say it out loud. All the feelings he’d kept bottled in his chest. It felt good to tell soone else. Soone he trusted.

Only now that it was out did he realize just how much the knowledge had been weighing on him.

Thorn rubbed his face. "Alright. This is insane. But... it’s you. If it was anyone else, I’d call them crazy. But I trust you. And if you say this is the truth, then I believe you."

Ren nodded, appreciating Thorn’s acceptance. "I don’t expect you to understand everything imdiately. But you asked. That’s your answer."

Thorn was quiet for a mont before he sat up, his expression shifting to sothing more curious. "Okay. So what was your old world like?"

Ren smirked. "You really want to know?"

"Are you kidding? Of course, I do!" Thorn gestured. "You’re telling you rember your past life in a completely different world! How could I not ask about that?"

Ren laughed. "Alright. Ask away."

Thorn’s first question was simple. "Okay, how was the comfort in your past life?"

Ren thought for a mont. "Compared to here? Unbelievably so."

"We didn’t use magic, but we had technology. Machines could do things that people couldn’t. We had vehicles that could fly across the world in a matter of hours. We had devices that allowed us to communicate instantly with people on the other side of the planet."

Thorn’s jaw dropped slightly. "You’re serious?"

Ren nodded. "Completely."

"No magic?"

"No magic. Just science. And technology."

Thorn let out a low whistle. "That’s insane. Science must be another form of magic. What else did you guys have?"

The questions kept coming.

Ren told him about skyscrapers, towers of tal and glass that touched the sky.

He told him about cities filled with millions of people, about weapons that could destroy entire lands with the push of a button.

Thorn’s reactions ranged from shock to awe to outright disbelief, but each ti, Ren assured him it was the truth.

"Alright." Thorn finally said, rubbing his temples. "I need a mont. This is... a lot."

Ren chuckled. "I expected that."

Thorn let out a deep breath before smirking. "Alright, last question. If your world had no magic, what’s the strongest weapon you had?"

Ren hesitated. "It’s not a weapon in the way you’re thinking. It was called a nuclear bomb. It could wipe entire cities off the map in seconds within the snap of a finger."

Thorn stared at him, eyes wide. "...I take it back. I don’t want to visit your world."

Ren smirked. "That’s fair."

The conversation lulled, a comfortable silence settling between them. Then, Ren reached out and lifted his hand. "One last thing."

Thorn raised an eyebrow as Ren positioned his fingers in a distinct pattern.

Five fingers out, then he curled his thumb into his palm, then covered it with the remaining four fingers.

"This is called SOS. It’s a distress signal. If you ever need , personally or in battle, flash this sign and I’ll be there for you."

Thorn studied it, then mimicked the motion. "Like this?"

Ren nodded. "Exactly."

Thorn grinned. "Got it. Looks like I’ve got my own secret code now."

Ren chuckled. "Our secret code."

The two sat in comfortable silence. Thorn still had questions, and Ren had answers, but for now, it was enough.

Now, they had a stronger bond of trust that nothing could break.

Not even the end of the world.
