A week had passed since Ren ca to the Underwood lands, and the ti had finally co for him to return ho.

He had spent the last few days training and exploring with Lilith, with the fully recovered Thorn and quiet Elias watching over them of course.

And in the space of a few days, the Underwood estate, which had once seed so unfamiliar, had beco sothing else entirely.

It was now a place of… friendship, a place of challenge, of growth, and, unexpectedly, of connection.

But before he left, there was one last thing he had to do.

To say goodbye.

After a few minutes of searching around, he finally found Lilith in the library, which he’d quickly learned was her usual place of retreat.

She sat by the sa window where they had spoken before, knees drawn to her chest, staring absently at the outside world.

The room was quiet, only the sound of Ren’s footsteps echoing as he walked closer.

Lilith knew he was there but she said nothing, not moving from her perch.

Ren cleared his throat as he crossed his arms, leaning against the nearest shelf. "Hiding again?"

Lilith turned her head slightly, her crimson eyes eting his. "Not hiding. Just… thinking."

Ren walked toward her, pulling out a chair from a nearby table and sitting beside her. "Thinking about what?"

She hesitated, then exhaled. "You’re leaving."

Ren nodded. "I am."

She looked down at her hands. "I should have expected it. You were never ant to stay here."

He leaned back, resting his arms on the chair. "That doesn’t an I’m disappearing."

Lilith scoffed lightly. "That’s what everyone says before they forget."

Ren smirked, reaching into his pocket. "Then maybe this will help you rember."

She blinked as grabbed hold of her hand and gently spread out her palm. With a smile, he set one of his imbued coins on it.

The tal shimred faintly in his sight, pulsing with the energy of his Bloodbinding.

"What is this?" She asked, picking it up carefully.

"A promise." Ren said. "This is one of my teleportation coins."

"Right now, I can’t use it to travel far. But one day, when I’m strong enough, I’ll pay you a visit. And when I do, we’ll catch up with each other."

"Until then, I guess we’ll just have to send each other letters."

Lilith turned the coin in her fingers, a forlorn expression on her face. "And if I don’t want to wait for you to get strong?"

Ren smirked. "Then you’d better get stronger first."

For a mont, she was silent. Then, slowly, a small, genuine smile broke through. It was brief, but it was real.

Lilith clenched her fist around the coin. "You’d better not break that promise."

"Wouldn’t dream of it." He said as he stood.

Lilith got up as well, brushing off her dress. "Then, co on. I’m not letting you leave without waving goodbye from the gates."

"Lucky ." Ren laughed as they made their way out of the library.

"And don’t forget to send a letter when you get ho." She said.

"Of course." He reassured her.

They walked together back to the main courtyard, where Ren’s entourage was already gathered.

Thorn was waiting by the horses, adjusting the saddle on his own mount while occasionally throwing Ren a knowing glance.

Lord Underwood stood at the estate’s entrance, a big smile on his face. Ren wasn’t sure whether feel creeped out or just uncomfortable. He settled with pasting a smile on his face.

As he approached, the lord gave him a nod of approval. "Young Ross."

"You have done much for my daughter." Lord Underwood said in a low voice, his smile still on his face. "I see now that this arrangent was not only beneficial to our houses but to her as well."

Ren bowed slightly. "Lilith is strong, my lord. She just needed soone to remind her of that."

Lord Underwood studied him for a mont before speaking again. "You have gained my respect, Lord Terence."

"And while you are still young, you have shown wisdom beyond your years. I will honor our agreent. Lilith’s future will be decided by her, not by obligation."

Ren inclined his head in gratitude. "Thank you. That ans more than you know."

The older man’s gaze softened just a fraction before he extended a hand. Ren took it firmly, sealing the understanding between them.

Lilith stood a short distance away, arms crossed and a pout on her face. "Are you going to leave already, or are you going to make this so grand farewell?"

Ren chuckled. "Would you rather I just disappear?"

She scoffed. "Just get on your horse before I change my mind and make you stay."

Ren smirked, then mounted his horse. Thorn followed suit, settling in beside him as the rest of the escort readied themselves.

As Ren took one last look at Lilith, she held up the coin he had given her, her fingers gripping it tightly. She didn’t say anything else, but she didn’t need to.

With a final nod to Lord Underwood, Ren spurred his horse forward, Thorn keeping pace beside him.

He watched as Lilith waved until she was out of sight.

They rode in silence for a few minutes before Thorn glanced over, his grin already forming. "You’re awfully quiet. Missing her already?"

Ren sighed. "Thorn, if you want to leave you in a ditch, just say so."

Thorn laughed. "Co on, you have to admit. She’s different from what you expected."

Ren smirked, shaking his head. "Nope. She’s exactly what I expected. A handful."

"And you like that." Thorn pointed out. "You know, she didn’t want you to leave."

Ren shrugged. "She’s just not used to having people stay."

"And you’re planning to change that?" Thorn asked.

Ren’s grip on the reins tightened slightly. "I keep my promises."

Thorn chuckled. "Well, just make sure that when you co back, you’re strong enough. I have a feeling she won’t make it easy for you."

Ren grinned. "I’m counting on it."

As they rode toward ho, Ren’s mind drifted to the coin now in Lilith’s possession.

A promise. A challenge. A future yet to be written.

And he intended to see it through.
