The day passed in a haze for Ren and before he knew it, it was the next day.

All his plans to train were gone. He’d of course gone to see Thorn and while his injuries were completely healed, he needed food and sleep to recuperate and gain his energy back.

Bloodbound healing wasn’t free. He still had to replenish what he’d lost.

The training ground had been taken care of by the Underwood servants and since the incident, he hadn’t seen Lord Underwood. Neither had he seen the rest of the Underwood family.

But that didn’t matter. At least for now. The only person that mattered was Lilith. And that was why he sought her out.

He made his way to her room and stopped outside her locked door. Standing guard outside was Elias, who had also been injured by the blast but not as much as Thorn. The man was already back at his duty.

He eyed Ren but did nothing as Ren knocked. Unfortunately, the only answer to his knocks was silence.

Ren waited, then knocked again, harder this ti. Still nothing.

"Lilith." He called out, keeping his tone calm. "I know you’re in there."

After a long pause, her voice finally ca, muffled through the wooden door. "Go away."

Ren exhaled. "Not happening."

"I don’t want to see anyone." She said, her voice filled with frustration and sothing more… fragile.

"Then I’ll have to apologize." Ren replied, leaning against the door. "Because I’m not leaving."

Lilith didn’t answer, but Ren didn’t move either. He stayed there, waiting, as the minutes stretched into an hour.

The corridor remained silent except for the occasional shuffle of distant footsteps. He could picture her on the other side, curled up on her bed, forcing herself to be alone, punishing herself.

He couldn’t allow this to continue.

While this was definitely a chance for him to finally get through to Lilith, his motives were not purely pragmatic.

Even if Lilith wasn’t a future Calamity and had been a normal girl, he would still do the sa. Why? Because she was human. It was as simple as that.

"You know, you can’t stay in there forever." He tried again, his voice softer this ti.

She said nothing.

"You didn’t lose control on purpose, Lilith. You’re not a danger just because of one mistake."

A bitter laugh ca from the other side. "You don’t understand, Ren. I am dangerous."

"And the worst part? Everyone knows it but . I thought I could handle it, but I was wrong."

Ren pressed his forehead against the wooden door. "So what? You’re just going to shut yourself away? Hide in here until everyone forgets you exist?"

He let the words hang for a mont.

"That’s not you, Lilith."

"You don’t know ." She muttered.

"I know enough." He countered. "You don’t scare , and you hate that. You want to react like everyone else, but I won’t."

Silence.

After that, he heard nothing else from Lilith.

And the day passed just like that. She remained locked in her room, unwilling to eat and everyone else was too scared to co close to the vicinity of her room.

The next day, Ren returned to et Elias at his post again.

He frowned, wondering if the Knight ever rested.

Turning away, he called out to Lilith but like yesterday, there was silence.

After an hour of silence, he glanced at Elias to make sure the Knight wasn’t watching before taking a coin from his pocket and sliding it under the door.

A mont later, he vanished and reappeared inside the room.

But Lilith wasn’t there.

Her bed was empty and the window was open, the cool morning breeze stirring the curtains.

Ren cursed under his breath before stepping onto the ledge and looking down. No sign of her.

He scanned the courtyard below, then the surrounding rooftops.

He’d have to find her before anything bad happened.

He grabbed his coin and blinked away to the one in his room. From there, his search began.

Fortunately, it didn’t take long for Thorn to point him in the right direction and for him to find her.

The estate’s library, while pristine, was rarely used, and Lilith was curled up against one of the large arched windows, her knees drawn to her chest, her fingers clasped tightly together.

She was staring at her hands.

Ren approached quietly, but she didn’t look up. He sat beside her, letting the silence fill the air between them.

"You found ." She murmured after a mont.

"Of course." Ren said. "You’re not that good at hiding."

She huffed softly, but there was no real amusent in it. "I shouldn’t be here. I shouldn’t be near anyone."

Ren studied her, watching the way her fingers trembled slightly. "Because you think you’re dangerous."

Lilith clenched her fists. "I am dangerous. You saw what happened. I almost—"

"You didn’t." Ren interrupted. "That’s what matters."

She finally turned her head, looking at him with those piercing crimson eyes. "And what if next ti I do? What if I hurt you, or Elias, or anyone else?"

Ren exhaled slowly. "I used to think the sa way."

Lilith blinked. "What?"

He leaned forward, resting his arms on his knees. "I have a Divine Gift, too, rember? I know what it’s like to feel like it controls you more than you control it."

"I used to think it would consu , make into soone who only cared about getting stronger. That if I’ll eventually beco soone who lived only to see the next level up. The next growth."

"And it scared ." Ren whispered, saying those thoughts aloud for the first ti. "It’s certainly interesting to see stories of heroes whose goal in life was getting stronger to defeat that one insurmountable challenge."

"But that kind of life…" He trailed off.

"I can’t imagine living without actually enjoying life. Without actually taking ti to smile. To laugh."

"What’s the purpose of being alive if at the end of it, the only worthwhile thing I did was beco strong."

"No joy, no sadness, no happiness, no friendship, no love, no nothing. Just strength."

Lilith was quiet, listening. Not arguing. Not shutting him out. Just listening.

"It doesn’t go away." Ren admitted. "That fear. That voice in the back of your head telling you that you’ll lose control."

"But it gets easier. You learn to manage it, to turn it into sothing you own instead of sothing that owns you."

Lilith lowered her gaze. "Do you think I’ll ever be free of it?"

Ren didn’t lie. "No." Then he smiled at her. "But you won’t have to face it alone."

Lilith inhaled shakily, as if absorbing his words. "You really believe that? That I won’t be alone?"

Ren t her gaze. "I do."

She let out a slow breath, pressing her forehead against her knees. "I hate that you make sense."

Ren chuckled softly. "Get used to it."

For the first ti, she didn’t look away.
