"Stay close," I whispered, my voice barely audible over the suffocating silence. My hand gripped the bow tightly, its familiar weight a fragile anchor. The taut string vibrated beneath my fingers, and an arrow, shimring faintly like a trapped wisp of light, materialized. Uvan moved silently beside , his sword sliding from its sheath with a faint hiss, the blade glowing an eerie, pulsating blue. Jess and Celia mirrored him, their weapons exuding faint glows.... Jess's red like smoldering embers and Celia's a pale, icy blue.

My breath hitched as I drew the bowstring back, scanning the undulating crimson mire for the slightest disturbance. Every muscle in my body tensed as the silence pressed in, thick and oppressive.

The mud below rippled faintly, but there was no sound. No bubbles. No movent. Nothing

"I think it's gone," Jess murmured, lowering her sword slightly, the tension in her voice betraying her forced calm.

The others followed as well, their weapons dipping.

"Agon, you can stand down too," Celia said, her voice firm yet soft, a strange contrast in this alien place.

I ignored her, my eyes fixed on the path ahead. Sothing didn't feel right.

"Uvan," I asked quietly, not taking my gaze off the crimson expanse. "Do these rune arrows glow brighter when fired?"

He nodded slightly. "If you stretch the string far enough, the rune amplifies the shot. Why...."

I didn't wait for him to finish. With a deep breath, I pulled the bowstring back as far as it would allow. The arrow flared brighter, illuminating the path ahead. Without hesitation, I loosed it, the arrow cutting through the heavy air in a streak of golden light.

And then we saw it.

The arrow illuminated them: a writhing mass of crimson worms, their slick, grotesque bodies glistening with viscous liquid. They coiled and twisted, rging together in a nightmarish fusion, forming a single massive entity.... a crimson death worm.

It roared.

The sound was deafening, a guttural shriek that echoed down the corridor like the wail of a thousand tornted souls. The air seed to vibrate with its rage.

"Run!" Uvan shouted, his voice slicing through the chaos.

We bolted, the squelching mud beneath us slowing our movents as if the crimson liquid itself sought to hold us back. The worm surged after us, its imnse body writhing and churning, its razor-sharp, tallic teeth gnashing against the ground.

I glanced back, my heart pounding in my ears. It was gaining. Its size was unfathomable, its body stretching to fill the path, a monstrous tide of flesh and hunger.

"Faster!" Uvan yelled, his voice ragged.

But we weren't fast enough.

Every step felt heavier, the mud clinging to our legs like chains. My lungs burned as I pushed myself harder, my mind racing for a way out.

Then, the worst happened.

A piercing chi echoed in my ears, and a notification appeared before my eyes, its cold, unfeeling text a stark contrast to the terror surrounding us.

[SYSTEM]

TEAM 2 HAS DIED

The words hit like a blow. My legs faltered for a mont, and my mind reeled. An entire team... gone. Just like that.

I stole a glance at Uvan, whose jaw tightened as he pushed forward without a word. Jess's face paled, her eyes wide with unspoken fear, and even Celia, who usually held herself with quiet strength, looked shaken.

The worm's roar tore through the air again, louder this ti, closer. Its presence was overwhelming, a living nightmare that defied comprehension.

"Keep moving!" Uvan barked, his voice snapping out of my spiraling thoughts.

I gritted my teeth and pushed on, my legs screaming in protest. The worm behind us grew larger, its form swelling with every passing second, its unrelenting pursuit a grim reminder of the stakes we faced.

The crimson liquid rippled violently beneath its massive body, waves crashing against the walls of the tunnel as its tallic teeth clashed with a sickening screech.

The system's ssage burned in my mind: TEAM 2 HAS DIED.

Their screams would've been deafened by that monstrous roar.

This wasn't survival. This was slaughter.

And we were next...
