Capítulo 980: Chapter 978: The Tide Has Turned
Allen Pamp blocked Richard’s gaze toward Annie, snorted coldly, and showed slight displeasure on his face. Then, he collected his expression, revealed a serious look, and looked deeply at Richard, asking, “So, you’re really not in the sa camp as those rebelling against our Pompo Family?”
“No.”
Allen Pamp’s expression was sowhat complex, and after thinking for a long ti, he slightly bowed and said, “Alright then, I apologize for my previous behavior; I acted impulsively. I now feel your sincerity, and perhaps we can really sit down and talk about a deal.”
“Alright,” Richard said, “May I ask, Mr. Allen Pamp, what is your attitude towards the previous deal?”
“Before answering that question, I’d like to ask you one thing,” Allen Pamp looked at Richard, “Do you want the ‘Void Book’ for the book itself or for its content?”
“The content.”
“I see,” Allen Pamp showed an understanding expression, “So you already have so basic understanding of this book, right?”
“I know it records so knowledge and spells about the void, things passed down from ancient wizard civilization — very rare and profound,” Richard said. “For certain reasons, I want to obtain its content to study it well and solve a particular problem.”
“I see.” Allen Pamp nodded, “Then do you know, I’ve been studying this book for a long ti, for decades actually.
This book has been in my family since a long ti ago. When I first read it, I only thought it was unfounded rambling, but later realized its preciousness and depth. Even to this day, I’ve just understood part of its knowledge, but it has benefited trendously. Not to ntion anything else, just the combat earlier, you should have seen my ability to dodge attacks.”
“Could it be…” Richard raised an eyebrow.
Allen Pamp nodded, “Yes, you’re right; that ability to dodge attacks is one application of the knowledge I’ve derived from studying the ‘Void Book’. The principle is sowhat complex, but to put it simply: I transferred the damage you inflicted on my body through void energy, thus dodging the attack.
Of course, this thod cos with a considerable cost, so every ti I use it, my complexion worsens a little. And ultimately, my body’s inability to control itself is due to this, a chronic issue caused by continuous use of this thod over many years.”
“Cough, cough…” After lightly coughing twice, Allen Pamp looked at Richard and said, “The content of the ‘Void Book’ is really profound. Through research, one can gain trendous benefits, but it might also co with a heavy price.
Fortunately, over the past decade, I’ve docunted my research results and insights into a handbook. If I give you the handbook, you’ll likely find your research on the ‘Void Book’ smoother and reduce the possibility of going astray.”
Richard listened to Allen Pamp without much excitent, clearly knowing there are no free lunches in the world. He looked at Allen Pamp cautiously and asked, “If I want to get the ‘Void Book’ and your handbook, what do I need to pay?”
“You don’t need to pay much, stranger,” Allen Pamp said. “Because I know clearly, if the conditions are too harsh, you’ll abandon the deal and choose another way to obtain the ‘Void Book’. Hence, I’m not prepared to ask for money, magic scrolls, or magic tools, just a favor.”
“What is it?” Richard asked, becoming more cautious. Sotis, the simpler the condition, the less easy it is.
Allen Pamp didn’t answer imdiately; instead, he turned around to look at Annie beside him, and only after a few seconds did he speak, his back to Richard, “I want you to take my great-granddaughter safely and unhard away from Saint Louis City, and deliver her to a place where the current battles affecting Saint Louis City can’t reach.”
“This…” Richard’s eyebrows moved slightly; to be honest, this condition was a bit unexpected for him, simply too easy. Really, Allen Pamp could do it himself in no ti at all.
But why doesn’t Allen Pamp do it himself? Could it be he has other plans, and would that be…
Upon hearing Allen Pamp’s words, Annie made a similar guess to Richard’s, quickly looking at Allen Pamp and asking, “Great-grandfather, if you ask him to take to a safe place, what are you planning to do?”
“Of course, I’m going to make those enemies of the Pompo Family pay the price they should,” Allen Pamp’s expression turned grim.
“Then I can stay,” Annie said urgently, “Though I may not be able to help much, I certainly won’t hold you back. I can fight alongside you, make those enemies of the Pompo Family pay, kill them all, and restore our family’s prestige in Saint Louis City!”
Allen Pamp listened and shook his head gently, saying to Annie, “Silly child, you think too much. All I want is to make the enemies pay, as for restoring the Pompo Family’s prestige, that’s already impossible.”
“Why?” Annie didn’t understand.
Allen Pamp’s gaze beca profound, looking at the empty air, saying, “According to what you said, it seems that the Pompo Family’s fate is sealed this ti. With most of the direct lineage mbers killed, the internal strength is bound to be hollow, and even if it sohow remains standing now, it will eventually fall and be completely destroyed. Given such a situation, it’s better to be decisive, abandon Saint Louis City, and leave behind you as hope. Perhaps, decades later, the Pompo Family can rebuild in other cities.”
Seeing Annie frowning about to refute, Allen Pamp continued, “You have to know that wizards are a scarce resource. Our family has developed for so many years, and there are only seven absolutely loyal wizards related by blood. These seven wizards serve as the core power, dominating dozens of wizards and wizard apprentices, in turn controlling hundreds of magic knights and thousands of soldiers, ultimately firmly controlling Saint Louis City.
Once this balance is broken, and the direct lineage wizards with blood ties are almost all killed off, aside from starting over, there is no other good way. Without direct lineage wizards, no matter how many wizards we control, it’s only surface control. Lacking the bond of close relationships, they could turn against us anyti, dominate us, make us puppets, and make us act according to their will.”
“But, great-grandfather, if we don’t control wizards and directly control magic knights?” Annie’s eyes sparkled as she proposed, “Wizards are indeed strong, and without enough direct lineage wizard power, it’s hard to suppress them. If even one person is unhappy, it could cause big trouble. But magic knights are different; individually, they’re not very strong, only bursting with powerful force when united.
Our family already masters the complete thod of manufacturing magic runes for magic knights. Once we’ve ended the current chaos in Saint Louis City and developed for a period, we’ll be able to regain a sufficient number of magic knights. By properly managing them and preventing high-ranking traitors like Gao Wen from appearing, we can still have formidable extraordinary power, potentially even stronger than before.”
