Chapter 849: Chapter 847: Cheka

After pondering for a while, Supervisor Canon halted his thoughts, looked at Supervisor Long i’er, and asked, “Supervisor Long i’er, when is the Inspector you ntioned arriving? Perhaps we should prepare ourselves accordingly. It’s not that we’re afraid of them, but making extra preparations is never a bad thing. Like you said, after all, the person in charge now is no longer ‘Fen Feng’, but ‘Gray Mist’ overseeing everything.”

“No need,” Long i’er, wearing a Golden Robe, shook his head, denying, “It’s unnecessary and too late. The Inspector will arrive within an hour.”

“Within an hour?” Canon was slightly surprised, “So soon?”

“Yes, this soon,” Long i’er said softly, “Even I was a bit surprised. After all, it’s the first ti I’ve received the relevant news so near the arrival ti. In a way, this might represent a certain attitude.”

“Uh…” Canon fell silent, although he had many things to say, he wisely kept them to himself.

At this mont, Long i’er spoke slowly, “We, in the Southern Free Federation, being far from headquarters, and considering the East Coast failure hasn’t been fully investigated yet, it seems the headquarters already has considerable opinions. In this case, making so significant adjustnts is unavoidable. But it doesn’t matter, after all, we serve the True God, devoid of selfishness, so so adjustnts might be good.”

“Yes, it might be good.” Finally, Long i’er reiterated emphatically.

Canon maintained an expressionless face, glanced at Long i’er, then quickly lowered his head without saying a word.

Half an hour later.

A gust of wind blew through the entrance of the Truth Society’s underground base near Delan, followed by the appearance of a figure.

The figure was dressed in a pure black trench coat, exuding an extraordinary aura, walking with quick steps, projecting a resolute and swift deanor. Most strikingly, a blue Ring adorned the index finger of his right hand.

This very Ring caused all mbers of the Truth Society within the underground base to be collectively surprised, watching the figure push open a door and enter a room with a mix of nervousness and vigilance.

As the man in the black trench coat entered the room, he imdiately saw Long i’er and Canon standing inside, looking at him as if they had been waiting for him for so ti.

The man in the black trench coat was slightly taken aback, but quickly regained his composure, first looking at Long i’er in the Golden Robe, lowering his head slightly, and sincerely greeting, “Hello, Supervisor Long i’er. I didn’t expect you to personally welco here. I thought you would be too busy.”

Long i’er chuckled lightly, looking at the man in the black trench coat, and with a tone neither warm nor cold, said, “I do have a lot of affairs to handle, just Pompeii City alone almost overwhelms . But since the Inspector is here, out of courtesy, I must et you.”

The man in the black trench coat smiled in agreent upon hearing this, then looked at Canon, and said, “You must be Canon Steward. Due to task-related reasons, I may have a lot of contact with you. I hope you can cooperate.”

“Of course,” Canon said, responding extrely briefly, not willing to say more than a word.

The man in the black trench coat didn’t mind, adjusted his expression, scanned Canon and Long i’er, and took a deep breath, “In that case, I won’t say much more. Supervisor Long i’er, and Canon Steward, you probably already know who I am. But please allow to introduce myself according to protocol.

I am Cheka, appointed by ‘Gray Mist’ as the Inspector, responsible for examining several branches in the Southern Free Federation.

The main content of the examination is to determine whether there are major hidden dangers in the region and whether the headquarters needs to provide more resources. After all, the East Coast failure was a lesson for all of us, and no one wants the sa situation to occur again in the Southern Free Federation.

Of course, if there are any problematic individuals in the branches during the process, I will also promptly point them out. At that ti, I hope you two won’t mind. After all, I’m just performing my duties.”

Long i’er listened, with no response, neither agreeing nor refusing, not giving much face.

However, Canon didn’t do the sa. Although so Stewards of his level do dare to confront an Inspector, those are individuals with strong backing, like Muse who was once sent to the East Coast and perished there.

For Canon, he is just an average Steward, striving to maintain an air of seriousness before his subordinates to uphold his authority. Therefore, he even dared not let others know about secretly raising a Demonized Rabbit.

Facing Cheka’s words, he answered, his tone lukewarm, “Inspector Cheka, rest assured, within the regulations, I will do my best to cooperate with your work. Of course, I hope you will act according to the regulations as well, so as not to put in a difficult position.”

“I will,” Cheka replied, looking at Canon and speaking, “If it’s possible, I would like to start my work now, is that okay, Canon Steward?”

“Yes, I’ll arrange an office for you imdiately,” Canon said, his tone still lukewarm.

“No need for that,” Cheka heard this, lightly waved his hand to refuse, and said, “I won’t stay long at this base of the branch, most of the ti afterward I will be exploring outside on-site. Staying here would at most be to retrieve so information. I wonder… if Canon Steward you don’t mind, can I share an office with you?”

“This…” Canon hesitated a bit, before he could express himself, Cheka had already walked over to Canon’s seat, sat down, and then picked up the docunts on the desk and asked, “Canon Steward, may I read these materials of yours? I’d like to understand the matters you’ve been handling recently, so I can quickly grasp the current status of the branch.”

Canon found no reason to refuse, nodded stiffly, and said, “Of course you can.” In his heart, however, his unease about Cheka’s arrival increased a bit.

Cheka seed to have not noticed this at all, read the docunts on the table earnestly, and soon picked one out to place beside him. Looking at it, it was precisely the docunt that had caught Canon’s attention earlier, titled “Report on Unusual Phenona Near the Shambala Town Mine”.

After picking out this docunt, Cheka’s hands didn’t stop, continuing to review the remaining docunts, and after a while, selecting two more docunts to place beside him.

The titles of the docunts were: “Exploration of Suspected Ancient Relics in Kado Cave” and “Investigation into the Surge of Death Incidents in Besti City Over the Past Three Months”.

Canon watched Cheka, his eyes turning slightly, his expression sowhat complex. Initially, he had assud Cheka was deliberately ‘finding faults’, but now it seed, “Cheka” might genuinely want to do so real work.

Of course, there’s also a possibility that— Cheka might just be putting up a front on the surface, while having another agenda in the background.

It’s really about watching and seeing over ti, maintaining a certain sensitivity until a final verdict is reached.

Canon continued to look at Cheka.
