Chapter 622: Chapter 620: The Last Survivor
“Gurgle gurgle!”
A string of tiny bubbles surfaced on the lake as Richard erged from the water.
The lake was now very calm; so ti had passed since the carbon dioxide had erupted, and the concentration of carbon dioxide in the center area had started to decrease continually.
But, out of safety considerations, Richard still had an oxygen tank on his back and wore a bird-beak-shaped oxygen mask, keeping his respiratory system completely isolated from the outside world.
“Huff huff huff…”
His breathing echoed continuously inside the mask as Richard stepped onto the shore, scanning the surroundings through the crystal lenses—although he had already seen it using the Eye of Gaze at the bottom of the lake, now it looked even more real with his own eyes.
He saw that the shore was littered with motionless Black Robed Wizards, lying haphazardly with no sign of breath.
“Dead.”
“Dead.”
“Dead.”
“This one’s dead too.”
Richard walked toward each body, verifying their status. While doing so, he casually took anything valuable from them. Items like Short Wands that enhanced magic power, Gemstone Rings that improved spell accuracy, Magic Rune Necklaces containing life-saving Defensive Magic, potions that temporarily boosted bodily vigor, and, of course, Iron Rings that stored countless things.
One body after another, yet another body.
Richard had been busy for a good while but hadn’t even finished collecting half of the loot when he suddenly realized that killing too swiftly made gathering the spoils difficult.
This must be punishnt, right? Yes, it certainly was punishnt.
“Swish!”
Expertly removing a Space Iron Ring from another corpse’s finger, Richard looked around; there were still many bodies lying next to him.
Taking a deep breath and stretching a bit, Richard stepped forward, planning to speed up the looting. But he had hardly taken a few steps when he suddenly stopped, his eyelids twitching, his attention caught by a strange mass of flesh.
Hmm, a flesh mass, a huge mass of flesh.
He saw it amidst the rubble on the shore—a nearly two-ter-tall mass of flesh piled on the ground like a small aty hill.
What was this?
Full of curiosity and about to investigate the origin of the flesh mass, Richard sharply noticed the flesh shaking slightly, showing signs of movent.
With a “ripping” sound, two thick arms suddenly extended from the mass, followed by two legs, and finally, a head erged.
With a “pop,” the whole mass abruptly stood up, nearly two and a half ters tall. It was actually a person. Recognizing his appearance with so difficulty, Richard realized he was probably the leader of the many Wizards who had ambushed him earlier. From the Wizards’ conversations, it seed his na was… Tu Ke.
Hmm, Tu Ke!
“Huff, huff, huff…”
After standing up, Tu Ke imdiately began to breathe rapidly, like a person on the verge of suffocation who suddenly inhaled fresh air.
With every breath, Tu Ke’s entire body expanded again, his previously sagging fra quickly filled out with explosive muscles that were daunting to behold.
After a long while, his breathing steadied, and Tu Ke turned his head to look at Richard. Although Richard’s face was obscured by a bizarre mask, Tu Ke still managed to identify him by his build.
“Boy!” Tu Ke roared, his eyes slightly reddening as he demanded, “Boy, what kind of trick did you use to kill so many of my n?!”
Richard looked at Tu Ke for a while, then thoughtfully replied, “Lake Flipping, carbon dioxide poisoning, and suffocation.”
“Hmm?” Tu Ke was startled, “What do you an?”
“What do I an? Just the literal aning!” Richard said, “Alright, I’ve answered your question, now you answer one of mine in return: Why is it that you are the only one to have survived when so many of your n died?”
Gazing at Tu Ke, Richard continued to speculate aloud, “Could it be because of your current special state? Did you use a special structural spell to alter your body’s composition, which allowed you to survive in a pure carbon dioxide environnt by hibernating? You seem a bit like an extremophile that could survive even in outer space.”
“Kid, I have no idea what you’re talking about!” Tu Ke snapped coldly, “But you’ve ssed up the big picture, killed so many of my n, and I absolutely won’t let you off! Right now, I have cast the most powerful spell, I can fight with you for three days and three nights without exhausting, and I will definitely kill you!”
Upon hearing Tu Ke’s words, Richard was suddenly reminded of sothing he had read a long ti ago in the “Monroe Chapter” of the Wizard Book, which described a strange spell. The spell required the wizard to enter into a bond with a corpse – drawing strength from the corpse, thus gaining terrifying offensive, defensive, and regenerative powers and turning into a humanoid fighting machine that could fight continuously without rest for three days and three nights.
Richard’s eyebrows lifted as he looked at Tu Ke and said aloud, “Don’t tell , the spell you’ve cast is ‘Corpse Attachnt’?”
“What ‘Corpse Attachnt’?!” Tu Ke clearly had heard of the spell and angrily retorted, “Do not underestimate ; how could I use such a lowly, vile, disgusting spell? My spell is called ‘Body of War God’! It’s a spell I was able to cast only at great cost, and it’s nowhere near comparable to sothing like ‘Corpse Attachnt’!”
“And now that I’ve successfully cast it and survived your insidious sche, it’s ti for you to die!” With those words, Tu Ke suddenly launched an attack with his hands emitting a bursting air sound, pulling trails of afterimages as he approached with formidable montum.
Richard, with his focus sharpened, did not hesitate to swiftly activate the Magic Rune Ring on his finger, releasing “Wind Force.” Then he cast the “Wind Lord” spell to greatly enhance the power of “Wind Force,” as a tentative attack against Tu Ke.
As soon as the fists made contact, a massive force erupted, and Richard was almost instantly sent flying backward without any chance of resisting.
In mid-air, Richard quickly adjusted his body to land lightly on the ground, aided by the “Wind Light Spirit” spell.
Tu Ke, relentless in his reasoning, did not give Richard a chance to react and quickly closed the distance to deliver a second punch.
Richard imdiately manipulated the non-Newtonian fluid under his clothes to flow out and shape into a fourth-phase shield to et Tu Ke’s fist.
The shield that had previously withstood the concentrated fire of many wizards without shattering was now promptly penetrated by Tu Ke’s punch.
Had Richard not dodged in ti, the fist would have hit him squarely.
Richard’s expression turned solemn; he felt it – the “Body of War God” spell might not have given Tu Ke any formidable energy attack thods, but it had transford his body into sothing beyond imagination, an existence impossible to resist by ordinary people, and even with his many spells, Richard could not match up.
In such a case…
The next mont, as Tu Ke closed in for the third punch, Richard stomped the ground, retreating swiftly, and without hesitation, he pulled out the Magic Gun which had already cooled down.
He skillfully loaded the drum with Shellless Magic Bullets, aid at Tu Ke, and with a “click,” he pulled the trigger.
