Chapter 1010: Chapter 1008: City of Volcanoes

Three days later.

Noon, Pompeii.

Richard arrived here, standing at the foot of a volcano, slightly raising his head to try to take in the entire volcano.

This is Pompeii. He has been to this area in an out-of-body experience before, so it is not entirely unfamiliar. However, the visual experience of the out-of-body state and that of the physical body are sowhat different. Now, using his physical eyes for the first ti, he felt a different sensation. Moreover, he noticed that compared to what he saw in his out-of-body experience, Pompeii had undergone significant changes, especially the mountainside and the top of the mountain before him. He wasn’t sure what exactly had happened.

Long i’er stood next to Richard, wearing a golden robe similar to before. She glanced at Richard, who was looking up at the volcano, and introduced with a smile, “Wizard Richard, you’re now standing at the place I previously ntioned I would bring you to: Pompeii.

The mountain you’re looking at is called the Vesuvius Dake volcano, an extrely ancient but still active volcano. You don’t need to worry about it erupting because it has been tad by us.”

“Tad?” Richard looked at Long i’er, puzzled by her words.

“It’s like an animal that has been tad by us and now serves our organization wholeheartedly,” Long i’er said, not explaining in detail but continuing, “Many buildings established on its body form the central area of Pompeii, which you can call Pompeii Town. Speaking too much now is aningless, let take you for a closer look and experience it firsthand.”

“This way,” Long i’er said, gesturing to a mountainside path with steps.

“Alright,” Richard nodded, following Long i’er, climbing up the steps.

As they advanced, a faint sulfur sll wafted over, the living breath of the volcano.

The sulfur sll gradually intensified. Following Long i’er up another set of steps, Richard felt his view suddenly expand. He scanned his surroundings and realized they had reached the mountainside, where a large flat area with many buildings stood, taking the shape of a small town. The town was bustling with people.

The town’s buildings were sowhat unconventional, looking like stone buildings made of stones. So were two stories high, so three, and a few even reached four or five stories.

Each building was square-shaped, without columns or decorations, just vertical and smooth walls. A low entrance opened in one of the walls, unobtrusive, and apart from this, there were almost no windows.

From a glance, these buildings looked like a box with a hole placed on the ground.

A few glances later, Richard suddenly felt slightly eerie because he realized all these buildings were uniformly gray-black. Rather than a box with a hole, they looked more like coffin-like structures painted with anti-corrosion paint, emanating a somber, gloomy dead aura.

The appearance of these buildings, the na of Pompeii, the na of the Vesuvius Dake volcano… Combined, it really didn’t feel very auspicious… If mory serves, there was a famous Ancient Roman city “Pompeii” in Earth’s history, buried and destroyed by volcanic ash from a Vesuvius volcano eruption.

Of course, this Pompeii isn’t that Pompeii, and the Vesuvius volcano differs from the Vesuvius Dake volcano. The Truth Society mbers living here are definitely not Ancient Roman citizens. Even if a real volcanic eruption occurs, they have enough ans to resist or evade it. However, there’s certainly sothing inauspicious about it.

Richard thought as Long i’er spoke, asking, “What’s up, Wizard Richard, you seem very interested in these houses, you’ve been looking at them continuously.”

“Uh, it’s like this, Supervisor Long i’er. Compared to other houses I’ve seen, I find them sowhat unique. Despite varying heights, their design is too uniform,” Richard said, expressing only half of his thoughts and keeping the other half to himself.

Long i’er nodded and explained, “You’re not wrong, the houses here do look similar because they were uniformly planned. Their design is unique to ensure maximum efficiency and utilization by removing all unnecessary decorations.

The reason they’re black is simple: Originally, they were the stone color—gray-white. But due to volcanic activity, black volcanic ash occasionally falls and stains the surface of the stone, making it extrely hard to remove. Over ti, the entire structure turns black.

Honestly, they look quite ugly, but trust , they are far sturdier than any other houses in the world. Their sturdiness is enough to easily resist a First Circle spell attack, so even if seismic activity occurs due to volcanic activity, it won’t affect them.”

“That’s indeed sturdy,” Richard nodded in agreent, not dwelling further on the topic, and his gaze shifted to other places in the town.

He noticed scattered cylindrical tal tower structures around many buildings. Silvery-white in appearance, they were densely inscribed with magic runes, flickering with colored arcs, and displayed noticeable energy waves. Each stood over three ters high, upright and erect. They resembled neither landscapes nor buildings.

As for statue totems… If not for so fervent paternal reproduction belief the Truth Society has, it wouldn’t make sense at all.

They did have a slight resemblance to electrical poles on Earth, just shorter… Richard scratched his head, pointing at the tal tower and asked Long i’er, “Supervisor, what is that?”

“Well…” Long i’er responded earnestly, “That’s the most important thing in all of Pompeii, a node, which you can consider as a person’s organ.”

“A person’s organ? What exactly is it?”

“Simply put, they are points for energy transfer, able to transmit and aggregate energy, then release it outward to provide to those in need,” Long i’er said, starting towards the front.

After walking a certain distance, Long i’er pointed further up the mountainside, where half-ter wide silvery-white tal bands hung on the mountain. Likewise, their surfaces were inscribed with magic runes, flickering with colored arcs, displaying energy waves.

“Those are passages, akin to a body’s blood vessels. Specifically, they’re tubes for transmitting energy,” Long i’er continued, “They are responsible for transmitting energy to various nodes.”

“Alright, let’s continue upwards, and you’ll see the most important thing,” Long i’er said, heading towards the volcano crater.

Richard followed, and shortly after, they reached the crater, his eyes slightly widening in surprise.
