Chapter 1001: Chapter 999: Please Act Like a Human

Day Fifteen, Early Morning.

Eden, chanical Processing Sector, Research Room No.1.

Richard sat silently at the processing table, calculating all the preparations he had made during this period.

Improved Miniature Magic Tracking Missile, Light Magic, Void Magic, Destructive Gloves, Black Spirit King’s Mask…

After finishing the calculations, confirming everything was in order with no omissions, he let out a sigh of relief, got up, and walked out the door into Research Room No.3 next door.

In Research Room No.3, the Eternal Ancient Tree Species Ximu was fixed in a new transparent glass tank. After the last incident, it finally received the treatnt of having its own dedicated space. The energy supply system was repaired, and Ximu was focused on absorbing energy from the void, transmitting it to the energy controller, and then delivering it to other locations outside Research Room No.3 to exert its effects. Perhaps it was too focused, as Richard entered, Ximu paid no attention to him.

Richard walked closer to Ximu and knocked on its trunk, prompting it to reluctantly twist and reveal a human face, speaking: “What’s the matter?”

“Pause the energy absorption from the void,” Richard said. “You can consider the pause ti part of the contract term, it’s like giving you a vacation.”

“Oh?” The human face on Ximu’s trunk blinked skeptically, “Young man, when did you beco so kind-hearted? Or is sothing unusual happening?”

“It’s not really sothing unusual,” Richard explained, “just that I plan to move the space item you’re in. Didn’t you ntion that moving the location affects the energy absorption channel from the void? My research into void knowledge indeed confirms that, so let’s pause.”

“I see.” Ximu’s trunk twisted slightly, responding, “Alright, I’ll pause then.”

As it spoke, the colorful arcs jumping from its branches rapidly diminished in speed visible to the naked eye, disappearing entirely within seconds, as if they never existed.

“All done, it’s paused,” Ximu said.

Richard nodded and started walking toward the door.

As he reached the doorway, he paused, looked back at Ximu, and said, “Even if I don’t say it, your wisdom must have already figured that since I’m moving the space item, I won’t be able to keep an eye on you. In other words, you have the opportunity to cause trouble in Eden during the coming period.”

“Hey, young man, what do you an?” Ximu frowned, speaking with so frustration. “Are you suspecting I’ll make a move next? Haven’t I already proven my sincerity? I’ve been diligently fulfilling our contract, and I didn’t take advantage when your last shoddy machines had issues. It’ll be the sa this ti.”

“I hope so,” Richard responded calmly. “Of course, if you’re feeling mischievous, you certainly can try to play so tricks, but rember you’ll have to bear the consequences.”

With these words, Richard left Research Room No.3 without turning back.

Ximu watched Richard’s back, a twisted expression on its face, its gaze revealing complexity, seemingly pondering whether Richard’s words were true. After a while, it blew out a sharp breath, blinked, abandoned guessing, and its entire face vanished from the trunk.

Outside Research Room No.3.

Richard walked out, looked ahead, and found the shadow of soone moving — it was the Witch Demon Elder.

He saw the Witch Demon Elder standing in front of a skeletal figure over two ters high, continuously poking and pulling, occasionally breaking off a bone and casually throwing it to the ground. An Eight-Ard Skeleton would quickly hand him another bone, allowing the Witch Demon Elder to replace the previous one.

Watching the Witch Demon Elder’s actions, Richard was a bit surprised.

From what he knew, since returning from Delan, the Witch Demon Elder had beco increasingly lazy, living more and more like a retired elder. Usually, if not lying on a recliner asleep, he was doing other things to pass the ti — anything but work.

But now, not only was he working, but pulling an all-nighter, it was as if he had beco a different person.

These past fifteen days, Richard had been busy and hardly paid attention to the Witch Demon Elder, now curious as to what had happened to bring such a change.

“Tap tap tap…”

Richard stepped up, stood beside the Witch Demon Elder, and casually asked: “So late, why aren’t you resting, Mr. Ah Fu?”

“Click, snap!”

After replacing a forearm bone on the tall skeleton, the Witch Demon Elder turned his head to look.

His old face was full of wrinkles, like a wilting chrysanthemum. Frowning, with eyes tired and worried, he yawned and said, “You think I want to do this? It’s because of you.”

“? What about ?” Richard was puzzled. Due to the issues with Long i’er, he’d been busy preparing and hadn’t communicated with the Witch Demon Elder.

The Witch Demon Elder asked, “You’ve been busy lately, right?”

“Yes.”

“Not just busy, specifically very busy,” the Witch Demon Elder emphasized. “Though I don’t know what you’re busy with, I can tell you’re dealing with sothing tricky.”

“So…”

“So, I have to get busy too,” the Witch Demon Elder said. “I don’t know what you’re facing, but if you can’t handle it, I’ll have to face it. Better to prepare early, it’s what I’ve learned over the years.”

“I see…” Richard understood now: Although he hadn’t communicated with the Witch Demon Elder, the elder had sensed sothing — such insight cos with age.

“At any rate,” the Witch Demon Elder said, “though I’m old, I can still help a bit. Even if I can’t solve the key problem, at least the magic puppets I create can serve as cannon fodder, right? So, if you’re in trouble, tell , I’ll do my best to assist. After all, I prefer supporting from behind rather than directly fighting.”

“I rember you used to be good at direct combat, Mr. Ah Fu,” Richard said. “Back at the mine, you fought the enemy head-on.”

The Witch Demon Elder glared, saying irritably, “Yes, and I nearly got dismantled by so Inspector Chikafu. I’m getting old, you can’t always expect to do that every ti, right?”

Just be human! That’s the Witch Demon Elder’s implied aning.
