Chapter 380: 377, Prison Cage

In the room.

Josh’s breathing gradually beca steady as he looked at the pocket watch, not knowing why, but he began to feel drowsy.

A heavy lethargy slowly crept into his mind.

Josh discovered that the thod he sowhat despised, of using the watch to hypnotize, was actually real…

What made him even more uncomfortable was

that he now completely lost control over his body and consciousness, only able to follow Du Wei’s light voice, being guided to relax, then his eyelids grew heavier and heavier.

...

Snap…

Josh leaned back in his chair.

His eyes closed tightly, seemingly falling into sleep.

Seeing this scene,

Du Wei carelessly tossed the watch aside.

All those special exorcism techniques were just bluffing people.

Even though Freddy was tricked quite badly by it, using the watch to hypnotize was probably only good for putting people to sleep.

Clearing his throat,

Du Wei began to question Josh, “What was the most terrifying thing you encountered when you were eight?”

He didn’t start off by ntioning the Evil Spirit.

Because that might cause Josh to beco defensive.

The other party opened his mouth, speaking in a dull voice, “I ca across two people.”

“Strange people?”

Du Wei was sowhat puzzled, wasn’t it the Evil Spirit?

He frowned and asked, “What about these two people made you feel terrified?”

As his words fell,

Josh’s body trembled a little, then settled down.

“Those two people were like actors from a circus, they spoke very amusingly, one wearing a mask and the other quite handso with golden hair, and they said I was special, leading to a frightening place.”

Du Wei asked again, “What did you experience in that place?”

Josh murmured, “I… I can’t rember clearly, it seed to be a very narrow corridor, and there was a door, they led in, then told to push the door open.”

“Then, I saw a pair of eyes.”

“Just eyes?”

“Yes, then those two people vanished, and I was very scared. All I could see were those eyes, they seed like they wanted to tell sothing, then I found myself back ho.”

“What happened next? An Exorcist ca to your house?”

“No…”

“There were no Exorcists, the people who ca were the sa two who had asked to push the door.”

“They told that it was a failed experint, and then…when I woke up, my parents told the two people had left, everything was back to normal.”

After hearing Josh’s story, Du Wei fell into deep thought.

He encountered two people when he was eight.

One wore a mask, and the other had golden hair.

Moving the tiline back, it happened roughly thirty years ago.

Golden hair… A mask.

“Could it be Ryan Hal and a person from the Vanity Sect?”

Though golden hair is common in the West, what left the deepest impression on Du Wei was Ryan Hal.

The mask was more straightforward.

Thirty years ago, Ryan might not yet have acquired the two masks that held the Golden Brooch.

The ones fond of acting behind masks could only be those from the Vanity Sect.

Du Wei silently analyzed in his mind, “And there’s the so-called door… Could that door be the one in the basent of Esselgreen, the one I sealed?”

If that’s the case,

then the relationship between Ryan Hal and the Vanity Sect that year becos rather intriguing…

It seems they knew each other, and their relationship wasn’t bad.

And they even collaborated on experints regarding the door.

Though the information was substantial,

it didn’t an much to Du Wei.

So,

he walked over to Josh, who was slumped in his chair, sweating and with his eyes closed, and said softly, “Now, I will perform an exorcism on you. After I count to 3, you will snap out of hypnosis and start dreaming.”

“You will dream that the Evil Spirit has fixated on and has abandoned all other targets, determined to kill .”

“To the death.”

From the beginning, Du Wei hadn’t planned on eliminating the Evil Spirit.

He wanted to draw in a strong man.

But Du Wei hadn’t actually directly faced the Evil Spirit before; it all seed to originate from Josh.

This teacher, nearing forty years old, appeared to harbor secrets he himself didn’t know about.

Only in dreams did the Evil Spirit take action.

Moreover, synchronized closely with his dreams.

Du Wei’s target was the Evil Spirit, with the solution to the Evil Spirit coming second. If he could make the Evil Spirit focus on himself, it was akin to solving the troubles of Josh’s family.

To sacrifice oneself for others.

Having considered his options, Du Wei whispered softly, “1…2…3…”

At the count of three

Josh’s body suddenly rose up; he opened his mouth and let out a long breath.

Then he suddenly fell back, slumping into the chair and falling into a deep sleep.

In an instant.

The whole room beca dark.

Whoosh…

A gust of wind blew, extinguishing all the candles in the room.

Darkness was all that could be seen.

The only thing he could hear was his own breathing.

A strong sense of alertness and danger suddenly rose in Du Wei’s heart.

He discovered that Josh seed to have vanished…

Under Spirit Vision.

In the room, he was alone, and a presence carrying malice was quietly pervading the space.

“What’s going on?”

Du Wei whispered, imdiately taking out his mask and putting it on.

Shadow attachnt…

But the sense of crisis did not abate in the slightest.

Instead, it beca even more intense.

This encounter with the Evil Spirit felt different from the previous ones.

The unseen presence was far more terrifying than anything Du Wei had encountered before.

Without even making an appearance, it gave him an unequivocal feeling of doom.

This…

Was like a complete disaster…

Du Wei remained calm, his right hand pulling out the Flintlock Gun, while his left hand reached into his pocket and pressed down on the lighter.

Whoosh…

A bright red fla erged.

And it shot up unusually high.

This lighter hadn’t been used for a long ti, usually just for lighting cigarettes, but it had one feature.

It simply wouldn’t light unless there was no Evil Spirit nearby.

But once it did light up, it ant the Evil Spirit was close by, and the more terrifying the Evil Spirit, the stronger the fla would be.

The light from the lighter illuminated a small area around Du Wei.

But before he could get a clear view,

Josh’s face appeared right in front of Du Wei’s eyes.

His originally pale, haggard face now bore an abnormal flush, covered in cold sweat and unnaturally white.

His eyes were also completely black, as if possessed by an Evil Spirit, but the feeling it gave was sowhat different.

“Heh heh heh…”

Josh opened his mouth and sneered at Du Wei, “Huh…”

He lowered his head and blew out the lighter directly.

All of this happened unbelievably fast.

Without a mont’s hesitation, Du Wei retreated while his right hand pulled the trigger of the Flintlock Gun.

Boom…

Sparks flew in the darkness.

The bullet missed completely, hitting the wall and making a crisp sound.

“He’s not dead…”

As the light vanished, so did Josh.

Du Wei’s expression turned grim as he kept retreating, simultaneously putting the lighter back into his pocket and fumbling for the doorknob from mory.

The situation was beyond his control; staying in this room was not an option…

This person nad Josh couldn’t really be considered human; he was a vessel, a container for the Evil Spirit…

And the Evil Spirit within him was possibly a sort of being that ca from beyond the door.
