Chapter 302: 300, Conjunctivitis
“Hello, my friend has gone missing, have you seen my friend?”
At Rowling’s doorstep, the man wearing a mask, whose face and features were indistinct, sounded sowhat anxious.
He stood in the rain, holding a black umbrella, appearing very desolate.
And yet, this extinguished the rage in Rowling’s heart all at once.
It wasn’t that she harbored any goodwill, but that the Veda Sect had just killed an innocent vagrant, and now soone was showing up at her door with a missing person flier.
Rowling had joined the Veda Sect only in the past few days, and her ntal resilience had not yet beco completely insensitive.
Therefore, she was a bit panicked.
“I haven’t seen your friend, please ask soone else.”
Rowling’s tone was rather harsh, impatiently waving the man away.
But the man did not give up and pleaded, “Please take a good look at the missing person notice, my friend has been missing for a long ti, and I’ve been searching for them.”
Rowling rebuked, “I’ve already looked, your friend’s black and white photo is very blurry, you can’t even tell who it is, and I have no interest in helping you.”
As she spoke, she glanced at the missing person notice.
The photo printed on the paper was very blurry, with only a shadow discernible and a pair of dead eyes.
This made Rowling’s expression quite unpleasant. She thought of the vagrant who had been sacrificed on the second floor; that gaze seed sowhat similar, both gave off a very bad feeling.
The man seed to give up on asking, and with a hoarse voice said, “Sorry to bother you, I’ll leave now.”
Rowling watched him leave, looked around to make sure no one else was around, then shut the door firmly behind her.
…
In the rain.
The murky rainwater gathered on the ground, where it flowed into the drain, forming a mini whirlpool.
Tap…
Du Wei lit the missing person notice with his lighter and watched it burn until only a corner remained, then he casually tossed it into the water.
“Judging by the ti, the New York police should be on duty by now.”
His voice sounded odd. Before he had disguised himself like this, he had called the New York police to report an illegal gathering, and he vaguely ntioned his suspicion that the group might be cultists.
Given the current situation, the New York police would definitely take this seriously.
And what he needed to do next, was to wait…
For an incident to go from preparation to eruption, it needs ti.
But his report call would accelerate the ti of the outbreak.
…
anwhile, when Rowling returned to the second floor of the house.
All the cultists turned to look at her, and Fiona, the chief priestess, asked with a chilly tone, “Who was that outside?”
Rowling hurriedly replied, “It was a stranger; they had a missing friend and were going door-to-door with a missing person notice.”
Fiona’s expression imdiately turned uncertain upon hearing this.
She turned to glance at the body on the ground, which had undergone so strangeness; it was more emaciated than before, as if it had been dehydrated.
“We’ve just sacrificed a vagrant, and now soone cos knocking, looking for soone. Even though it’s a missing person notice, it feels very wrong.”
Fiona turned and stared at Rowling, “You didn’t say anything you shouldn’t have, did you?”
Rowling was startled and said tremulously, “Your Holiness, I didn’t say anything. I just sent him away.”
As she spoke, the other cultists quietly surrounded her.
In their gazes, a mix of scrutiny and wariness.
Rowling’s complexion changed, and she imdiately regretted joining the Veda Sect; she was all too aware of how terrifying this cult organization was.
Once they were displeased with her, it was very possible that she herself would be killed and sacrificed to the Vedas.
So she hurriedly explained, “Please believe , I really didn’t say anything, and that vagrant was soone I lured in; I couldn’t possibly betray the Veda Sect.”
Fiona looked at her intently and said, “You don’t need to be afraid, the believers of the Veda Sect are reliable, and I haven’t suspected you. It’s just that it’s a critical ti now, and you should know that.”
“Thank you for your trust.”
Rowling breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that she was safe.
At that mont, Fiona’s expression softened, and her tone beca gentle, “Praise Veda, you are a devoted believer, and the will of Veda is your will. We are all one whole.”
She thought she should show so kindness to this newly joined believer of the Veda Sect.
Thus, Fiona added with concern, “Your eyes are a bit red; did I scare you?”
Rowling wanted to nod, then quickly shook her head and said, “It’s probably because I haven’t been resting well lately.”
No woman would be indifferent to her appearance and the impression she makes, even if her looks might not be outstanding.
Rowling was no exception, so she thought of going to the restroom to look at herself in the mirror.
But she hadn’t gotten the chance.
One of the cultists in the room suddenly said with a somber tone, “Quickly look outside the window, the police are coming.”
Fiona’s face imdiately darkened, she pulled the person who spoke aside and moved to the window to look out.
Through the window.
She saw four police cars parked at the entrance of the neighborhood, and many uniford officers ard with guns were descending from them.
“Damn it! Rowling, are you sure that man was just looking for soone?”
Fiona turned around, her eyes blazing with anger, and slapped Rowling across the face.
Rowling staggered backward, covering her face and said, “Bishop… Bishop, that person was really just looking for soone.”
Fiona’s anger turned into a mocking laugh, “How can it be such a coincidence? He must be with the police. Don’t let see him, otherwise, I’ll definitely flay him piece by piece!”
“Follow , we need to leave here imdiately and notify the others. We’ve been exposed.”
Fiona was frantic; they had co to New York specifically to kill a psychologist nad Du Wei, who, it was said, had beco the church’s Deputy Chief Judge.
But before they had even started acting, the people she led were already exposed.
This would greatly impact her own position.
Fiona quickly left, her chilly gaze sweeping over Rowling before she said to the others, “Leave her behind…”
Rowling’s face turned pale, and she began to plead in horror, “No… You can’t do this… wuwu…”
Before she could finish her sentence, a cultist covered her mouth and nose with a handkerchief.
Rowling felt an involuntary inhalation of strangeness in her mouth and nose, and her head instantly beca dizzy and heavy; her limbs were too weak to support her, and she collapsed to the ground.
She watched with eyes wide open as the cultists left without a backward glance, her eyes filled with resentnt.
The vagrant who had died in the room had been lured there by her, and the police would definitely not let her off once they arrived.
According to the criminal law, she was looking at a minimum of twenty years in prison.
Rowling, with her muscles limp and her face contorted, spat out saliva as she muttered indistinctly, “You all wait… I will make you pay.”
But the next second, she heard a strange sound.
Thump…
In the room, the hand of the corpse of the vagrant suddenly lifted and heavily struck the ground.
Then, it raised its head, its blood-red, vengeful eyes focusing on Rowling, who was about to lose consciousness…
