Chapter 278: 277. Stay one night at Du Wei’s ho?

“Dr. Du Wei, I don’t know how to convey my thoughts to you.”

“When I asked Reagan what was wrong, she said nothing and silently returned to her room to sleep.”

“I didn’t dare tell her mother about it because it was really too scary, and her mother has a weak heart; I didn’t want to upset her…”

On the second floor.

Bernard’s voice cracked with sorrow as he reached this point. He rubbed his face with both hands and took a deep breath.

Du Wei frowned and looked back at the mother and daughter on the first floor.

His voice calm, he asked, “Have you discovered anything else?”

Bernard appeared bewildered as he said, “Ever since that day, I’ve been feeling very uneasy, so I stayed up all through the following night without sleeping.”

“I rember it was after midnight, though I can’t recall the exact ti.”

“I was already a bit sleepy, but suddenly, the bedroom door opened.”

“At that mont, my body froze, as if doused with a bucket of cold water, and I was completely awake.”

“But I didn’t dare make any other movents, I just lay in bed pretending to sleep.”

“I heard light footsteps getting closer.”

“Then, when the footsteps reached the head of the bed, they suddenly stopped.”

Bernard looked incredibly distressed, unable to hide the terror in his eyes.

He spoke with difficulty, “I knew it was my daughter Reagan, but I didn’t dare to turn around. I could even feel her gaze staring at constantly.”

“In the end, I heard a voice near my ear. It was my daughter’s.”

“She said—’I know you’re pretending to be asleep.’

Tap…

Du Wei tapped the wooden armrest at the exact mont Bernard finished his last sentence, and downstairs, the little girl Reagan sitting on the couch suddenly turned her head to look over.

She gave Du Wei and Bernard a sweet smile.

She looked innocent and pure.

Du Wei returned the smile, but his eyes were still calm.

He was not fond of children.

At this point, Bernard turned to Du Wei and said, “Dr. Du Wei, I actually suspected before that Reagan might have encountered sothing unclean, like an Evil Spirit or sothing.”

Mmm…

In fact, Bernard had indeed sought the help of a priest, but the news he got was not so ideal.

After giving it so thought, he couldn’t help but complain to Du Wei, “You know, our family doesn’t live in New York. I’ve asked for help from the local priest, but he told that I must produce evidence proving it’s an Evil Spirit incident.”

“And even if I produce the evidence, I still have to wait for the church to spare soone.”

“It’s just… It makes feel like I’m going crazy, but right now, I really feel helpless.”

“Honestly, Dr. Du Wei, I feel like I’m failing both as a husband and as a father.”

Bernard was under a lot of stress.

Looking at his expression, Du Wei’s tone turned strange as he asked, “Do you an to say you believe in the existence of Evil Spirits?”

Bernard looked dejected, “What’s there to believe or not believe?”

Du Wei nodded, “I ntioned earlier that I no longer work as a psychologist.”

Bernard chuckled bitterly, “You’re saying that our consultation is over, right? Don’t worry, I’ll pay the consultation fee. But thank you for listening to for so long; honestly, I’m very grateful.”

Du Wei shook his head, “The consultation is indeed over, but what I ant to say is that I am now an Exorcist, and I will take care of your daughter’s situation, although you will need to pay a fee.”

With that, he produced his Exorcist accreditation.

Bernard was stunned.

He couldn’t believe what he was hearing, “An Exorcist? Just a month ago, you were still a private psychologist, and you don’t seem to be a Cultist either—are you sure you’re not deceiving ?”

Du Wei spoke indifferently, “Why would I deceive you? That would be pointless, Mr. Bernard. I only do the things I ought to do.”

Bernard was at a loss, “So what I… I… what should I do, no, what are you going to do?”

Du Wei narrowed his eyes, his voice steady as he said, “I haven’t found anything wrong with your daughter, but based on the information you provided, there does seem to be sothing off.”

“So stay at my place tonight, and by evening, we’ll know everything.”

The reason he planned to take over this matter.

Was not only to compensate for the previous misdiagnosis but also for professional aspirations.

Frankly, he now belonged to the church and was the Deputy Chief Judge.

He had to achieve results, otherwise how would he get promoted?

Moreover, his Black Umbrella was completely ruined, and having lost a life-saving item, he couldn’t just expect the church to give him another useful one by simply asking.

So, after speaking with Father Tony on the phone, Du Wei did as he said, settling Bernard and his family in the clinic.

The clinic he rented was a two-and-a-half-story structure with an attic on the top half.

Besides his own bedroom, there were separate rooms available for people to live in.

But since it opened, his ho had never housed strangers.

For the Bernard family, it must be a very unique experience.

After nightfall.

The clinic was eerily silent.

Bernard lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

Helpless, he could only ponder the instructions Du Wei had given him earlier.

Do not go out after dark, no matter what happens.

If you hear sothing, pretend you didn’t.

“Hopefully, all of this will end soon.”

Bernard sighed silently in his heart. Apart from trusting Du Wei, he had no other option.

On the other side.

The first floor.

Du Wei sat on the sofa, lit a cigarette for himself, and organized the items he had on him.

A mask, lighter, Joker Card, Holy Nail, Dagger.

And a Coin.

These were all his current possessions for dealing with the Evil Spirit.

There were fewer items than before, but they were more refined, and there were fewer risks.

Quietly.

Du Wei placed each item in the inner layer of his clothing, glancing at the Antique Clock on the wall and the seemingly ordinary Annabelle, then turning his head to the corner.

Hmm…

The shadow was missing.

It was practically useless now; it would take so ti to co out again.

Oddly, Du Wei spoke with a strange tone, “I actually feel a bit uncomfortable.”

The shadow was temporarily offline, and he really was not used to it.

Du Wei couldn’t help shaking his head; truth be told, he kind of missed the shadow.

Ti ticked by slowly.

Everyone in the clinic was restless, struggling to sleep.

Except for… Bernard’s daughter, Reagan.

In a small room in the corner of the second floor, the little girl Reagan lay sound asleep on her bed.

Ti continued to pass, bit by bit.

Suddenly, she opened her eyes.

And on the first floor, the hands of the Antique Clock just pointed to midnight.

A cold presence slowly perated the clinic.

Du Wei stood up expressionlessly, already transitioning into the state of Evil Spirit Transformation.
