At the village head, this household is a typical farmhouse with four rooms.

At the courtyard gate, two ducks and four or five chickens were wandering.

The rooster saw strangers approaching and clucked noisily.

The ducks, frightened, waddled into the small grove beside the house.

The chickens, however, were not afraid of strangers and leisurely pecked for seeds near the house, occasionally scratching the soil with their claws.

Uncle Gui stopped the mule cart and went over to knock on the courtyard door.

The door quickly opened, and an old man ca out. Seeing Chai Eying alight from the mule cart, he exclaid, "It’s Miss Chai? What brings Miss Chai here?"

He stepped aside and welcod Chai Eying inside.

"Uncle Tian, is Brother Da Wang ho? I want to ask him sothing," Chai Eying said with a smile.

This was the old servant of the Chai Family, and the younger generation of the Chai Family addressed the old servants according to generation.

"Oh dear, he’s gone to the fields to check on the crops. What does Miss Chai want with him?" Old Man Tian ushered Miss Chai into the house.

"Didn’t he print books with soone a couple of years ago? Those old tools should still be there, right? My family would like to borrow them," Chai Eying inquired.

The old servant’s son had once run a book society with soone, specializing in printing scriptures for monks and Daoists, but how much business could the temples offer?

Since he couldn’t secure more work, the printing business closed, and he returned to farming.

Old Man Tian chuckled, "They’re still here. Miss Chai, please have a seat inside. I’ll go to the fields and call him back."

Chai Eying nodded, "Alright."

Old Man Tian poured so cool tea for Chai Eying and, wearing a sunshade hat, went to the fields to find his son.

Just after he left, a carriage stopped at the gate of the small courtyard, and Luo Zikun stepped out.

Uncle Gui recognized him, frowned, and reluctantly called out, "What brings the second son-in-law here?"

So it was the second son-in-law Luo Zikun’s carriage that bumped into his mule cart earlier?

Uncle Gui was a servant of the first house and always disliked the people from the second house.

Moreover, Luo Zikun was the one who abandoned Chai Eying.

Uncle Gui looked at Luo Zikun with a sour expression.

Luo Zikun flicked his sleeves, pulled a folded white paper fan from the leather belt at his waist, shook it with assud elegance, and smiled, "So it’s Uncle Gui. Where is your Miss Chai?"

"Miss Chai is married now and is the young mistress of the Li Family," Uncle Gui replied curtly.

Luo Zikun sneered, "Uncle Gui’s manners aren’t what they used to be. Is it because Brother Chai didn’t teach you well or because of the Li Family’s influence? I guess it makes sense, what manners would farming families understand? You’re tainted by association."

Uncle Gui beca angry, "What do you an by that, second son-in-law? Say what you want about , but why bring up the third son-in-law?"

"No particular reason, just talking," Luo Zikun chuckled, scanning the surroundings, "Where’s E Ying? Why don’t I see her?"

Luo Zikun dared to use Miss Chai’s maiden na? How dare he?

Uncle Gui’s face darkened further, "Second son-in-law, please watch your words. You’re not in a position to call Miss Chai by her na."

"I used to call her that for years, so why can’t I now?" Luo Zikun sneered, stepping toward the courtyard, "Isn’t this the house of the Chai Family’s old servant, Tian An? I’m going in to ask him sothing."

Uncle Gui ran forward to block Luo Zikun, "Second son-in-law, Old Tian is not ho; he’s gone out."

"He goes his way, I’ll stay my own. Can’t I go in and rest? Do you dare stop ?" Luo Zikun sneered, "Step aside!"

Uncle Gui resolutely refused because only Miss Chai was inside, and there are distinctions between n and won.

Moreover, Luo Zikun and Miss Chai had a past. If these two stayed together, it might invite gossip.

"I won’t allow it; Old Tian asked to guard the door, and I have to do my job," Uncle Gui stood firmly at the courtyard gate, determined not to let Luo Zikun in.

Luo Zikun was infuriated and kicked Uncle Gui hard.

He was tall and robust, while Uncle Gui was slender, and this kick carried full force.

The kick landed on Uncle Gui’s stomach.

Unable to withstand the force, Uncle Gui fell backward, his tailbone hitting the ground violently, causing him to cry out in pain.

Chai Eying, seated in the main house, had long heard the commotion outside.

She didn’t want to deal with Luo Zikun, so she stayed inside.

She thought, Uncle Gui would definitely help her drive Luo Zikun away.

Unexpectedly, she heard Uncle Gui’s scream of agony.

She realized that Luo Zikun had hit Uncle Gui, and Uncle Gui couldn’t stop him.

Chai Eying couldn’t sit still, she ran out of the house into the courtyard.

"Stop!" She glared at Luo Zikun, "Luo Zikun, how dare you hit soone?"

"It’s just a servant, what if I hit him?" Luo Zikun shook his sleeves with a sneer, "He dared to stop from entering the house? He’s defying !"

"This is the ho of my Chai Family’s old servant, Uncle Tian, what are you doing here?" Chai Eying supported Uncle Gui, angrily saying.

"I am the Chai Family’s son-in-law, am I not allowed to enter the house?" Luo Zikun’s eyes fixed on Chai Eying’s face, "Besides, I have sothing to talk to you about."

Chai Eying sneered, "I have nothing to say to you!"

"We grew up as childhood sweethearts, how could you have nothing to say to ?" Luo Zikun looked at her, "Co, let’s go inside, I have questions for you."

Chai Eying was furious, "Who was childhood sweethearts with you? Stop flattering yourself!"

"Ha, everyone in these ten miles knows that you, Chai Eying, once had feelings for , Luo Zikun, right? How is it you forgot so soon after getting married?" Luo Zikun looked at her face, chuckling lightly, "Is that Li Family farr so good? Making you forget so quickly?" He approached Chai Eying, lifting her chin with his fan, "This chin is a bit more charmingly round than before."

"Slap——" Chai Eying was furious, raising her hand and giving Luo Zikun a hard slap, "I never had feelings for you, get lost!"

"You dare hit ?" Luo Zikun was livid, reaching out to grab Chai Eying, "Chai Eying, do you think marrying a farr is finding a treasure? Dropped by , you rushed to marry a villager abandoned by his wife? And beco a stepmother? You’re foolish beyond asure!"

"My affairs are none of your business! Get lost!" Chai Eying struggled and tussled with him, "I’m grateful my second sister took you away, sparing from seeing your disgusting face every day! I want to burn incense for my parents, thanking their spirits in heaven for driving away this evil man like you!"

"You wretch!" Luo Zikun was enraged, raising his hand to strike Chai Eying.

"Miss Chai, run!" Uncle Gui endured his pain and suddenly lunged at Luo Zikun.

Luo Zikun was knocked to the side, allowing Chai Eying to escape.

"Wretched woman! Stop right there!" Luo Zikun pushed Uncle Gui aside and grabbed at Chai Eying again.

Chai Eying’s hair had been pulled loose, obscuring her vision.

Her steps slowed, and her collar was seized by Luo Zikun.

Luo Zikun sneered, "Chai Eying! Are you refusing a toast only to drink a forfeit, huh? Ha!" He tugged hard, pulling Chai Eying back, throwing her over his shoulder, and strode towards the house.

"Let go of ! Luo Zikun! If you dare lay a finger on , my husband will definitely skin you! Then draw out your tendons!" Chai Eying struggled fiercely.

"Alright, I’ll wait for him to skin !" Luo Zikun laughed loudly, "But for now, I’ll skin you first! You wretched woman!"

"Let go of Miss Chai, second brother-in-law, that’s your sister-in-law, you can’t be disrespectful!" Uncle Gui, rubbing his aching tailbone, limped after them.

Luo Zikun shouted to the door, "Ah Qing, stop Uncle Gui, the ddler!"

"Got it, young master!" The Luo Family’s coachman ran into the courtyard, blocking Uncle Gui.

Ah Qing was a young man, and Uncle Gui was no match for him.

In desperation, Uncle Gui almost knelt to them.

Chai Eying was furious, "Luo Zikun, let down!"

"Beg then?" Luo Zikun laughed heartily.

"Try touching !" Chai Eying kicked and hit Luo Zikun.

"And what if I dare?" Luo Zikun sneered.

"Bang——" Sothing suddenly struck Luo Zikun’s lower leg heavily, making him cry out in pain, forcing him to release Chai Eying and turn back to look.

It turned out a wooden stick had hit him.

Chai Eying was thrown to the ground by Luo Zikun, landing with a heavy thud, but she paid no mind to the pain, lying on the ground, looking towards the courtyard gate in a shock.

From the direction of the gate, Li Xingmao, carrying Guoguo, strode in, glaring vehently at Luo Zikun.

"Hus... husband." Chai Eying was trembling all over, feeling aggrieved and wanting to cry, "Why... why are you here?"

Luo Zikun, clutching his aching back, looked at Li Xingmao and sneered, "I wondered who it was, turns out it’s the Li Family farr? You’re brave to dare ambush ? I am friends with this village’s Pavilion Chief! And I’m also a student of the County Magistrate, as long as I say a few words to the Pavilion Chief..."

Li Xingmao gave him a cold glare, walked over to help Chai Eying, and spoke gently, "E Ying, are you okay?"

Seeing her collar askew and hair disheveled, an overwhelming fury rose in Li Xingmao’s eyes.
