The two sat on opposite sides of the Go board. The old lady assud Lin Banxia only knew the basics, so she let her take the first move on purpose.
Lin Banxia’s gaze flickered with a hint of cunning. She didn’t hesitate at all, picked up a piece, and placed it down gently.
The old lady was slightly taken aback when she saw her swift and adept move. "Banxia, have you studied Go before?"
"No, just played a few tis with my grandpa," Lin Banxia replied casually.
The old lady let out an "Oh."
In the blink of an eye, most of the board was already filled. When the old lady played Go with Luo i earlier, she had looked completely relaxed.
But now, her brows furrowed tighter and tighter, and her moves beca slower and slower.
Lin Banxia didn’t rush her, knowing the old lady was naturally slow in her movents. She just sat nearby, munching on so fruits and sipping tea as she waited.
"Banxia, I didn’t expect you to be so skilled. I rarely et a worthy opponent. Let think this through a bit more." The old lady, feeling she’d been contemplating too long, spoke up to alleviate her embarrassnt.
"No rush, Grandma. Take your ti!" Lin Banxia said generously.
The old lady found her remark quite pleasant to hear.
Over an hour later, Lin Banxia erged victorious, effortlessly.
The old lady’s expression froze. Impossible! How could she, as an old Go hand, lose to a girl who’d only played casually a few tis with her grandfather?
Her pride took a hit.
"Banxia, co play another round with !"
"Sure! I’ve got nothing else to do anyway," Lin Banxia secretly chuckled. Seeing the old lady look so unwilling to accept defeat yet rekindle her fighting spirit made her feel secretly thrilled. Heh, was she being bad?
Another hour passed, and Lin Banxia won again with ease!
"This can’t be real. How did I lose again?" The old lady was starting to question her existence.
Lin Banxia looked sheepish as she said, "Thank you, Grandma, for going easy on . Honestly, my win feels purely lucky."
"It’s a good thing for young people to be humble. Banxia, we’ll battle again another day. Let’s call it a day for now!" The old lady, though shaken in confidence, looked at Lin Banxia with newfound regard.
Lin Banxia felt a little smug as she followed her downstairs.
The grandmother and granddaughter sat outside the door to enjoy afternoon tea.
"What’s Luo i up to? Call her over," the old lady suddenly instructed the servant beside her.
The servant imdiately went to inform Luo i, who promptly ca over in formal attire. Seeing Lin Banxia occupying one of the chairs, her mood took a sharp dive.
She didn’t expect the old lady to pay so much attention to this woman all of a sudden. It was infuriating.
"Mom, did you call for ?" Luo i asked with a forced smile.
The old lady gestured to the chair beside her. "Sit down. Let’s have so tea and chat as a family."
Luo i sat down imdiately, her gaze sweeping over Lin Banxia with unconcealed irritation.
Lin Banxia pretended not to notice her and focused on peeling so nuts to eat.
The old lady cleared her throat lightly, then said, "Banxia, this is your aunt. Greet her!"
Lin Banxia said plainly, "Hello, Aunt!"
Luo i’s face turned sour instantly upon hearing the insincere greeting.
"Mom, she hasn’t formally joined the family yet. Isn’t calling ’Aunt’ a bit inappropriate?" Luo i imdiately found fault.
The old lady shot her a stern look. "Banxia is already my appointed granddaughter-in-law. She’s just missing the ceremony, so how can she not call you Aunt?"
Luo i’s face went pale as she hurried to explain, "I didn’t an anything by it. I’m just thinking, since she used to be Qing Lin’s girlfriend and is now Yan Ting’s wife, if word gets out, it might not sound very good."
At the ntion of this, the old lady’s expression imdiately darkened, and Lin Banxia’s whole body tensed up.
