Seeing the sorrowful expression on her mother’s face, Lin Banxia felt heartbroken as well. She couldn’t hold back her tears and said, "Mom, I’m sorry. I actually never knew I was an adopted child of the Lin Family. If it weren’t for the estrangent between my dad and this ti, he wouldn’t have told the truth."
"Were your previous parents good to you?" Cheng Roning asked with concern.
"My mom passed away very early on, and my dad was just passable, I guess. He’s now cut off our father-daughter relationship as well." Thinking about how her dad had used her for transactions ti and again, Lin Banxia no longer had the slightest shred of affection for him.
The debt of gratitude she owed, she considered repaid. She only hoped there would be no more ties between them in the future.
Seeing her sorrowful expression, Cheng Roning wisely refrained from poking further into her wounded heart.
Instead, guilt welled up deeply within her. Her daughter must have suffered grievances; otherwise, she wouldn’t show such sadness at the re ntion of her parents.
Mu Jiyang turned around and brought two cups of hot tea for them. "Banxia, big brother knows it hasn’t been easy for you living on your own. From now on, co back and live with us. You still have a younger sister. The whole family can be together, and you won’t feel lonely anymore."
When Lin Banxia heard him ntion "the whole family," a warmth seeped into her heart. She looked at her big brother with a smile and nodded, "Alright, I’d really like to move back and live with you all. Honestly, I’ve been on my own for so long that I sotis feel I’ve grown used to being alone. But seeing others cared for by their parents, I can’t help but feel envious deep down."
Cheng Roning could tell from her words that her daughter’s ntality was still relatively strong, but precisely because of that, her heartache for her grew even deeper.
"Mom owes you an apology for not being able to take good care of you and making you suffer," Cheng Roning felt that no matter what she said, it couldn’t make up for the love and care her daughter had missed out on.
Lin Banxia shook her head and smiled gently. "Mom, don’t say that. Finding you now already makes a lucky child!"
Mu Jiyang didn’t want their mother and sister to remain stuck in sadness, so he quickly chid in, "That’s right, Mom. Don’t cry anymore. Banxia is back now; you should be happy instead!"
"I’m really so happy, happier than anything else!" Cheng Roning said, her tears of joy flowing.
Mu Jiyang held his teacup, took a sip, and suddenly thought of sothing that made him anxiously worried. "Mom, Banxia is now your daughter and my sister. What about Tingting? How are we going to explain this to her?"
Lin Banxia held her teacup and sipped her tea; upon hearing this, her fingers tightened, and she worriedly looked at her mother and brother.
Cheng Roning let out a heavy sigh and gazed gently at Lin Banxia while asking, "Banxia, can you tell Mom what kind of relationship you have with Huo Yanting now?"
Lin Banxia looked at her mother and then at her big brother.
Both of them radiated deep care and concern for her.
She knew that the two people sitting beside her were trustworthy.
So, she decided to tell the truth without reservation. "Big Brother, Mom, to be honest with you, Huo Yanting and I are still together."
"What?" Mu Jiyang exclaid in astonishnt, and Cheng Roning was just as shocked.
"Banxia, you must be joking. Online rumors say Huo Yanting cruelly dumped you. How could you still be together? Don’t tell ... you’re unwilling to let go of such an exceptional man, are you?" Mu Jiyang imdiately speculated aloud.
Cheng Roning also looked at her with great concern and said, "Banxia, quickly tell Mom what’s going on here."
