"What’s wrong with being a waitress?" Tong Keke turned her small face to the side, her beautiful yet defiant eyes glistening with tears. "I can earn over a thousand yuan in just one night. Nowadays, it’s hard to find an easy job that pays well like this. Anyway, I enjoy it, so stop ddling in my business."
Staring at the girl who had suddenly beco so pragmatic and was putting money above everything else, Gu Qianxi was utterly stunned.
Had she completely forgotten all the refinent and gentleness he had spent so much effort cultivating in her?
She had turned into a worldly girl.
A sharp pain struck Gu Qianxi’s chest again. He bellowed, "So, just for a little bit of money, you ca here to work? Putting up with insults, being bossed around, having to lower yourself to apologize to others—are you proud of this?"
Tong Keke already felt humiliated; now, hearing his words, her tears fell uncontrollably.
However, she quickly wiped them away with the back of her hand, raised her head, and said stubbornly, "Isn’t this the life I’ve always been ant to live? I’m an orphan; I have to learn to be strong on my own."
"You have ..." Gu Qianxi blurted out, but he stopped halfway.
Tong Keke let out a faint laugh, realizing her tears wouldn’t stop coming no matter how she wiped them. She gave up and lowered her head, mocking herself. "I don’t have you; right now, I only have myself."
"Keke, can you stop being so stubborn? Please co back ho with —right now." Gu Qianxi extended his hand, trying to grab her arm.
Tong Keke dodged him and shook her head decisively. "I won’t go back. If I do, you’ll force to address you as ’Uncle,’ and then you’ll act as my guardian again. No, I don’t want that. I like this sense of freedom."
"Have I really restricted your freedom?" Gu Qianxi was stunned to the core. How could she claim that the life he had given her felt like a cage?
"You’ve restricted the freedom of my heart." Tong Keke tilted her head up, her misty, crystal-like eyes filled with tears as she looked at him. "Being with you, my heart isn’t free. My material life may be wealthy, but my heart has always been shackled. I don’t even have the courage to love you. I’m too scared to confess and can only act like so whiny woman, throwing tantrums and feeling jealous whenever you get close to another woman. I don’t like this version of myself."
Gu Qianxi felt like he was on the verge of emotional collapse from the nonsense she was saying.
Furrowing his brows tightly, he suddenly stood upright and stared at the distant lights.
For a mont, his mind was a chaotic ss.
"I have to go back to work, or I’ll get yelled at again." Tong Keke knew her uncle wouldn’t just let her go easily, but she had already decided to set herself free. No one could stop her.
"I forbid you to go!" Gu Qianxi turned around, extended his hand, and shoved her onto the sofa. "I won’t allow anyone to insult you!"
Tong Keke fell onto the sofa again, her head spinning. Hearing his words, she jested, "Why don’t you take then? From now on, I won’t let anyone else scold ; I’ll let only you scold , okay?"
Gu Qianxi’s enchanting eyes widened as he looked at the girl who was crying and smiling at the sa ti—her tender and delicate appearance was practically irresistible.
"You’re still so young, yet you wear clothes like this." Gu Qianxi abruptly changed the subject, his gaze fixated on her two pale legs exposed beneath the hem of her skirt.
She was wearing a high-waisted black short skirt paired with a white sheer blouse, tied with a bow in front—elegant and alluring.
The mont Gu Qianxi criticized her, Tong Keke couldn’t help but reach out to tug at the hem of her overly short skirt. Both hands pulled downward forcefully.
Yet, she had no idea that her pitiful look, seen through a man’s eyes, stirred waves of deep and uncontrollable emotions.
