Lin Banxia quickly ran out of Leng Group, got into her car, and leaned powerlessly against the seat after closing the door.
Her breathing beca erratic, yet her heartbeat slowed, heavy and suffocating.
She pulled out her phone and scrolled to a number.
Hesitating, then hesitating again...
Was Leng Weichen telling the truth? At tonight’s banquet, Yan Ting and Chu Tingting would play the lead roles?
Her heart ached sharply.
Lin Banxia didn’t understand why, upon hearing this news, her mind seed to explode.
She felt sad, realizing that she had loved him to the point of utter collapse.
Lin Banxia, didn’t you already promise yourself? That after being reborn, you’d abandon all emotions and reject love. What are you doing now?
She really wanted to slap herself awake, slap herself senseless, and go back to the mont she was reborn, to reaffirm her conviction.
But now, she had betrayed that version of herself and turned back into the resentful woman from her past life.
How did it co to this?
Lin Banxia, you’re a fool, foolish enough to let yourself get caught in the whirlpool of emotions once again.
In her past life, it was Huo Qinglin. In this life, it’s Yan Ting. Why couldn’t she escape this surna?
Was she supposed to die right now?
And then be reborn again, to truly live for herself?
"Hello..." Just as Lin Banxia was lost in her spiral of self-loathing, a low, deep voice ca from her phone.
Her wide, beautiful eyes snapped open as she looked at her phone. It had connected even though she thought she hadn’t pressed the call button.
"Banxia..." The man called her na, the sa way he always did—with indulgence and gentleness.
"I’m here!" Lin Banxia pressed the phone to her ear, trying her best to make herself sound unaffected.
"What’s wrong?" Sensing her distraction, Yan Ting’s voice was tinged with concern as he asked.
"Nothing, it’s just... I suddenly rembered that today is my mother’s death anniversary. Could you spend so ti with tonight?" In her mont of panic, Lin Banxia brought up her mother. She felt she had already been an unfilial daughter.
"Tonight?" As expected, there was a pause before he replied, his tone as gentle as ever, "Can I co by a bit later?"
"Why? I was hoping you could have dinner with ." Lin Banxia forced a silly smile.
"I have a business engagent tonight, so I might need to be a bit late."
"Oh, that’s fine then. Work is important. It doesn’t matter if it’s later."
"Alright, I’ll definitely co over!" Since she had personally asked him to co, Yan Ting couldn’t hide a trace of delight.
"I’m hanging up now!" Lin Banxia didn’t even bother to disguise her expression anymore. After ending the call, she stared blankly at the steering wheel.
The business engagent Yan Ting ntioned—was it really just a euphemism for attending the banquet with Chu Tingting?
Lin Banxia sat there like an idiot for a long ti.
Logic told her not to care about these things, that she should believe Yan Ting truly loved her.
But her emotions made her doubt whether his love for her was genuine—or maybe it was entirely fake.
Lin Banxia pushed open the car door, stepped out, and numbly walked back to Leng Weichen’s office.
Leng Weichen raised his head to look at her, his expression contemplative.
"Have you found a female companion for tonight yet?" Lin Banxia asked him.
Leng Weichen’s thin lips curved ever so slightly. "You’re interested now?"
Lin Banxia bit her lower lip and nodded. "Yes, I suddenly feel like I should see a grand occasion for once, broaden my horizons."
"Why the sudden change of heart? Be honest with ." Leng Weichen stared into her eyes. Those eyes—so stunning, like jewels, dazzling and bright.
Lin Banxia suddenly felt a bit embarrassed, her face flushing slightly. "I want to see how my ex-husband has fun with other won."
Upon hearing this, Leng Weichen chuckled softly. "Alright, that’s a good enough reason!"
