Chapter 466
Wrapping up his preparations took longer than he had expected: instead of a few more hours, it took a few more days. The reason for that was that, while he’d initially planned only to evolve the Crawler and the Wingclaw to Rank VIII, he ended up developing a few more new types of creatures.
He didn’t know what D’s weaknesses were, so he knew he would have to experint a lot in order to develop the kinds of creatures that would be effective against his counterpart. As a result, he got so absorbed in gathering genetic materials, testing combinations, and developing new lifeforms that he completely lost track of ti, barely noticing the hours and days passing by.
But before turning his attention to new creatures, he first focused on the Crawler and the Wingclaw. He knew he needed to find an ability capable of hurting D. Without knowing D’s resistances, there was no way to tell exactly what kind of ability would work. That ant he had to experint with different abilities to see which ones were effective and which ones weren’t.
Ideally, he needed to find abilities that dealt various types of elental damage. His own resistances were already pretty strong, and D’s were likely just as good.
——————————
Elental Resistances:
Fire: 35% ( 25% from Basic Elental Shielding)
Frost: 25% ( 25% from Basic Elental Shielding)
Shock: 25%
Explosive: 35% ( 25% from Amber)
Corrosive: 30%
Radiation: 25%
——————————
Other Resistances:
Pierce: 75%
Poison: 30% ( 25% from Basic Elental Shielding)
Mana Bleeding: 33%
Mind Control: 25%
Stun: 25%
Chaos: 25%
Ethereal: 25%

So, he had to assu that D’s resistances looked this way as well or were even better. His Pierce resistance had to be much higher, though, considering his Body was far above Jake’s.
For that reason, he’d been experinting with various genetic materials, trying to find new abilities for his creatures that could deal different types of elental damage. He himself could infuse his attacks with various elental effects by absorbing magical gemstones obtained in the Void Temple.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work that way for his creatures. He couldn’t make them absorb the magical gemstones or use them during the evolution cycles to enable them to inflict various types of elental damage. The only way to unlock attacks with elental effects was to find specific abilities by rging various genetic materials.
So, that was what he’d been doing during the last several days, and at one point, he unlocked an ability called Profuse Bleeding. This ability allowed his creatures to perform an incredibly powerful slash or stab with their natural weapons. A successful hit applied a debuff on the target, causing it to lose blood or mana at an accelerated rate, depending on the type of creature affected. It was definitely a great ability that could prove extrely effective against D.
Jake bestowed this ability on the Wingclaw during one of the evolution cycles. After that, he decided to test how well it worked. He took one wingclaw to Dead City and told it to attack him with full force. At first, he thought the wingclaw would refuse to obey, him being its master and all. But he was wrong. As it turned out, his minions would obey any command he issued, even one that told them to attack him.
Roughly every third attack broke through his defenses and inflicted the Profuse Bleeding debuff on him, causing mana to seep from his body. It was a pretty good result. Sure, D’s armor was better than his, but if several wingclaws attacked him at once, so of their attacks were bound to land severe mana-draining wounds on him.
Jake also evolved the Crawler and, during one of its evolution cycles, granted it Snare Goo, the sa ability his arachnoxes possessed. With that done, he was fairly satisfied with the results. If a group of crawlers and wingclaws went after D, Jake was confident his counterpart would struggle to deal with them. The crawlers would slow him down with Snare Goo, while the wingclaws would stack Profuse Bleeding. Jake was nearly certain that this combination would work well against D.
After finishing the developnt of the Crawler and the Wingclaw as far as currently possible, Jake spent a few days developing new types of creatures and searching for new abilities for them. He developed four new creatures in total during that ti. The working nas he gave them were the Wasp, the Monstrosity, the Scorpo, and the Blastfiend.
All of them, except for the Monstrosity, were relatively small compared to his other creatures, no larger than a dostic cat. The Monstrosity was much larger, standing about five feet tall. It looked like a huge, bloated, monstrous head. About ninety percent of its face was taken up by a huge maw filled with rows of jagged teeth. It also had nurous small eyes dotting the top of its face.
From the back of the creature extended several long tentacles, each ending in a bulbous extension that looked like a closed flower. The Monstrosity had two abilities: Levitation and Energy Spray. The first allowed the creature to levitate, so it didn’t need any limbs to move. The latter was a ranged combat ability. When used, the fleshy petals at the ends of the tentacles opened like blossoms and fired energy bolts.
This creature definitely looked bizarre and terrifying, but it was difficult to judge how effective it would be in battle. The Monstrosity depleted mana at an exceptional rate and moved rather slowly, so whether it would prove effective was hard to say. It cost 3 CP.
The Wasp looked like… well, an overgrown wasp. It had only one ability, Stillbarb, which allowed it to sting a target to either paralyze it or slow it down, depending on the target’s strength.
The Scorpo looked like a nightmarish scorpion. Its ability, Fangshot, allowed it to fire large, barb-like projectiles from the tip of its tail.
The Blastfiend, anwhile, looked like a crab with a massive bulbous growth on its back, one twice the size of its own body. It could move surprisingly fast, and when it closed in on an enemy, the sack on its body would explode, spraying acid in all directions. This ability was called Acid Blast.
Each of the three creatures, the Wasp, the Scorpo, and the Blastfiend, was pretty small and therefore cost only 1 SP. Due to their small size, a single wyrmcaller could deploy a dozen such creatures at once.
He hadn’t bothered evolving any of them beyond Rank V or giving them more than one or two abilities. The reason for that was that he wasn’t sure which of these creatures would be effective and which would not. Since none had been tested in battle yet, it was difficult to say which were worth fully developing and which would ultimately be abandoned.
Right after finishing the developnt of the Wyrmcaller, Jake made sure to visit the Void Temple to place a few curses on himself. While in Dead City, he could gain lots of Essence Points to spend at the temple, allowing him to acquire a bunch of magical gems along with new magical abilities.
Also, while he’d mostly been focused on developing various creatures during those days, he’d still managed to level up 15 more tis, from 176 to 191, earning 75 SP in total. He distributed them evenly across his attributes.
Body: 290 → 315
Mind: 328 →353
Magick: 325 → 350
His total Command Points had increased from 525 to 583, and between all the creatures he now had at his disposal, he still had a little less than 100 CP available, which wasn’t bad at all.
During these past several days, he’d also developed nine more wyrmcallers. He distributed them evenly throughout the city, assigning each to patrol its own designated area. This way, no matter what part of the city he was in, two or three wyrmcallers could converge on his location almost imdiately upon his ntal call.
Also, his Kaiju had been developing over the past several days and was now nearing the final stages of developnt. In just a few more hours, it would finally be ready to erge from the Behemoth Cavern. By now, the creature had grown so massive that it filled most of the cavern.
So Jake now had a few more hours to kill. He’d developed everything he’d been working on lately and now had so free ti. He could test his newly created creatures in combat and see how they perford. Or he could hunt more ravagespawn to level up a few more tis while his Kaiju completed its developnt. Or he could finally visit the Spartans and help them deal with one of the Titans.
In the end, he chose to go with the third option. But first, he needed to visit Catalina’s base and ask her people to create another electrolarynx for him. Without that device, communicating with humans was much harder. He wasn’t sure whether the Spartans had the ans to manufacture one, but even if they had, he didn’t feel like asking the Commander for help.
With his plan decided, he stepped through the Fleshport in the Apex Hollow and erged inside the ten-story lair in New Hope. He climbed up through the building until he reached the rooftop. It was broad daylight. Turning toward Catalina’s base, he set off.
