Malakai glanced around the room. From his earlier scan, he knew exactly what to expect when he entered.

There weren’t any Sanguine around, only n and won from the lower clans in Sylvastein. A glance was all he needed to figure out they were weak. Node formation at best.

Despite his subtlety, all eyes seed to focus on him. The n and won in white lab coats had stopped their torturous actions, staring at Malakai with expressions ranging from shock to intrigue.

There was a mont of utter silence, save for the intense, cold screams of the tortured. Neither side made any move until...

"You evil bastards!" Lina’s cry shattered the silence. She landed just beside Malakai, body tense, eyes blazing with fury.

She could hear the screams of her people, their cries. Many begged to be saved and others... to be put out of their misery. Tears stread from her eyes.

Viga was the next to enter, and from his clenched fists and glacial eyes, it was clear how he felt.

Malakai didn’t utter a word. Since he had entered, his eyes hadn’t left the door across the hall. That was where he had heard the scream, where Renlo was.

He blasted forward without warning. And as though that was the signal, Lina and the rest of the Gor’khai shot toward the n and won in lab coats.

The clashes of battle engulfed the hall, drowned only by the piercing screams of the tortured.

...

"Hmm."

Seraza narrowed her eyes at the sleeping figure in front of her. His once plump cheeks had sunken, and his face appeared weary, as if he had aged a decade. She couldn’t help but smirk.

"He lost weight!" She laughed, her mirth resounding across the room. She had been a bit surprised when the lead scientist told her that the procedure had been a resounding success. It made everything her mother said true.

But it doesn’t matter. Seraza felt an intense excitent bubbling within her. She couldn’t help it.

When the boy woke, they had plans to bring him under control by forcing him into a clausbane. He would be forced to do their bidding whether he liked it or not.

’How will he react?’ This was what made Seraza excited.

When Malakai found out that his closest person had been captured, experinted on, and forced to serve as nothing but a slave, how would he react?

It was a look Seraza wanted to see. The look of horror, of all hope being lost. She wanted to see Malakai broken.

’Then I’ll kill him,’ she thought with exhilaration. It would be the most relieving thing to ever happen in her life.

’Hmm?’

The sounds of battle suddenly reached her ears, and she tore her eyes away from the sleeping boy and faced the exit.

The room was small, but it wasn’t soundproof. She could tell the sounds were coming from just outside the door.

’What’s happening?’

Bam!

Seraza’s eyes constricted. The door had suddenly been hit by an explosive force.

’We’re under attack?’

She had sent Kosim earlier to check out the cause of the sudden alarm. But she would never have expected it to be this serious. Were they really under attack?

Bam!

The heavy force hit once more, bending the tal door at an unnatural angle.

’One more ti.’ Seraza knew one more strike and the chaos would spill into the room. She reached for her back and brought out a large bladeless hilt.

As she channeled her Vita into it, a large Vita blade humd to life. She settled into a stance, eyes narrowed.

Seeing as Malakai had destroyed her weapon with his higher ranked one, she’d pestered her mother for a grade three weapon like his.

She waited for the next heavy force, but it never ca. Instead, a compressed Vita blade pierced right through the door, tracing its outline.

The instant Seraza saw the curved blade, her eyes shot wide.

’No way... is he really the one...?’

She hoped, no, prayed, that her thoughts were right. There was only one person she knew with such curved blades.

A heavy force slamd against the door once more and it was sent hurtling into the room. It whizzed past Seraza, an intense gust whipping her hair before hitting the opposite wall.

The sound of footsteps rang out as a figure walked into the room. His gait was asured, calm, and his crimson eyes were so cold they could freeze fire.

Seraza felt his killing intent slam against her like a tsunami, but there was no fear in her gaze, only utter exhilaration.

’It’s him... it’s really him.’

She couldn’t believe her eyes! Here she was, thinking about how she couldn’t wait to et him again, only for him to co to her himself! She would never have imagined eting him so soon.

Seraza grinned. ’He beca stronger,’ she realized. She had no Vita field like Malakai, but she had been in so many battles that she could tell instantly.

"You’re here. I can’t believe you ca to ." Seraza rose from her stance. Sohow, she felt at ease knowing that it was Malakai.

"...."

Her smile only widened when she received no answer. Just a calm glance across the room.

"I borrowed your friend for a bit. What do you think of his new looks—"

The words froze in her throat as Malakai moved. It was a movent that bordered on teleportation.

One mont, he was in front of her, and in the next, he was standing by the boy lying unconscious on the table.

Seraza narrowed her eyes. ’How strong is he?’ she wondered, head snapping toward Malakai.

He gazed down at the sleeping boy with a look filled with anguish. He clenched and unclenched his hand multiple tis, gritting his teeth.

Sohow, the scene made Seraza giddy. Their fight would be spectacular.

She took a step forward and continued speaking without a care in the world.

"I think he looks better than before. Don’t you?" She smiled. "You can thank for—"

A punch impacted Seraza’s mouth before she could finish talking. The force sent her shooting headfirst into the wall.

Seraza felt pain roaring through her face. She tried to speak.

’My mouth... it’s broken.’ Her thoughts were fuzzy. ’What just... happened?’

She raised her blurry eyes to see that Malakai hadn’t moved from his position. He still stood by Renlo, eyes filled with anguish. And yet, here she was, across the room, in pain.

She had been punched, Seraza realized. But what made her heart pound was sothing else.

’I didn’t see him move.’
