Chapter 240: Blood

The Bloodflow technique allowed Malakai to control the flow of blood around his body.

It was the start to many other techniques. With it, Malakai could learn to control the flow of blood to specific parts of his body, enhancing either his strength or speed.

When one advanced his control even further, he would be able to control his heart rate, either slowing it down or accelerating it to control adrenaline levels.

He could use it to remain calm under pressure or boost his physical output. It was the sa with his blood pressure.

Controlling his blood pressure would let him avoid blood loss in the event of an injury, or even boost his power even more.

But these were all basic control of blood. Moving on from the earlier, as control increased, one would be able to clot their blood and aid in healing any injury fast. And then there was blood hardening.

The basic bloodflow would grant one the ability to harden their blood, but that wasn’t true hardening. With True Hardening, one’s blood would beco tougher than any steel, unbreakable, unbeatable.

Malakai could harden his blood for a while now, but as his control increased, he could tell that so was the strength of his blood.

‘I can’t wait.’ He felt a surge of excitent at his blood mastery advancing. The powers that lay ahead were just that exhilarating. He couldn’t wait.

He was about to continue his training when Grunde suddenly burst into his room without knocking. There was a shocked expression on his face.

“Little bro! Little bro!”

Malakai frowned, and he fought down the urge to ask Nyx to smash his head against the ground, and spoke.

“What?”

Grunde approached and whispered as low as possible.

“Luna has finally responded.”

Malakai’s eyes narrowed.

“Nyx,” he said, and in the next instant, he felt a barrier of vita surround the room. She made sure no one would be able to hear their conversation.

Malakai nodded at Grunde.

“What did she say?”

Grunde breathed heavily. It seed as though he was trying to catch his breath.

“She wants to et!” he said after a second.

“That’s all?”

Grunde nodded.

Malakai frowned.

“Alright then. That’s good, right?” Malakai asked skeptically. He had been expecting sothing else, honestly, when Grunde barged in with the news.

‘Why is he telling ?’ This was what he couldn’t understand. Was this all he ca here to say?

Malakai voiced out his thoughts, and Grunde shook his head, understanding where the confusion ca from.

“Luna wants to et Grunde and little bro.”

Malakai raised an eyebrow. “She wants to et ?” he asked. Grunde nodded firmly.

‘Odd.’

“Did she ntion why?”

Grunde shook his head. “Only that she wanted to et Grunde and little bro tonight.”

“Tonight…” Malakai muttered, as though trying to make sense of the odd situation.

‘What do you think?’ he reached out to Valentine in his head.

‘A hundred percent a trap.’

‘I thought so too,’ Malakai thought with a frown.

‘So… are you going?’

‘Yes.’ Malakai didn’t even need to think about it.

It was dangerous, yes, but the life essence had pointed him toward the depths of that forest. All he was doing in this base was sitting still and ditating. There were no missions. No battles. At this pace, he wasn’t getting anywhere. He needed a change, even if it ca at a risk.

“What ti tonight?” Malakai asked after a mont.

“11 p.m., little bro.”

“Alright,” Malakai nodded. “I’ll et you on the west side an hour to that ti.”

“Oh thank you, little bro!” Grunde seed about to hug Malakai when the boy’s icy gaze made him rethink it.

Instead, he brought his fist out for a fist bump. Malakai sighed, looking at Grunde’s pleading expression.

He shook his head and fist bumped the big guy. Grunde nodded fast and quickly stood up, leaving the room with an excited,

“Thank you, little bro!”

Malakai shook his head. He cleared his thoughts of anything else except the coming situation and ditated. During it, he wondered how he should approach things.

The hours went by quickly and evening turned into night.

Malakai was away from the base, but it wasn’t with Grunde. Before the agreed upon ti, he had already left and was headed toward the Kaer Thorn district, where he t Whiteshade a distance away from the city.

“Take this.”

Malakai handed a sealed envelope over to Whiteshade. The latter stared at it, confused.

Malakai explained before he could ask.

“Follow the instructions in that envelope if you don’t hear from in two days.”

Whiteshade’s eyes widened. “Are you in danger or—”

“Save your questions. I won’t answer them,” Malakai cut in, eyes cold.

“Here is enough blood for three days.” He handed over a vial filled with crimson, and Whiteshade took it with shaky hands.

“Don’t open the letter until after the second day. I’ll ask when I return, and if you’re lying, I’ll know. Do you understand?”

Whiteshade reluctantly nodded after a mont. He didn’t know what was going on, but the thought of sothing happening to Malakai clearly unsettled him.

Without Malakai’s blood, the parasite within him would ravage his body. He swallowed hard and turned to the letter, hands trembling, just as Malakai turned and walked away. There was no choice but to hope.

A distance away, Malakai was running back toward the base.

“Nyx.”

She appeared beside him as he called out, matching his pace.

“Can you follow us without being detected?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“Even from other Blooms?”

“For most Blooms, I can stay undetected. But the truly strong might be able to sense .”

“Can you tell who the truly powerful are and avoid them?”

Nyx thought for a mont before nodding.

“Good,” Malakai said. “I want you to co with us, but stay hidden at all tis. Avoid the ones who can sense you. Only co out when my life is in danger.”

Nyx nodded without hesitation.

“Here, take this.”
