Chapter 226: Chapter 225: The Chaotic Battle on a Snowy Night
The upcoming battle was a clash between the Shadowfla Dragon and Snow Giant Da, as well as between the Human Knight Order and the Snow Demon Legion.
Russell was unable to predict what direction or outco this battle would take.
To say he wasn’t worried, wasn’t afraid, or didn’t want to flee was impossible. He had heard countless tis of the tragic outco of the Fall twenty-one years ago.
But as a lord, he couldn’t shirk his duty to defend his territory. Moreover, this battle was linked to the future of the Shadowfla Grand Duchy. If they were defeated and the Shadowfla Dragon slaughtered, the Shadowfla Grand Duchy might not have a single warm place left.
Wuyao Snake Manor couldn’t avoid it either.
“This is not the outco I want… But if we win the battle and I die, that is equally unacceptable,” pondered Russell, as the Knight Regint marched on. “Father certainly wouldn’t have
die in battle, but once on the battlefield, everything is unforeseeable.”
Although he had the Little Dream Dragon as an ace up his sleeve, it was too weak to play a significant role in such a grand war.
Furthermore, it was possible that its power would be suppressed by the Shadowfla Dragon and Snow Giant Da, perhaps even preventing Gloomy Dreamland from materializing.
Therefore.
What he could rely on was the Unicorn Polly beneath him: “From Glowing Valley to Fire Ant Swamp, it’s at least half a month’s journey. In this half a month, I must train my Battle Qi Chains and bind a contract with Polly as soon as possible!”
Once the contract was successful, Polly’s magic spell—Wraithwalk—could beco his trump card to victory.
“In case the battlefield collapses, Polly and I could use Wraithwalk magic to get away first, preserving my life is of the utmost importance,” he thought.
Retreating in a rout was not Russell’s intention.
But if it ca to that, he wouldn’t mind at all, for nothing was more important than his own life.
After all, as the old saying goes—As long as the green mountains remain, there will be wood to burn.
“As long as I survive, sooner or later, I could return with Ice Cream in tow and play my part in the triumphant return of a king!” Russell had ntally prepared for the worst-case scenario and thereby faced this unknown battle with even greater equanimity.
Flurries of snowflakes, the Knight Regint had already crossed Red Bat Grotto and entered the vast expanse of the snowfield.
Steadfastly advancing along the Great Wall of ice and snow on the Mountain River Trade Route.
Since there was no need to clear away Snow Ghosts from the trade route, the Knight Regint progressed swiftly, reaching the fourth Cold Spring Point in just one day. This pace was twice as fast as a thunder beast-drawn carriage, and one and a half tis that of an ordinary rchant caravan.
The Unicorn Polly’s mode of travel was flight, so there was no motion on her back, which allowed Russell to train anyti, anywhere.
All day long, aside from eating, drinking, and the necessaries, he took every possible mont to train on Polly’s back.
Popping Magic Elixirs like they cost nothing.
Then continuously attempting to refine the Battle Qi Chains.
Only when night fell and everyone in the Knight Regint had gone to sleep did he cease his training and crawl into his sleeping bag to rest.
“Gah!”
The Little Dream Dragon, having felt confined for a while, made a dazzling appearance.
“Let’s go!” Without a second thought, Russell mounted the Little Dream Dragon, picked a direction, and continued to move forward at a speed of thirty-five kiloters per hour.
Before long, they ca across a group of moving Snow Ghosts.
“Ti to start feasting,” chuckled Russell, feeling fortunate that they had encountered a group of Snow Ghosts so soon after setting out.
The Little Dream Dragon rushed over, opened its wide mouth, and stirred the bluish light from about a dozen Snow Ghosts. The light spun into Ice Pellet Pearls and flew into the Little Dream Dragon’s mouth to be crunched up.
In an instant, a group of Snow Ghosts vanished without a trace.
A mont later, Russell found another group of Snow Ghosts, but this ti he was more cautious: “Strange, these Snow Ghosts are all on the run, and the directions of both groups are consistent… That should be to the northwest!”
It was difficult to discern direction within Gloomy Dreamland’s doppelganger, but Russell roughly rembered the direction they had set out in.
“Northwest!”
“Gah!” The Little Dream Dragon didn’t care what Russell was thinking, charging over and sucking up everything, not missing a single Ice Pellet Pearl.
Russell thought to himself: “Previously encountered Snow Ghost groups usually wandered aimlessly at night… Snow Giant Da is gathering the Snow Demon Legion, could it be that these Snow Ghosts heard the call of Snow Giant Da and are now mustering toward Fire Ant Swamp?”
Thinking it over, it seed entirely plausible.
Although he didn’t know how Snow Giant Da managed to traverse thousands of kiloters to gather the Snow Ghosts of the snowfields, the supernatural world possessed transcendent powers, so perhaps the Snow Demon’s strength could cross through space, spreading infinitely into the distance.
“Who cares, I’m going to indulge in a feast with Little Dream Dragon first!” Russell cast aside the thought.
Just as he was about to enjoy a big al with Little Dream Dragon, he felt his Gloomy Dreamland alter ego spinning chaotically, as if caught in an earthquake.
“Is soone calling ?” Russell exclaid in surprise.
Little Dream Dragon only managed a couple of squawks before everything around them plunged into darkness.
“Sir, Sir!”
Russell was shaken awake by his Knight Attendant, and opening his eyes, he struggled to adjust to the abrupt switch from the gloomy dreamland to reality.
As he collected his wits, he looked at the Knight Attendant, Tom, who had woken him, “What’s happened?”
“The Snow Demon Legion has invaded Cold Spring Point!” Tom reported, “Lord Rosen has issued orders for all knights to assemble imdiately and confront the Snow Demon Legion.”
“Right!”
A shock went through Russell, and he quickly scrambled to don his armor.
All the knights of Cold Spring Point were assembling outside in the courtyard, and soon he, too, was beside Eric, mounted on Unicorn Polly.
“Sir,” Eric saluted.
“You command, I’ll follow,” Russell replied succinctly.
Even now, his mind was sowhat muddled; one mont he was slaughtering enemies in the Gloomy Dreamland, and the next, the Snow Demon Legion had caught him off guard and raided his ho.
The change was too sudden.
But as he stepped out of Cold Spring Point and ca up to the courtyard above, the cold wind blew into him, and he fully awakened.
The light of the gem lamps in their hands illuminated the night, allowing them to see that there were already knight regints charging forward. About one to two kiloters away from the courtyard, two large Snow Demons, commanding a large group of Snow Ghosts, were locked in fierce combat with the knights.
“Support regint, all units on my command!” Eric, having organized the troops, imdiately shouted orders, “Follow
in the charge, and break through the battlefield!”
“Understood!”
“Understood!”
“Understood!”
More than thirty knights responded in unison, their morale soaring.
With a rumbling sound, the support regint started to charge under Eric’s lead toward the Snow Demon Legion, one to two kiloters away.
Of course, their target wasn’t the two Snow Demons and the many large green-skinned creatures surrounding them.
It was the scattered Snow Ghosts on the periphery; the support regint wasn’t geared for a tough fight and couldn’t bite off more than they could chew, but they could definitely nibble on the smaller targets.
“Charge!”
Battle Qi resonance linked the knights together, slicing through the Snow Ghost horde with rapid maneuvers, their long spears skewering countless Snow Ghosts onto the icy ground.
Pivot and charge again.
Ti and again, each charge devastated large numbers of Snow Ghosts and the knights completed the cleanup in the chaotic fray by beheading the falling enemies.
“Seize the mont, another charge, completely crush this wave of Snow Ghosts, then clear the field!” Eric roared once more.
Only by quickly defeating the Snow Ghost horde could they clean up the battlefield leisurely and prevent the shredded Snow Ghosts from regathering and being revived.
The long spears had been expended, but their swords were just as invincible.
The final charge successfully decimated the group of Snow Ghosts, followed by a swift battlefield cleanup. Russell, not one to be bothered by the stench of Snow Ghosts, rode Unicorn Polly, quickly harvesting Ice Pellet Pearls.
These Ice Pellet Pearls felt like picking up Gold Coins in his hands.
Looking up at the nearby scene, the two Snow Demons had already been surrounded by several Phantom Beast Knights, their arms and thighs dismbered.
“We’ve got this,” Russell breathed a sigh of relief.
