Chapter 116: Chapter 115 Understanding
“July 29th in the afternoon, the Fluorescent Fungi Mushroom Bugs began to get restless… gave it a piece of sugar in the evening… July 30th, there’s no movent… July 31st, there’s no movent… August 1st, there’s no movent… Today is August 2nd.”
Russell closed the notebook he carried with him and silently sighed.
The Fluorescent Fungi Mushroom Bug in the Elf Room still lay motionless in its spot, its uneven fluctuating magic power being the only indication that it was still in the midst of evolution.
But a puff of dragonfla, as faint as second-hand smoke, clearly wasn’t enough to help it break through its last shackles, causing the final step to remain untaken.
“But fortunately, little guy, you’re still holding on!” Russell’s spirits lifted slightly, “If you had given up and turned to ashes, I wouldn’t even have had the ti to cry. But since you’ve held on, just hold out until tonight, and a new turning point will co!”
The reason was simple.
Today was the fourth day, and the Little Dream Dragon would be released from its three-day ‘solitary confinent’, reerging alongside the Gloomy Dreamland.
This ant another puff of dragonfla, as faint as second-hand smoke, would be available to assist the evolution of the Fluorescent Fungi Bug.
“Although it feels a bit unfair to the Little Dream Dragon, to disappear as soon as it shows up, but… it’s better than having a puff of dragonfla end in failure.” The sunk cost was too high, leaving Russell with no choice but to keep investing.
If he had known from the start that a puff of dragonfla wouldn’t help the evolution of the Spirit Insect, Russell might not have insisted.
But now, he had no choice but to continue.
“Little fellow, you must hold on until the evening!” Russell stroked the back of the Fluorescent Fungi Bug while through telepathy, continually provided it with thoughts of “keep going,” “hold on,” and “cheer up.”
To bolster the Fluorescent Fungi Bug’s will to evolve, its will to survive.
“Master, your horse is ready, and the Red-eyed Rat King has been fed breakfast, ready to leave at any ti,” Butler Morris ca to report, looking sowhat drained, as he had been worrying about the Fluorescent Fungi Bug for several days.
Russell didn’t say much, just nodded, carefully placed the Fluorescent Fungi Bug into a jade box, then hurried downstairs.
Butler Morris could only follow behind Russell, cup his hands under his chin, and silently pray for the Fluorescent Fungi Bug.
“Oh Great Dragon of the noble house, your faithful servant Morris prays to you, earnestly hoping you will glance this way and assist Master’s Fluorescent Fungi Mushroom Bug through its hardest mont, to fly as joyfully as a little bird.”
That wasn’t all.
After Russell rode his black horse, accompanied by the Red-eyed Rat King, racing towards Fluorescent Castle, Morris also went to the servants’ resting room.
He had all the servants sit down at the dining table: “Right now, our manor’s annex is going through a special period. Master’s Fluorescent Fungi Bug is attempting to evolve into a Mushroom Bird… To aid the Fluorescent Fungi Bug, I hope everyone will sincerely pray to the Great Dragon.”
“Oh, of course, Mr. Morris!” Mrs. Moore, the cook, said in a sing-song voice, “Ever since I knew the cute little bug was evolving, before every al I cook, I pray to the Great Dragon!”
“Very well, Mrs. Moore, now please continue to pray to the Great Dragon,” Butler Morris said.
“Of course, of course.”
“Alright, let’s all close our eyes and pray in silence.”
Under the lead of Butler Morris, all male and female servants, kitchen staff included, closed their eyes and prayed to the Shadowfla Dragon.
…
The sun hid behind clouds as the dark clouds continued to roll in on the horizon.
As the warm season got hotter, the weather beca increasingly erratic. The sun blazed when Russell left the house, but by the ti he arrived at Fluorescent Castle, the sky was covered with dark clouds.
“Mr. Russell, welco,” said Chris, the Castle Guard Captain, who was personally standing post at the great archway that day.
“Mr. Chris, hello,” Russell smiled, “I need to visit the castle, we can chat another ti when I’m free.”
“Please, help yourself.”
After greeting, Russell looked at the towering and majestic castle in front of him, where the silvery-gray tiled exterior shone exceptionally bright.
Mr. Ross was not around, no one knew where he had wandered off to.
He squinted slightly, trying to make his expression sadder and more anxious, as there was still a performance to co.
Of course, he was genuinely worried about the Fluorescent Fungi Bug, so his expression and mood quickly t the requirents.
He t Carter, the old butler, in front of the gate.
Most of Carter’s managerial duties had been delegated to the young and strong deputy butlers and housekeepers, so he was often able to stand at the main entrance, accurately welcoming each visitor.
“Mr. Russell, welco ho,” Carter greeted him with a bow at the impeccable angle, welcoming a mber of the Fluorescent Fungi Family back.
“It’s a pleasure to see you, Mr. Carter.”
“But, from your face, Mr. Russell, I seem to detect so worry?” observed Carter, who was very perceptive.
Russell gave a faint smile, “Indeed, I’ve encountered so issues that require my father and mother’s help.”
“Please co in. Could you perhaps reveal what the issue is?”
“One of my Spirit Insects evolved, but it seems to be at a standstill and might fail,” Russell said.
Carter turned serious imdiately, “That is a tricky problem; indeed, only your father and mother can help you now.”
While they were talking, Roland ca down the stairs and imdiately saw Russell, “Russell, what brings you here?”
“There’s an urgent matter.”
“Let’s hear it.”
Seeing the situation, Carter interjected, “Mr. Russell, you talk to Mr. Roland first, I’ll go ask the Lord and Lady.”
In the downstairs living room, Russell took out the jade box and anxiously told Roland about the Fluorescent Fungi Bug’s evolution, “It’s been four days now, if it had failed early, I wouldn’t have bothered father and mother, but it still hasn’t failed, it’s still holding on…”
“This…” Roland beca tense and carefully sensed the condition of the Fluorescent Fungi Bug before frowning, “Indeed, it’s struggling to survive. This little one really is extraordinary, being able to last this long.”
He paused and then shook his head at Russell, “Even so, you still need to prepare for the possibility of losing it.”
“Big brother…”
“Listen to , Russell. I understand how you feel right now, but you also need to listen to
carefully. Our family has developed from Lords to Barons over many years, and during these years, nurous Spirit Insects have attempted to evolve, but in the end, only Lorey succeeded…”
After finishing with the history, Roland sympathetically patted Russell’s shoulder, envying the strong evolutionary will of Russell’s first Spirit Insect.
But the outco seems inevitable, just having that much is not enough.
The countless examples of failed Spirit Insect evolutions in the family history are laid out, all indicating that only the most extraordinary Spirit Insect might have the good fortune to evolve successfully.
Russell’s mood sank further, but soon he lifted his head, “I still want to hear what father and mother have to say.”
Roland shrugged his shoulders, “Of course.”
He then turned his head, continuing to look at the motionless Fluorescent Fungi Bug in the jade box, his eyes revealing a hint of admiration for its tenacious will, but within that admiration, there seed to be a touch of resignation as well.
A sigh of relief that signified resignation.
