Feng Tianyi went to find his mother the mont he heard that the Gu family had arrived. He already spotted Gu Yuyao along with his wife and children and after a short exchange of greetings, he ca to see his mother and Elder Gu.
"Grandpa Gu, I see you are here," he greeted Elder Gu who was seated across Song Huifen, enjoying the refreshnts that were served to him earlier.
"Hello, Tianyi. I just heard so good news today. Congratulations," the old man said, gesturing Feng Tianyi to the empty seat next to him.
Feng Tianyi took a seat and poured himself a drink. He was tired of entertaining and greeting the VIP guests his mother had tonight. It would have been easier for him if Tang Moyu was by his side. But given her condition, he didn't dare to make her feel uncomfortable.
"Thank you, Grandpa. Moyu and I will make sure to invite you once she gives birth to our third child.? I thought you wouldn't be able to co here considering how busy you are these days."
"The Gu family has business everywhere. It's already kind of you to allow Lianchen to accompany once in a while," Elder Gu sighed. Since He Lianchen was the Qing Tian Group's lead counsel and one of the devil's right hand man, he couldn't demand his grandson-in-law to leave the Song family and work for the Gu family instead.
Far from the last ti Feng Tianyi t the old man in Beijing, Elder Gu's hair was completely silver by now. He still dressed casually with just a long sleeved shirt and a pair of black slacks, but the expensive material and quality of it spoke wealth to those who would see him.
Feng Tianyi knew better why Elder Gu had co here. It wasn't as simple as attending his mother's birthday banquet but for him to be able to witness if the Tang Twins were to be the next successors of the Song family.
"Your mother personally invited here. I can't possibly miss the banquet the Song family was hosting." The old man smiled at the younger man. "Your twins are also at the right age to get trained by your mother. Are you sure about this, Tianyi? Shouldn't you be the one who succeeded her first before the twins?"
The Tang twins had just shown up along with the empress four years ago, and so weren't willing to accept the two as Song Huifen's successors. It didn't matter if the little buns were truly Feng Tianyi's children; they were only concerned whether the young children were able to fulfill their roles or if they needed to take the leadership from Song Huifen's hands.
Like any other wealthy families, Song Huifen and Feng Tianyi had relatives waiting to strike at the mont they showed weaknesses. Unlike the Gu family whose absolute control was in Elder Gu's hands, having the Tang twins succeed Song Huifen ant that everyone's attention would be on them.
"I am confident that my children would be able to shut those naysayers. As for , I've long since accepted that I am not fit to lead the Song family," Feng Tianyi admitted truthfully. The twins may be young but they exhibited great potentials that people couldn't easily ignore. Even if the two faced a problem, Feng Tianyi was certain that he and Tang Moyu would be able to help them in the future.
"Grandpa Gu should be worried about your own great grandson." The devil smiled knowingly. Lianchen's relatives were starting to get interested in his marriage with the Gu heiress and how his son was expected to follow his mother in line.
Of course, Gu Yuyao and He Lianchen's firstborn son was expected to succeed elder Gu in the future and no one would be able to contest it even if they wanted to. Until then, Elder Gu wanted to patch things up with and dote on Gu Yuyao whom he had neglected for a long ti.
It was obvious that the Gu family still wanted to retain their connection with the Song family. By having Elder Gu acknowledge Tang Feiyu and Tang Feixiu, other mbers of the Song family as well as their distant relatives would have no choice but to accept the twins into the family.
"But your third child is to succeed the Feng family. Are you sure Xiao Yu would be okay with her children bearing different family nas?" the old man questioned Feng Tianyi.
Feng Tianyi's dark eyes flickered. His hands tightened briefly before taking a sip from his cup.
"Grandpa, do you know, I used to detest my family na before. Just the thought that I am using my father's family na, sharing it with his bastard son was enough for my blood to boil from anger."
"So what changed?" Elder Gu asked while Song Huifen remained silent, waiting for his son's answer. It had been a taboo to talk or ntion her ex-husband's na in front of Feng Tianyi and many were afraid to earn the devil's ire before.
"I have a family," Feng Tianyi said without batting an eyelid. "Moyu told one's family na doesn't define the true relationship we have with each other. I cannot change the fact that I am my father's son but I can prove to everyone that I'm nothing like him."
Just like what his wife said, a child could not choose from whose set of parents he or she would be born into. They could only be responsible with the choices in their lives in the future once they reached the right age to understand the world around them.
So it didn't matter for him and Tang Moyu that their twins would take the Song family na soon. It wouldn't change the fact that they were his and Moyu's precious babies. So long that Xiao Bao and Little Star knew that they were loved by them, it didn't matter and they knew it.
The fact that they were Feng Tianyi and Tang Moyu's children was enough for the twins to not think lowly of themselves in front of everyone. Neither he nor Tang Moyu were pushovers, and if so were to bully the twins, they should be prepared for the repercussions of their actions.
