The relationship between the two imdiately got better after that. Although Zhang Jiren was a little hesitant to tell Li ili his condition, he eventually told her what was going on and what they should expect on his next surgery. His wife had been silent through it all, but the glistening of her eyes told Zhang Jiren that she was worried about him.
"From now on, you have to tell everything. No matter how bad the situation is, you can't keep it a secret. I know you have Moyu and Tianyi to help you, but you also have now, Jiren. You don't have to keep everything to yourself."
After having lunch together at ho and tucking Leyan in her crib as she took her afternoon nap, Zhang Jiren found his wife feeding the divorce papers to the paper shredder one by one inside the study room. He wasn't sure how to take this sudden change in their relationship.
"What's wrong?" Li ili asked when she noticed the conflicted expression written all over his face. "Are you regretting it now?"
Zhang Jiren shook his head as his wife finished what she was doing. Perhaps he might regret agreeing to her later, but as of now, in spite of his hesitance, he was happy. He opened his mouth, wanting to say sothing, but in the end, he remained silent.
Li ili stared at her husband, her eyes slightly narrowing. Zhang Jiren. In na, he was her husband, but their marriage had been nothing more than a business transaction. Or so she thought.
She'd always assud that their relationship was built on agreent and mutual cooperation, so she'd never cared to figure out what the man thought of her. It wasn't until Tang Moyu tried to put so sense in her head and found out that he was ill that she realized that his figure was now embedded deeply in her heart.
At this ti, she made another vow in her heart. She'd vowed that, if possible, she would repay this man's affections for her and her daughter. If she couldn't love him enough, then she would do her best to make him happy, at least. This ti, she would treat Zhang Jiren better.
Perhaps it was because this ti she was finally aware about his feelings for her did Li ili sense the subtle changes in his expressions whenever he looked or spoke with her. It was very easy to notice the gentleness that flashed in his eyes and the troubled expression on his face when he held Leyan.
He was distant and indifferent when it ca to other people; he was also handso and domineering. In the public's eyes, Zhang Jiren was just like Tang Moyu. He gave off an impression of an unapproachable male god who could only be admired from a distance.
However, when it ca to their loved ones, this pair of twins knew how to dote on them to no end. Only in her presence would Zhang Jiren smile like this. Only in front of her would he reveal the side of him that the public wasn't aware of.
"Don't ever speak of divorce again," she said in a commanding tone. "If you dare speak that word in front of again, I would tell Moyu you are bullying !"
Zhang Jiren snorted, as he tried not to laugh at her empty threats. He found it cute that she would threaten him using his own sister. As for bullying, should he be the one who should complain instead of her? Hadn't she realized that he was powerless when it ca to her?
However, he never regretted his decision when he married her. He only blad himself for having such feelings towards her. Almost two years had passed since they got married, and he wasn't able to make Li ili feel even a slight affection towards him until now.
If Tang Moyu hadn't ddled in their affairs, would Li ili look at him like this? Forcing down the bitterness in his heart, he patted her head gently.
"Okay. I will listen to you," he responded to her demand. His brain must really be muddled for him to agree to Li ili's demand so easily. Now that they settled things for now, would this an she wanted their relationship to last a lifeti?
Li ili smiled at him genuinely this ti. At first, she thought that she would never ever et another man who was as devoted as Tang Beixuan. As it turned out, she was very lucky because the man she just married not only loved her but cherished her daughter unconditionally as well.
She took his hand in hers and grinned at him. The awkwardness and tension between them was forgotten, now that she acknowledged her feelings she had for him. While it's true that Tang Beixuan was still in her heart, she also couldn't deny her growing feelings towards her husband.
If she was to madly fall in love again, if Zhang Jiren was willing to have her heart, Li ili didn't mind being with him in this lifeti.
"In this world, there won't be another man who loves and Leyan like you do."
"Is that what you really think?" Zhang Jiren stepped forward, his head lowering to shorten the distance between them. If that was how Li ili perceived him now, he could only try his best to live up to those words.
"Hmph. Zhang Jiren, if you think you could have illicit affairs with other won and abandon later, you better prepare yourself to get beaten by Moyu. You might be her twin brother, but I am her sworn sister."
Zhang Jiren couldn't help but smile. If the two of them quarreled, he had no doubt that he wouldn't hear the end of it from his sister. Just like what Li ili said, Tang Moyu would be inclined to favor her over him.
His eyes sized her up. Regardless of what had brought Li ili to have a change of heart towards him, he couldn't waste this opportunity to be with her.
