Everyone looked at Zhang Jiren in surprise, their jaws dropped when he raised his number and bid for Li ili's dress. Li ili who was still up the stage, stared at her husband with widened eyes as she was also caught off guard, seeing him participating in the auction.
"Wait. Why is Zhang Jiren bidding for his wife's dress?" soone asked from the crowd.
"Of course, that is precisely why he is bidding on it. The dress was made by his wife, so why would he allow another person to have it?"
Hearing the explanation, it made sense for so. Well, the Zhang family's resources weren't lacking anyway, and even though their status was far below compared to the Li's, no one would dare to look down on Zhang Jiren. But, they all wondered. For Zhang Jiren to be able to bid fifty million, did this an that there had been a massive growth within the Zhang Corporation?
anwhile, Zhou Xinwei's expression looked miserable. Fifty million was her limit for purchasing the dress. If she dared to go beyond her budget, she was afraid that she would receive a great scolding from her father after this.
Obviously, fifty million wasn't sothing she could throw easily. She didn't dare to raise her number to bid for Li ili's dress again.
Feng Tianyi's eyes narrowed and raised the bid with another million which Zhang Jiren followed with the sa increase.
"$58 million!" The devil bid, giving his brother-in-law a challenging look but Zhang Jiren didn't back down.
"$60 million!" Zhang Jiren shouted, while Li ili's vision started to spin. What the hell was wrong with her husband? Why was he bidding against Feng Tianyi? Why was her best friend's husband bidding on her dress anyway?
"Did Zhang Jiren have a beef against Feng Tianyi? Why is he competing with the devil?"
"Their wives are really close. I heard Tang Moyu and Li ili are childhood friends. It's surprising to see that their husbands don't get along well."
Li ili glanced toward Tang Moyu's expression, her eyes letting the empress know of her unspoken question.
'Why is your husband bidding on my dress? What is he up to?'
Tang Moyu sighed in return and shook her head.
'Don't ask , ili.'
"Mr. Zhang bids for $60 million! Mr. Feng, do you want to continue?" the auctioneer asked the devil up at the VIP lounge. His eyes had an excited glint on them as the devil and the empress rarely showed up in public events together like this.
"$70 million!" Feng Tianyi raised his number.
The tension within the hall rose to another level. Those who didn't know the nature of the relationship between Feng Tianyi and Zhang Jiren would assu that the two n didn't get along well, despite the fact that their wives were as close as sisters.
The auctioneer thought that they reached the pinnacle of the price for the winning dress and decided to end the auction. Seventy million was a huge price and if Zhang Jiren persisted and continued to bid, he would probably not be able to defeat the devil who had better resources than him.
"Mr. Feng bid for $70 million! Going once! Going twice!"
At this mont, everyone thought that Zhang Jiren had forfeited and admitted defeat to the devil. Anyway, being a Song had put Feng Tianyi in a more advantageous situation than Zhang Jiren, whose popularity and wealth was more recent. Throwing seventy million was surely not a problem for a person like Feng Tianyi.
The audience waited for the auctioneer to announce Feng Tianyi as the winning bidder but even before the auctioneer finished his words, Zhang Jiren unexpectedly raised his number from the crowd and declared his bid.
"$100 million!"
Everyone was stunned at what they heard. Did Zhang Jiren say one hundred million?
The auctioneer suddenly gasped and almost choked on his own breath from shock. He turned to his side and coughed away from the microphone before returning his gaze to Zhang Jiren who was giving him a cold look.
There was a dead silence within the hall as everyone took ti before they returned to their senses. So turned their necks towards Zhang Jiren's direction to see if he was serious with his bid. Feng Tianyi's seventy million was already high enough, how could Zhang Jiren raise the price up to one hundred million so easily?
"Wow, did I hear him right? $100 million for his wife's dress? I didn't know the Zhang family could afford to throw money like that?"
"What are you saying? The Zhang family? You are mistaken, my friend. Haven't you heard the silent feud with the Zhang family? The one who's really loaded with money is Zhang Jiren and not the Zhang family. He is actually the family's cash cow. Why do you think they allowed an illegitimate child to enter their family business if they couldn't make use of him?"
"Ahh… I didn't know the situation within the Zhang family is that bad. But to think that Zhang Jiren is willing to throw one hundred million for his wife's dress— that's so kind of dedication!"
The auctioneer started to sweat profusely. Why were these two devils giving him a hard ti anyway? Just as he thought that he would be able to close the auction with Feng Tianyi's seventy million bid, Zhang Jiren had chosen to give the final blow.
The price had leaped trendously from seventy to one hundred million. Surely, this ant that Zhang Jiren wasn't willing to admit defeat to the devil.
"Mr. Zhang went to bid for one hundred million. Anyone else going to challenge this bid?" the auctioneer asked before glancing at Feng Tianyi.
Tang Moyu had enough of her husband's absurdity and pulled his arm.
"Stop fighting with Jiren. Don't you know why he's bidding? That's because he didn't want to see ili cry when her dress ends up with other people," she explained to her hard headed husband.
Feng Tianyi furrowed his brows before looking at Zhang Jiren below the stage then to Li ili. Ah, how could he have missed it! He should have realized the reason the mont Zhang Jiren started to bid!
