Zhang Jiren's lips curled up, hearing her talk about his niece and nephew again. He would never get tired listening to stories about the little buns, given how much ti he had wasted, not being able to be by Tang Moyu's side since she gave birth to them.
"It's that so? Don't you think it's a coincidence?" he asked in response, but Li ili was adamant that she was right about babies being so s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e at a very young age.
"Nope. I don't think so. I think babies as young as Leyan already have their preference. Little Star used to nurse only on one b.r.e.a.s.t and that's on the left where she could feel and hear Moyu's steady heartbeat. I think it's cute and endearing at the sa ti."
Li ili rembered watching her goddaughter nursing only on Tang Moyu's left b.r.e.a.s.t and would inevitably fall asleep, presumably being soothed not only by the milk she had consud but also by the familiar sound she was hearing.
Zhang Jiren then humd in understanding. Now that Li ili ntioned it, he briefly rembered how babies developed in their mother's w.o.m.b which he had read a few months before Leyan was born.
If one was to ask most people what newborn babies did, they would probably say that they only slept, cried, and soiled their diapers, which was true enough. But they were also tiny creatures who were fast in trying to make sense of their world.
"Well, babies develop their auditory system that begins to function several months after their conception. It's only natural for Little Star back then to be familiar with her mother's heartbeat, but what does that have to do with being close with Leyan?" he asked.
Li ili paused for a mont to think about how she should answer him. He wasn't the only one who'd been reading pregnancy books, okay. She even read a few books regarding childcare after giving birth.
"I read sowhere that babies have so perceptual biases. So sights, sounds, and slls are inherently more pleasing to them than others. I heard from Feng Tianyi that Leyan stopped crying the mont you held her the first ti. I think she really likes you a lot more than you know."
Zhang Jiren turned to lay on his side to look at her. A faint smile spread on his lips at what she said. To be fair, he also liked Leyan too, so the feeling was mutual between them.
"What can I say? I didn't think my charm isn't only applicable to won but also girls as young as Leyan," he sighed, feigning disappointnt, making Li ili snort in an unladylike manner in return. She had never thought that the man she married also had a narcissistic streak on him.
"What I'm saying is, babies as young as Leyan can associate odors to people around them. Since Leyan liked your scent aside from mine, once you get busy with work, I fear that she would be cranky once she notices your absence."
"I see." Zhang Jiren finally understood what she ant now and wondered what he could do to make sure Leyan would be fine without him around. "I guess we'll just have to figure out what to do when that ti cos."
Li ili humd and yawned for the umpteenth ti, hoping that the day when Leyan could sleep through the night without disturbance would co soon.
"Just leave a used shirt with your scent whenever you think you would be coming back late. I'll try to see if Leyan would calm down with it."
Zhang Jiren was rendered speechless at what she said and stared at her blankly. She wasn't serious, right?
"What?" she questioned him once she noticed his awkward look. What now? Did she say sothing wrong?
"Li ili, you know that this is commonly done by so girlfriends and wives whenever their partners are away, right? You could have just asked honestly if you want my shirt,? instead of using Leyan as an excuse," he said in a teasing tone.
Li ili's face turned beet red at once, clearly shocked to hear Zhang Jiren talking like this. They had been married for months now and this was the first ti she heard him say such words, trying to make fun of her.
She had never thought that a person who was stern and serious most of the ti like him would know how to crack a joke like that. This was so out of his character, or, perhaps, Li ili didn't know him well enough to know the other side he had aside from his cold and stern facade.
"Y-you!" she exclaid. "You're impossible, Zhang Jiren! What made you think I would want to sniff your scent like so kind of a weirdo?! How dare you compare to them?!"
Who would want to sll a used shirt with a distinct scent of their partners? Certainly not her! Even when Tang Beixuan was alive, she never dared to do such a shaful thing to his clothes— not even once.
Li ili's initial thought was, wouldn't it be disgusting? Of course, she also heard that so won did it, but the idea didn't sound appealing in her opinion.
"Ah, don't be shy, Li ili. I understand it's pretty normal," she heard Zhang Jiren say in return. "You can share my shirt with Leyan whenever you want, I won't mind."
"No way." She shot down his suggestion at once. "I only ntioned it for Leyan's sake. You think I'm interested in doing that? You wish!" Li ili harrumphed, annoyed that he was trying to make fun of her. She then turned her back on him, refusing to talk to him anymore.
"Ah, this, coming from the woman who told not to touch her but would constantly try to trap in bed every night?" She could hear the amus.e.m.e.nt in his voice much to her irritation. Zhang Jiren surely was enjoying teasing her like this.
"It was an accident! I didn't an to do that!" she said in defense. Of course, she knew this. How many tis did she find herself cuddling Zhang Jiren in the morning whenever she woke up?
"Sure, I believe you. Considering how many tis you successfully destroyed the pillow wall you put every night between us. "
