Chapter 34: Herald

Jensen raised his free hand and his telekinesis reached out like invisible fingers and grabbed the nearest corpse by the ankle and dragged it across the ground towards him.

He absorbed its blood then he used it to fuel Posey’s refinent.

The new blood hit Posey like a wave, this ti the pain reached his soul.

Before, the pain had been physical, but this was different.

When Jensen used blood cultivation to improve his own Level, he refined the blood first.

He filtered out the impurities and the mories and the echoes of the people it ca from before using it.

Jensen did not refine this blood. He used it directly and Posey felt everything.

He felt the deaths of the n whose blood now flowed inside him. He felt their last monts, their fear, pain and agony.

All of it poured into Posey at once.

His soul scread but his soul had no throat, and before it could go through it all his mind shattered.

As this happened Jensen pulled out the blades that pinned Posey in place.

One by one, he yanked them from Posey’s body allowing Jensen to properly refine the body and close up the wound.

Posey’s arms fell limp at his sides, his legs stopped shaking and his head lolled to one side.

The refinent was almost complete.

Jensen kept absorbing the blood from every body in the ca until there was nothing left and he used every drop to refine Posey’s body.

When Jensen finished the physical refinent, he moved to the next step.

He used the skill he had stolen from Kevin Baker that Kevin used to ta the bear to gain control of Posey’s mind. Or whatever was left of it.

The skill slid into place like a key turning in a lock and Jensen felt the connection form.

"Stand up," Jensen ordered.

’Posey’ rose from the ground.

The movent was not completely natural.

A living person uses dozens of small muscles to stand. They typically shift their weight and adjust their balance, making tiny corrections without thinking.

’Posey’ did none of that; his body went from lying down to standing up in one motion as his joints moved exactly as much as needed and no more.

His head turned toward Jensen with a smooth chanical slowness. His eyes were open, but nothing could be seen behind them.

"Show

your fighting ability," Jensen ordered.

’Posey’ picked up one of the swords, wrapped his fingers around the grip and began to swing.

The first strike was perfect and so was the second and the third and so on.

’Posey’ moved through forms and stances. Every motion was precise and efficient and there was no wasted energy.

He kept going for almost half an hour.

Jensen watched the whole ti as he studied ’Posey’s’ movent.

’Looks like he kept his combat IQ,’ Jensen thought. ’Muscle mory was a powerful thing.’

’But could ’Posey’ still function as a human?’ Jensen thought, ’But can he still function as a human... I an he is basically now undead.’

"Speak," Jensen ordered.

’Posey’ opened his mouth, his jaw moved up and down. His tongue shifted inside his mouth, but only random words ca out.

"Stone... red... walking... before... no... cold..." The words had no connection to each other.

’He can speak,’ Jensen thought. ’But not coherent words on his own.’

"Say, Kill," Jensen ordered.

"Kill."

The word ca out clear with perfect pronunciation.

’He can indeed talk. I just have to tell him what to say.’

Jensen stood there for a mont, thinking then a bright idea ca to his mind.

Mind Link.

He used the skill and connected himself to ’Posey’. The mont the link ford, Jensen felt sothing else.

The Mind Control skill and the Mind Link worked together better than he expected.

The energy he needed to control ’Posey’ dropped by half, maybe more and he did not have to speak out loud anymore.

’I guess I should give you a new na, uhn.’ Jensen thought about it for a while, he considered different nas over in his head.

Until finally one ca to him.

’How about Herald?’

’Yes... Herald.’

’My ssenger and forerunner.’

’Yes,’ Jensen thought. ’Herald.’

The light in Herald’s eyes changed for a mont, a faint glow behind his dead eyes and then it disappeared.

He grabbed pulled off Herald’s own spatial ring before giving his next order.

’Gather all the spatial rings and search every nook and cranny of this place.’ Jensen ordered Herald. ’Put the bodies in one pile and the resources in another pile in front of that massive tent.’

Herald imdiately got to work.

He walked to the nearest corpse and knelt down. His hand grabbed the spatial ring on the dead man’s hand, pulled it off and walked off to the next body.

Jensen turned around, walked to Posey’s massive tent and walked in.
