Book 6: Chapter 111: Sacrifice

Ignoring the tearing pain surging through her soul, Lilith had intended to send Gerald straight to hell with black flas. Yet a warm hand stopped her.

“Lilith, your soul is seriously injured. For now, do not use black flas anymore. Leave everything to .” It was her mother.

Lilith tilted her head slightly, feeling the gentle strokes of that hand upon her hair. Even her trembling soul seed to settle under that touch, calming little by little. Only then did Lilith have the presence of mind to truly look at the fiery red figure holding her.

“Mother… why are you covered in blood?”

“I am sorry. I accidentally took a fall just now. There is no need to worry about .” The Dragon Queen smiled as she reassured her.

‘No, no, no. No matter how you look at it, there’s no way a fall could cause injuries like this.’ Lilith stared at the savage gash carved across the Dragon Queen’s exposed skin, blood still gushing relentlessly from each wound, and the light in her eyes dimd slightly.

Why would the undisputed strongest being of the Great World be reduced to this state? The answer was not hard to guess at all.

“It was because of… , wasn’t it?”

“No. This has nothing to do with you, Lilith.” The Dragon Queen remained gentle. She tightened her embrace once more and said softly, “This is a mistake I made nine million years ago, so it must be corrected by my own hands. Lilith, just rest for now.”

“But I still have so many things I want to say…”

“Those things can wait until later.” The Dragon Queen lifted her head and gazed toward a distant place beyond the star systems, murmuring quietly, “There is… almost no ti left.”

“No ti? But Gerald is no longer a threat, isn’t he? What do you an by no ti?” Lilith could not help but press for an answer. For so reason, even though everything seed to be moving in a good direction, a sense of unease still lingered deep within her heart.

Sothing she had overlooked was still there. But what was it?

“It is fine, Lilith. Leave everything to .” The Dragon Queen did not answer directly and instead continued to comfort her with the sa gentle tone. “Mother will definitely create a beautiful future for you.”

“But I—”

This ti, the Dragon Queen did not give Lilith another chance to ask. Her figure flashed, and she appeared directly in front of Gerald. “Dragon Progenitor, are you ready to accept death?”

“Wait, Regalis, I was just joking earlier. I actually—”

“I am sorry. This ti, I cannot afford to leave you any leisure for pleasant conversation.” Regalis raised her hand coldly, cutting off Gerald’s futile struggle. “I am truly in a hurry right now.”

With that, the Dragon Queen spread her palm. Boundless, overwhelming might surged forth, crushing Gerald’s flesh, bones, and even his soul under rciless pressure. In but an instant, the once-mighty Origin Dragon Gerald could no longer even scream. In endless despair, he could only watch as his vitality was ground away bit by bit.

In the end, even his soul did not survive, ruthlessly erased into nothingness by the Dragon Queen. Thus, the source of all sin, the origin of the twin tragedies that befell the Dragon Eater and the Great World alike, the Origin Dragon Gerald, was utterly annihilated here, his soul scattered to nothing.

His end ca so abruptly. Yet the story was not over. The Dragon Queen turned back to look at Lilith, but her gaze did not seem to rest upon her. Instead, it was as if she were looking through Lilith, watching soone else beyond her.

“Are you satisfied with this ending?”

“Eh?” Lilith froze.

She had not yet understood why Mother would ask such a question. But another voice answered the Dragon Queen. “Of course. Having one’s soul scattered and erased… there should be no more miserable ending in this world than that.”

A phantom shadow drifted out from Lilith’s body, taking on an appearance identical to hers. “Even though I did not strike the final blow myself, this is enough for .”

The Dragon Eater, or rather, the soul of the Dragon Eater, gazed tearfully at the place where Gerald had vanished.

On her face were intertwined the exhilaration of long-awaited vengeance and another pain that could not be clearly nad or described. Countless emotions tangled within her, so complex that even she herself could not fully untangle them.

Yet Lilith could feel it clearly. Her soul had beco much lighter, because that hatred, deep as an endless sea, had vanished completely along with Gerald’s death, leaving not a single trace behind.

“Our deal…”

“The deal was fulfilled. I have already received my paynt.”

“Wait. What deal are you talking about?”

Lilith, who had not understood a single thing from beginning to end, asked urgently, desperate for an answer. Because the ominous feeling in her heart was growing stronger by the second. Yet no one replied.

Only the Dragon Eater wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and walked toward Lilith.

“Lilith, sotis I truly envy you.” The Dragon Eater spoke softly. “To have so many people who love you, who are willing to give everything for you.”

Then, all of a sudden, the Dragon Eater spread her arms and embraced Lilith. Sacred flas rose up from her body.

“Seeing you like this, I often think back and wonder… if only I had known how to cherish things back then.”

“Wait! What are you doing? What the hell is this fire? Why can’t it be put out at all?”

“It’s a pity. There are no ifs.”

“B̲a̲s̲t̲a̲r̲d̲, stop talking to yourself and answer !”

Lilith stared at the Dragon Eater in panic. The sacred flas on her body had no heat, nor did they convey any sensation of harm. Yet as the flas burned ever more fiercely, the Dragon Eater’s figure grew increasingly faint.

It was almost as if… she were burning her own soul to fuel the flas.

“Don’t be afraid, Lilith. This is for your own good.” The Dragon Eater comforted her gently. “Just sleep. Everything will be fine after that.”

“Don’t give that b̲u̲l̲l̲s̲h̲i̲t̲. Who are you trying to fool with ‘just sleep’? You’re the problem here. What exactly are you trying to do?” Lilith clenched her teeth and tried to push the Dragon Eater away, but her hands passed straight through her body, never managing to touch anything.

“What’s going on… why has your soul suddenly dimd to this extent? Don’t tell you’re really burning your own soul. Answer . You’re not actually doing sothing this stupid, are you?”

Lilith’s face turned pale. A soul so weak that it could no longer touch physical matter was already on the brink of complete annihilation.

“This isn’t stupidity. It’s a deal.”

Even as her own existence continued to fade, the Dragon Eater revealed a long-lost smile. She gazed at Lilith as though she were watching a miracle she herself had created slowly co into being.

“This was a deal I made with the Dragon Queen a very long ti ago. It was simply delayed until now. So don’t be afraid, Lilith. I won’t hurt you.”

“Who the hell said I was afraid!” Lilith’s eyes, already bloodshot, widened as she roared in fury. “You think I’d be scared of a broken little soul like you? Don’t make laugh. What I care about is this ‘deal’ you keep talking about. What kind of nonsense is it? Stop hiding it and say it!”

“It’s nothing complicated. Just a simple exchange of one life for another.”

“One life… for another?”

One life referred to the already dead Gerald. Then the other life being exchanged… was it her own?

“Are you kidding ? I’m alive and well. Why would I need you to trade your life for mine?”

Lilith struggled violently. She even tried to call upon the black flas, but when she realized that even the black crystal was completely useless at this mont, she turned her pleading gaze toward the Dragon Queen nearby.

“Mother, please…”

“I’m sorry, Lilith.” The Dragon Queen turned her eyes away with visible pain and sighed softly. “This is the sacrifice that must be paid for you to obtain true freedom.”
