Ch.6 Where is Master!

Saint Cecilia arrived in the capital late at night.

Normally, the city gates wouldn’t be open at this hour, but the guards opened them for her simply because she was the noble saint.

“Ugh… my butt hurts.”

Cecilia, who had slain the Demon King and then leisurely rode a carriage from a nearby cathedral, was filled with excitent and nervousness as she ca to the capital to resign from her position as saint and live with the man she loved.

Excitent at the thought of finally being free from the responsibilities of being a saint and living with her beloved, and nervousness at the idea of starting an entirely new life after spending her whole life as a clergywoman.

Of course, she believed that with her beloved by her side, she could overco any hardship.

‘And… I’m so sick of convent life.’

The convent life, where she wasn’t allowed to speak a word from evening to morning, was unbearably harsh for Cecilia, who had experienced the outside world.

‘And there are no romance novels. The food is terrible too.’

There were only a few romance novels in the convent. Whenever a new one was released, she had to wait ages for it. But now, she could read any novel she wanted without waiting.

Moreover, for her, who now found happiness in eating delicious food, the hard bread and mysterious soup served in the convent were no different from being thrown back into hell.

“Money… Hans the priest will earn it.”

Though Hans, as an honorary priest, wasn’t obligated to remain unmarried, his inco wasn’t particularly good.

‘But so what? I’ll handle the housework, and we’ll live happily in our small, cozy ho.’

Living requires money.

How much does one need for food, shelter, clothes, and other necessities?

Of course, unlike Cecilia’s imagination, Hans’s inco was enormous.

It was absurd to think a man who had built the largest company in the empire had no wealth.

But since she didn’t know this, such thoughts were possible for her.

—Screech!

Soon, the carriage stopped.

“Saint, we’ve arrived at the Vatican.”

At those words, Cecilia felt relieved—she no longer had to ride the carriage.

She stepped out of the carriage, picked up her luggage with light steps, and entered the Vatican.

‘It’s too late tonight. I’ll sleep a little and then secretly visit Hans’s house tomorrow.’

Just imagining his surprised reaction already made her happy.

‘What expression will he make? A shocked look? Or will he be moved to tears?’

As Cecilia imagined Hans’s expression, she unconsciously smiled.

“Hehe… I shouldn’t scare him too much.”

Cecilia was already looking forward to tomorrow.

***

The Grand Mansion.

Leah, arriving in front of it, panted heavily and roughly wiped the sweat streaming down her cheeks.

“Hah… hah…”

Having found the address the company guards had ntioned, Leah approached the mansion.

“Halt! This is Baron Pisa’s mansion. State your identity.”

The mansion’s private soldiers, on guard, spoke to Leah.

To them, a petite girl resembling a mage, panting heavily in the dead of night, could easily be an intruder—hence their caution.

After all, why would a woman be running around at night in this area, which wasn’t a slum?

Especially a mage, who clearly wasn’t a maid working in the mansion.

Thus, the soldiers’ caution was entirely reasonable.

But Leah, who had run all the way here, was growing increasingly irritated and angry.

“Master… no, where is Mr. Hans?”

Though her cold killing intent pressed down on the soldiers, they gritted their teeth and endured—different from the company guards.

“M-Mage! Everyone, defend the mansion!”

—Whistle!

As soone blew a whistle to call for reinforcents, the mansion instantly erupted into chaos.

—Whistle! Whistle!

Seeing the whistle sounds spreading like beacon fires toward the mansion, Leah’s eyes sharpened.

“Hah? You want to fight ?”

The magic flowing from her body made her red hair dance wildly.

“Why is my luck so bad today? I just imagined a happy, touching scene where I et Master and relieve all my exhaustion…”

Leah’s voice trailed off.

Then, she loudly shouted at the soldiers,

“Do you know who I am? Do you all want to die?”

As soon as she finished speaking, at least several hundred fire arrows hovered, ready to rain down on the soldiers at any mont.

‘This should be enough to scare them off, right?’

Though angry, Leah didn’t want to kill the soldiers protecting her master.

She intended only to frighten them, but she didn’t know the soldiers would do anything for the baron—who paid them generous wages, granted them five-day workweeks, and even provided a new allowance called ‘night shift pay’ for standing guard at night.

“Witch! You’ll never reach the baron!”

Knowing the baron was her master, Leah’s anger boiled over at the soldier’s words.

‘Should I kill them all?’

Hundreds of lethal spells flashed through her mind, but she held back once more.

‘Master would be angry if I did.’

She had no choice—she didn’t want her master to hate her.

“Tch. What are you lot? Do you think you can stop

from seeing Master? Fly!”

Scoffing at the ridiculous soldiers, Leah cast a flight spell.

“Na-na-na! I’ll just fly over to see him!”

As she flew over the wall toward the mansion…

“Witch! Stop her! Protect the baron!”

The soldiers hurriedly chased after her.

***

Sitting at the desk, I began writing a letter.

Perhaps the last letter I’d ever send to them.

Leah, Cecilia, Scarlet, Mia.

Though they frightened , I’d known them for quite a long ti.

Leaving without even a single letter might hurt them.

I could just say I was terminally ill and died, right?

My plan was this:

Buy four graves and set up tombstones with the na ‘Hans’.

Then, as they begin tracing my fake addresses, Giovanni will step in, pretending to be my close friend, and hand them the letter.

The letter would say I was terminally ill, had little ti left, and apologized—wishing them to find good partners.

They’d cry a lot, but ti would heal that. Eventually, they’d et new people.

And they’d forget .

Yes, perfect.

Ah… to be forgotten by these clingy, terrifying won.

I’m a genius.

As I thought this, finishing the letter and slipping it into an envelope,

—Whistle!

—Whistle!

Anxious whistle sounds enveloped the mansion.

C-could it be? No, it can’t be. It won’t be.

I desperately tried to calm my racing heart.

Had they already started tracking ?

No, it couldn’t be. It would still take ti for them to reach the capital and trace my whereabouts.

Surely it was just a thief who’d heard rumors of

leaving the mansion and ca to the wrong place.

Of course, I rembered those whistle sounds were a signal to arm all soldiers and evacuate the baron… or was I wrong?

I must be mistaken.

Thinking this, I stepped out of my room and grabbed a passing servant.

“It’s noisy outside. What’s happening?”

“Ba-baron, you must flee! Those whistle sounds are the signal to arm all soldiers and evacuate you!”

It couldn’t be the Hero party girls. C-could it be the emperor trying to capture ?

As I delusionally tried to escape reality, I hurriedly ran back into my room and grabbed my artifacts.

I had Equality… yes, this should be enough to put up a fight.

“Baron, what are you doing? You must flee imdiately!!!”

—Intruder on the first floor!

—Aaah!

—Boom!

Along with a powerful explosion, the soldiers’ shouts reached .

—Master, co out!

“Master?”

‘That voice…’

The servant, hearing the strange word, echoed it back. I thought I’d misheard a familiar voice, but the servant’s reaction suggested otherwise.

Sothing was wrong. It seed Leah had co looking for . How had she found this place?

“Escape route… where’s the escape route?”

I couldn’t be caught. If caught, I’d surely be interrogated, and if the Hero party girls discovered I’d ‘set four legs’, I’d be torn limb from limb.

Thinking this, I opened the door and ran down the hallway.

The voice had clearly co from downstairs.

If I took the east staircase instead of the central one, I could slip out quietly.

Of course, the soldiers would get hurt… but Leah wasn’t cruel—she probably wouldn’t attack lethally. Sorry, everyone.

Besides, this was a world with healing magic. Leah would surely heal them.

Thinking this, I ran as fast as I could.

—Crash!

Ignoring the unsettling sounds, I descended the stairs.

—Thud-thud…

“Hah… hah…”

I should’ve brought a few more artifacts.

Regretting that I’d only brought Equality, I kept running.

—Crash!

—Kyaaah!

Hearing sothing shatter and a woman’s scream, my legs, which had been running smoothly, stopped.

“Damn it.”

I thought of the people who had wished

well as I left.

The servants who had prayed for my future.

They wouldn’t die, but they’d surely be in great pain.

Focusing only on my own safety, my perspective had narrowed.

And now, there was nowhere left to run.

“Hah…”

Straightening my clothes, I walked toward where I assud Leah would be.

—Master, where are you?!

Leah’s voice, echoing from far down the hallway, sent chills down my spine.

Like a beast’s roar, her voice, reverberating through the walls, reminded

of a horror movie I’d once seen.

Hoo… calm down.

Holding Equality in my right hand, I headed toward the source of the sound.
