Wu Jingjing curled up in the quilt, listening to the sounds outside. She fumbled for her phone from under the pillow, wanting to call Wu Chengzu. But the call couldn’t go through, and Wu Jingjing was so anxious that she started crying.
"Dad! Please pick up the phone..."
A bunch of police officers burst into the house the mont Aunt Ma opened the door, showing their badges, "Police, please cooperate with us."
Aunt Ma nodded repeatedly, saying, "I’m just here to take care of the child, I don’t know anything! Please don’t arrest ! I don’t know anything!"
The police ignored her and began searching the house.
Aunt Ma stood aside nervously, thinking she was terribly unlucky. She finally found a high-paying job, only to get entangled with the police.
The police headed straight for the two locked rooms that Bai Yiran ntioned, prying the doors open roughly and starting to search inside.
Aunt Ma was about to sneak away, not wanting to stay a minute longer in such a place, but a policeman stopped her, "Where’s the child?"
"The child?" Aunt Ma was startled, then pointed to Wu Jingjing’s room, "There! Right there!"
The police walked to Wu Jingjing’s door, afraid to startle her, first knocking a few tis.
"Little friend, open the door, we are the police."
The room was extrely quiet, and the police felt sothing was wrong. With the noise they made upon entering, there was no reason the child wouldn’t be awakened.
When the police broke in, Wu Jingjing was about to jump out the window to escape but didn’t dare to act because it was too high.
"Little friend! Don’t act rashly! Co down quickly!" Several policen watched Wu Jingjing nervously. One of her legs was already hanging outside, just a bit forward, and she would fall.
"I’m not coming down!" Wu Jingjing cried, wearing only a thin nightgown, the cold wind outside quickly numbing her body and limbs.
"Child, don’t make a fuss! We are uncle police, we are good people, we won’t harm you, co down!" Wu Jingjing was crucial for capturing Wu Chengzu, nothing could happen to her now.
Moreover, she was just an innocent child, and out of humanitarian compassion, no one wanted anything bad to happen to such a young child.
But Wu Jingjing was determined not to co down, "I’m not coming down unless you tell , is sothing wrong with my dad? Are you going to arrest him?"
Wu Jingjing’s cries grew stronger, and so of the policen, who were married with children, felt their hearts ache seeing her in such a pitiful state.
She was, after all, a poor child. What wrong had she done? It was her father who was at fault!
"Child, calm down, it’s very dangerous and cold there. Listen to uncle, co down first, okay?" The police slowly approached her, "When you co down, uncle will tell you, okay?"
Seeing that they were approaching her, Wu Jingjing leaned forward again, her state becoming shaky, "Don’t co near !" The cold wind slapped Wu Jingjing’s face, making her cries sound exceptionally tragic, "Why do you want to arrest my dad? Can’t you not arrest him? I only have my dad, don’t arrest him..."
"Okay, okay!" Seeing that most of Wu Jingjing’s body was outside the window, the police quickly agreed, "We won’t arrest him, we won’t arrest him! Just co down, okay? Uncle will take you to find your dad!"
Wu Jingjing shook her head, "You’re all lying to , I’m not stupid... My dad must have done sothing bad, you won’t let him go... won’t let him go!"
Wu Jingjing’s emotions hit a peak, and her limbs, numbed by the wind, could no longer support her body. She swayed and fell straight down.
"Child!" The police reached out to grab her, but it was too late...
