In the following days, Leng Yichen beca even busier. It was unclear whether he was occupied with company matters or sothing related to Gao Sheng. He didn’t say, and Bai Yiran didn’t ask proactively. Everyone knew the situation, yet things proceeded smoothly.

These days, Bai Yiran obediently stayed ho, but she hadn’t completely severed ties with Wu Jingjing.

She had just promised Wu Chengzu that she would take care of Wu Jingjing, so it wouldn’t be practical to cut Wu Jingjing off entirely.

In fact, Bai Yiran was sowhat tired of dealing with Wu Jingjing. It seed like this child had discovered or guessed sothing during this period, and every conversation with her felt loaded with subtext.

"Aunt Yi Ran, would you say you’re quite familiar with my dad?" Wu Jingjing’s voice was faint.

"Not as familiar as with you." Bai Yiran answered tactfully.

Wu Jingjing inwardly cursed her dad for being stupid, realizing that he didn’t even have as close a relationship with Aunt Yi Ran as she did!

"Sigh..." Wu Jingjing sighed.

"What’s the matter? Why sigh?"

Rolling her eyes, Wu Jingjing asked, "Aunt Yi Ran, do you know what kind of business my dad’s company actually does?"

Being asked just this, Bai Yiran was taken aback, paused, and then replied, "I think it’s import-export trade, right? What’s up?"

Wu Jingjing pouted, "Is import-export trade supposed to be so mysterious? Is it really that busy?"

"I guess so? Did you find out sothing?" Bai Yiran probed.

"No, I just overheard my dad talking about shipnts and transaction tis. I asked Chen Bei what my dad sells, but he wouldn’t tell . I’m a bit scared that my dad might be involved in selling bad stuff."

Bai Yiran’s expression turned serious, while she comforted Wu Jingjing, "Don’t overthink. Focus on your studies."

Feeling ignored because her mother’s attention wasn’t on her, Xiao Xi reached out with her little hand and began tugging on Bai Yiran’s clothes, while wailing.

"Aunt Yi Ran, is that your daughter?" Wu Jingjing asked.

"Mm, yes."

There was a brief silence, "I’m so envious... Aunt Yi Ran, did you know? I used to be so envious of Xiao Lang because he has such a good mom like you. Now, I’m especially envious of Xiao Xi, because she’s your biological daughter." Wu Jingjing’s voice began to choke up, "I know that coming to you often causes you a lot of trouble. But, I just can’t help but want to reach out to you, to talk to you. I want to be your daughter too..."

Bai Yiran could tell towards the end, Wu Jingjing was genuinely crying.

As a result, Bai Yiran also felt a bit uneasy. Ultimately, Wu Jingjing was just a child. Her mother passed away early, she suffered abuse while living with her aunt, and once back with her father, Wu Chengzu often neglected her.

In her lonely and helpless monts, it’s normal to want soone to confide in, to seek warmth. But she chose the wrong person, she chose Bai Yiran—soone who could never beco her mother.

Wu Chengzu has committed many cris and will surely face legal punishnt. But then, what will happen to Wu Jingjing?

At this mont, Bai Yiran’s hatred toward Wu Chengzu intensified. This selfish man, has he ever considered his only daughter?

Wu Jingjing wanted to continue talking to Bai Yiran, but the house door opened from outside, and Chen Bei led a middle-aged woman inside.

When Wu Jingjing saw Chen Bei, she hurriedly whispered, "Aunt Yi Ran, I’ll call you again later!"

After saying that, she hung up.

"Who were you talking to? You hung up as soon as you saw !" Chen Bei’s first instinct was Bai Yiran; he knew Wu Jingjing was in contact with her.

Wu Jingjing glared at him, "None of your business! Why are you here? This isn’t your ho!"

Chen Bei, frustrated, didn’t want to bicker with a child and pointed to the middle-aged woman behind him, "This is Aunt Ma. She’s going to be responsible for taking care of you full-ti. In the next few days, your dad will be going out of town and won’t have ti to take care of you. You need to behave and listen to Aunt Ma, don’t cause trouble!"

Wu Jingjing, irritated, retorted, "What Aunt Ma or Aunt Niu! What is my dad up to this ti? Is he not coming ho? Can’t he just tell directly or take with him?"

Unwilling to engage with Wu Jingjing, Chen Bei left with a curt, "You need to behave!" and then swung his arms as he exited.

Fuming, Wu Jingjing rampaged through the house, with Aunt Ma standing by, not stopping her—just letting her vent!

Such families were all too familiar to her; kids just needed to let off so steam.
