Bai Yiran looked at her phone, her heart in turmoil.
Wu Chengzu had never actively called her; their etings or calls were 90% due to Wu Jingjing, with only 10% being coincidental.
So now, looking at the incoming call display, Bai Yiran found it inexplicable.
"Mom, answer the call!" As Bai Yiran’s phone rang, distracting Xiao Lang from his cartoon, he frowned and told her.
"Oh, okay!"
Wu Chengzu didn’t seem inclined to hang up. After so thought, Bai Yiran finally answered the call, "Hello, Mr. Wu, what’s the matter?"
"Did I disturb you?"
"No." Bai Yiran glanced at the ti; it was just right, most families would have finished lunch by now.
"That’s good." Wu Chengzu’s voice was deep, "I’ve always thought that Yiran and I are considered friends, right?"
Wu Chengzu suddenly posed the question, leaving Bai Yiran a bit speechless, "Is sothing wrong with Jingjing?"
At this mont, Bai Yiran could only steer the conversation towards Wu Jingjing.
"No, Jingjing is fine, she just misses you a lot." There was a hint of emotion in Wu Chengzu’s voice.
"Then..." Bai Yiran wanted to ask why he was calling. She didn’t believe Wu Chengzu would call just for idle chat.
"I would like to invite you to dinner, tonight."
Bai Yiran was sowhat taken aback, "Dinner?"
"Yes, is that okay?" Wu Chengzu chuckled, "Can’t friends at least have a al together?"
Bai Yiran really disliked how Wu Chengzu used the term ’friends’ to pressure her; in fact, they were not friends at all and never would be!
However, Bai Yiran did not want to refuse this rare invitation from Wu Chengzu. She wanted to know what his intentions were, what he would say to her, and what she might gain from this encounter!
So Bai Yiran answered without hesitation, "Okay."
"Great!" Wu Chengzu’s voice lightened, seemingly surprised by Bai Yiran’s acceptance. After giving her the ti and place, they ended the call.
At this point, Bai Yiran could no longer stay calm. She imdiately called Leng Yichen to inform him of the situation and that she had agreed to it.
Upon learning about it, Leng Yichen imdiately lost his temper over the phone, but before he could say much more, another man snatched the phone away.
That man was Gao Sheng. Over the phone, Gao Sheng agreed with Bai Yiran’s decision and said he would arrange for police presence nearby. If Wu Chengzu showed any ill intentions toward Bai Yiran, the police would appear. As for Leng Yichen, Gao Sheng would handle convincing him.
Bai Yiran hadn’t expected Leng Yichen to be with Gao Sheng, but since things had turned out this way, she composed herself and prepared for the dinner with Wu Chengzu.
In fact, she dared to accept Wu Chengzu’s invitation, guessing he wouldn’t dare to do anything to her amidst this tumultuous ti. Leng Yichen knew this too; he only disagreed because of Wu Chengzu’s dirty thoughts about Bai Yiran.
In the evening, having settled everything at ho, Bai Yiran put on her clothes neatly and stepped out of her front door.
Two cars were parked outside. Seeing Bai Yiran co out, Leng Yichen walked over, his eyes filled with reproach but unable to utter any harsh words.
Finally, he just wrapped his arms around her and said, "Gao Sheng and I will be watching over you from a distance. Don’t be afraid, if anything happens, just run!"
"Okay." Bai Yiran obediently leaned into his embrace.
"Also, don’t let him take advantage of you!" This was the point Leng Yichen cared the most about.
Leng Yichen’s words dispelled Bai Yiran’s previously tense mood, and she replied with a smile, "Got it!"
Having said that, the two of them got into different cars, heading towards their destination with heavy hearts.
