As soon as he finished speaking, soone walked in from outside the door.

It was Daoist Ruyi.

She looked at Hong Yuan, who lay on the bed, eyes filled with sorrow and a hint of helplessness.

"Chang’sheng, your teacher—how is he?"

Lu Chang’sheng was about to tell her the truth, but suddenly recalled his father asking him to keep things quiet on his deathbed, and swallowed the words back down.

He wanted to see if, by using this opportunity, he could help his teacher and Daoist Ruyi finally get over their differences and co together.

So, he shook his head.

"dicine can’t save him."

Daoist Ruyi, knowing what Lu Chang’sheng was capable of, froze right there.

"Before Teacher passed out, he kept saying there was soone he worried about, wanted to look after her more in the future."

"He also said he feels deeply sorry to soone, but just can’t bring himself to say it out loud."

Lu Chang’sheng didn’t forget to patch up his lie as he went along.

After all, Daoist Ruyi couldn’t do anything to him anyway, so why not just make up so stuff?

What he didn’t expect was that, based on what he knew and what he improvised, his words hit a nerve in Daoist Ruyi’s heart.

She staggered to the bedside, tears falling like broken strings of pearls.

So people are just that stubborn—they have to wait until life and death are tearing them apart to finally wake up.

Lu Chang’sheng sighed softly in his heart.

By now, Daoist Ruyi was already lying on Hong Yuan’s chest, saying sweet nothings so mushy even Lu Chang’sheng was getting goosebumps.

People in love, their IQ drops fast.

That’s not just so nonsense.

In his last life, Lu Chang’sheng had a roommate who found this kind of clingy talk disgusting, always yelling, "These people in love must be nuts! What kind of crap are they saying? I’d never act like that."

Then, after he finally got with his crush, he spent every day clinging to his phone, saying the sa kind of cringe stuff, making everyone want to strangle him.

Lu Chang’sheng caught Long Fan’s eye—he was signaling everyone to leave, to give these two people, who’d misunderstood each other for most of their lives, so privacy.

But, Lu Chang’sheng shook his head.

What Long Fan was doing wasn’t wrong, but at this point, Lu Chang’sheng didn’t dare leave—if he wasn’t there keeping an eye out, and Hong Yuan really died for good, then the Longevity Pill would be useless too.

So, he found an excuse and said, "Master Ruyi, I’ve got a healing dicine here. Maybe it’ll give teacher a few more days."

Daoist Ruyi wiped away her tears and took it herself, channeling her True Qi to help Hong Yuan swallow it.

Seeing this, Lu Chang’sheng finally turned and left.

Half a day later, a confused Hong Yuan walked out with Daoist Ruyi supporting him.

"Master! You’re alright?"

"Master is awake! Master is awake!"

"Wuu, Master~"

······

When everyone saw Hong Yuan, the whole Hong Mansion was in an uproar—dozens rushed over and knelt before him.

Hong Yuan waved them off, then turned toward Long Fan and the other house stewards. "It’s just sothing Chang’sheng did with his treatnts. Maybe I’ll last three or five more days, that’s all."

Everyone’s excitent was doused like a bucket of cold water.

They went to speak to Lu Chang’sheng next, and got pretty much the sa answer.

"Judging by what we’re seeing, things are just about as Teacher guessed. He knows his body way better than I do." Lu Chang’sheng said, all solemn.

Long Fan and the rest left, disappointed.

They’d finally given up and started making arrangents for Hong Yuan’s passing.

anwhile, Hong Yuan was spending ti with Daoist Ruyi.

With only three to five days left, the two of them let go of all their worries, just holding onto each other as they wandered the courtyards of the mansion, reminiscing about the old days.

All the bad stuff faded away like clouds.

Only the best parts of life remained.

"The only thing I regret is that we figured things out too late. If only we could’ve had a child together," Hong Yuan said as he looked at Daoist Ruyi, full of sorrow.

The older you get, the more you cherish the next generation.

See them as a piece of yourself carrying on.

Daoist Ruyi cupped his cheeks in her hands, her tone full of regret.

The two of them kept walking, reminiscing about places they’d visited long ago, eventually leaving the mansion behind and strolling through their old haunts in Black Mountain Prefecture.

But soon enough, Hong Yuan started feeling sothing was off.

As a Martial Artist in the True Qi Realm, he noticed his body getting better day by day—not at his pri, but nowhere as awful as he’d been these past few years.

The always-observant Daoist Ruyi also picked up on sothing strange.

That night, the two of them found Lu Chang’sheng and asked him about it.

Lu Chang’sheng gave a guilty smile and said, "Sorry, Teacher, but what I gave you before wasn’t any ordinary dicine. It’s a Pill I refined—one that extends life."

As soon as he said that, Hong Yuan and Daoist Ruyi both went pale.
