The dark curtain across the border of the Eastern Continent shimred but on the south western side began to change.

A force of 1 million Divine Fiends erged and began construction. The barrier did not close but the opening narrowed. Materials flowed as dark tal, stone, and other resources were quickly brought out and refined in midair.

Over the course of a few months, a platform began to hover until a surge of the vile Fiend Qi flew over it. Space bent slightly but then quickly settled back into a stable arrangent.

The platform was quickly used as the foundation of a larger one. Power flowed into it and the barrier distended around it at last. The Fiends took a breath of relief as they infused their aura into the various formations.

The protrusion beca one of many. After nearly 50 of the platforms were completed, a resonance began to build.

Dark energies slowly stretched out and connected each one together before solidifying into hard crystals. The crystals fused into a base before the Fiend Qi flowed along it to protect it.

It began to slowly extend away from the barrier. The millions of Fiends looked on but tensed up as the Great One arrived.

His shadowy figure looked coldly at the slowly building bridge. He sighed as he had been pushed to that point.

[Well done. Continue to build the defenses at the pre-arranged points as the bridge reaches them. If you fail, you know the price.]

A collective shiver passed over them all but they got to work. The bridge would take years to complete. The Great One frowned but there was no way to ensure his victory.

The Eastern Continent was his yet that was not much of a victory. He had claid it long ago with his own effort. The Void Ocean cut him off from the other 3. His long held plans had been in place for the last billion years.

Too much ground had been lost but now he was ready to start the final moves. He knew Lind Frey expected him to simply fly out and consu the Divine Lands but he was not taking any more chances.

He had severely underestimated the changes in the current incarnation of Lind Frey. He was unlike any of the others he had studied. His harmony was far more devastating and did not react the way he was used to.

He had made too many assumptions and relied too much on his original self. Thus, the Great One chose a new path. He would leave no recourse and no more chances.

The Soul Bridge was a complex but simple structure. It would refine the living essence of the continent to extrude across the Void Ocean to his current target, the Southern Continent.

He had no doubt Lind Frey was working to trouble him again so he was going to cut off that hope as well.

The Northern Continent was useless to most races not aligned with water or ice. The Western Lant was just too little land mass even for the reduced numbers currently surviving the last attack.

If they lost the Southern Continent. It was over.

No matter what plans or tricks Lind Frey was working up to, he would crush them by tearing away the last real bastion.

The Great One finally sighed as it could not go any faster. That was the one facet both he and Lind Frey hated the sa. A lack of ti.

The more ti one side had, the more issues could potentially crop up.

As one front was now in place and solidly started, the Great One flew back. As he crossed the barrier, he saw the surface of the Eastern Continent full of black veins of Fiend Qi.

It was not organic right at the barrier but more artifacts. The farther out, however, the more broken up the landmass started to beco. The power flowing into the bridge would be retained by it for later consumption.

The Great One sneered as even Lind Frey could not break it as it was at his level. A peak Master Tier was not sothing that little dragon could yet contend with.

It would take at least half the Eastern Continent to reach the other shore. Once it reached a certain point, the speed would also increase. It was a matter of a handful of years.

In that sa ti, the enemy would notice what they were doing but fighting over the Void Ocean was not easy. Even the native races that lived in it had serious limits.

What was more, the Great One actually hoped for them to co. The true power of the Soul Bridge would remind them that all their little victories were nothing but a slight pause to the end.

He moved on as he went north. It was best to still plan for a reversal and he wanted all routes cut off for his enemies. No matter what happened, he was done playing with his food.

????????

Shoti was leading a scouting mission. Unlike most scouting missions, however, she was suprely unworried. They were far above the clouds where no one could reach them in the only ship that could do it.

Lind had loaned it out as such a resource was best used to spy on the enemy periodically. In the last few years, so had beco complacent since there had been no changes.

She wanted to smack them with her whips! No matter how effective their counterattack and escape had been, the fact remained that more than a third of all life had been consud by the Fiends!

It had happened almost overnight. If not for Lind's preparations, over half would have been gone!

Such power was not to be taken lightly no matter how much they had defeated them later.

The ascension pools were closely monitored but there was only so many people to go around. The Eastern Continent was also totally lost to them.

She stroked her short green hair and felt an ill on in her gut. Her thoughts seed to summon the report that was brought by a young man from the rear console of the control room.

"Lady Shoti, there is a structure." She quickly pushed her palm on the left arm rest. A set of crystals lit up and projected the dark border that surrounded what was once her ho.

Now, on the southwestern side, was a dark bridge extending slowly outward towards the Southern Continent! The absurd distance should have made such a feat impossible but that was why they were in the current ship.

They crossed the barrier and the devastation she saw froze her heart. The control room beca dead silent as all brought it up on their monitors.

"Record this and reverse course. Full speed and burn all the reserves." Her voice snapped them out of it.

They obeyed and the hull groaned as the engines roared to full strength. Shoti never looked away.

As she looked down she could feel it. A pair of white eyes surrounded in shadows was looking up at them.

The Great One knew. He did not care. She felt a chill down her spine and it had nothing to do with her gut.

She had felt the touch of Fiend techniques before. By a miracle, she had been saved but that sensation of being drawn out of body had never left her.

"Should we attack the bridge?" A woman with bright fiery hair spoke up. A phoenix if she was not mistaken. Shoti glared at her.

A quick manipulation of the controls put an overlay of the dark material of the bridge. The readings that ca back made all go pale.

{Fiend crystal fused with lifeforce. High absorption rate detected. Any living thing not a Fiend will be ripped into it instantly.}

How the database in the ship knew that, Shoti did not know, but she had only to see it to know only a fate worse than death awaited any attacking that bridge.

They could not stop it. Anyone that touched it was just going to fuel it even more.

The hope in the crew died. She could see it but hers did not. She knew 1 being that could affect that bridge. Only 1.

The issue was the millions of Divine Fiends infesting it. Even Lind could not kill them all or hold them off. His harmony would take ti to eat at them and it was more than enough for the Great One to strike.

Still, she held hope. The fact a ship he built could identify the material at least gave her the knowledge that Lind was aware of it. If he had even a piece of knowledge, he should be already working on counterasures or ways to thwart its use.

Yet, a shadow lood in her heart. The Eastern Continent was being consud. It was literally being chewed up to make a hard connection that if it touched the Southern Continent, it would be the end.

The deadline of their confrontation was now known. The bridge was the deadline. If it was completed, they would lose. Even she could see it. The Western Lant was not viable for the numbers they had and the Northern Continent was too conspicuous to be safe.

The Great One really was a bastard. In one move, he had a knife back at their throats and limited ways to resist. The only reason he moved now was because he was ready.

Shoti clung to her hope in her heart. A man with reptilian erald eyes lived there and he was all she had left to cling to.
