Chapter 78: Chapter 28. Trying is not torture

In the company of a suspicious man whom I happened to et on the street, we eventually ca to a small pub. I glanced at the sign hanging on the small building: "At the Broker’s."

The regulars who entered it also did not inspire much confidence. So when we got there, I already had a plan ready.

First of all, I had to escape from here, and then I had to find a cab driver who was willing to take

outside of the Heilos lands for a fee. And then everything would be quite simple. Compared to getting out of the residence of the main villain, getting to the capital would be no problem.

So, after a quick glance around, I awkwardly cleared my throat:

— Uh... I have to go to the bathroom.

Hearing my words, the bandit only shook his head slightly, not paying much attention to them. His gaze was fixed on the other side of the pub.

It looks like he t soone he knows, and his attention shifted away from

for a while. It was very convenient.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, I quickly went up to the second floor of the building. Fortunately, there was no one else in the bathroom but . I was about to pull back the curtain to use it to go downstairs, but at that mont I heard furious breathing behind .

"Hey! What are you doing?!"

Oh, I think it’s ti to run.

I didn’t expect the bandit to co back so soon.

I was going to imdiately descend by an improvised rope, but I didn’t have ti, because the bandit was next to

in the blink of an eye. He grabbed the rope I was holding onto and pulled it back. In the end, I had no choice but to let her go.

It really was an ergency.

I hope I won’t break anything.

I was hurtling down, intending to et my soft spot with the ground, but suddenly it didn’t happen. It felt like soone had caught . Lifting my head, I suddenly found myself in Jacob’s strong arms.

— Forgive , my lady, — he said in a hoarse voice.

I stared at him in surprise for a few monts, unable to believe that I was actually seeing this. A strange expression appeared on the knight’s face, and he awkwardly averted his gaze as soon as I looked at him.

Obviously, Jacob Osman and his partner abandoned . So why on earth did they suddenly co back?! There was no limit to my inner indignation at that mont.

Then I heard a soft moan from above.

The bandit who brought

here fell down with his throat slit. And from the second-floor window, I saw Mag waving at

with a happy smile.

??...??

I couldn’t find the words.

"No, really. What the hell are you two doing here?!"

Because of these guys, my escape plan went to waste. In the end, apart from the fact that I almost broke my neck, but I almost succeeded! However... However, as always, heaven was not on my side again.

The next mont, Jacob gently set

down on the ground. Mag then jumped down from the second floor of the pub.

At that mont, there was a strange pause between us. The circumstances of the incident were obvious to all of us. And yet... No one dared to speak about it out loud. So in the end, Jacob just said:

— My Lady, let’s go back to the castle.

??...??

I sighed heavily. I had no choice but to follow them.

anwhile, this situation has attracted a lot of attention among passersby. After all, the bandit’s body was still lying almost in front of the pub’s entrance, and this eerie sight was clearly not sothing that could be seen every day, even in a place like the Heilos lands.

At this ti, a silhouette flashed among the crowd of passers-by and onlookers. Only his blue hair showed for a mont from under the dark hood.

The way back to the residence of the main villain was filled with suffocating silence. Or rather, it seed so to . I kept looking at Jacob’s face, trying to figure out what he was thinking. But the knight remained silent, and his expression remained sowhat sullen.

So, I already knew that his attitude towards

wasn’t too good. In the end, this man even decided to leave

in the middle of the street, without showing the slightest concern for my future well-being. And, apparently, this decision was precisely Jacob’s initiative.

Mag, on the other hand, simply walked with his head bowed, and did not look too much like a person who would so easily decide on such a treacherous step.

However, I couldn’t figure out why the villainess’ subordinate suddenly changed his mind. Did he suddenly have a conscience? Although I really doubted it. Then what could be the real reason?

Anyway, thinking about all this, I didn’t imdiately notice that we had already returned quite quickly. The main courtyard was quite lively. And soon I realized the reason for this.

— Oh, Your Highness, you’ve already returned...! — at this mont, Mag nervously swallowed his saliva, as if trying to suppress his inner excitent.

At the sa mont, I also looked in that direction. The Crown Princess had indeed already returned to her residence, and from the looks of it, it was just before we returned from our walk. A pair of golden eyes instantly focused on .

— Camille!

Before I knew it, I was trapped in soone else’s arms.

— Your Highness, you really ca back quickly... — I mumbled uncertainly.

— of course. How could I leave my fiancee alone for so long?

??.....??

— How... How was your trip? — I hesitated, — Were you able to solve your problem?

— Oh, you don’t have to worry about that. Everything went more than smoothly, — Kaena smiled, continuing to hold the girl close to her.

The mont the villainess finally loosened her grip and I was free, a puzzled expression appeared on her face.

— Just now... Where did you go?
