Shaking his head, Du You activated his wristwatch to record the information on this notebook. He couldn’t keep the notebook for himself. It was just as well, since the notebook had been made of nothing special.

Suddenly, Du You noticed his Death Scorpion, which had been by his side all along. The scorpion was poised, with its claws raised, waiting for his command.

The last item in the chest was taken out. Du You picked it up, and found it to be a cross.

Protective Cross: Withstand one lethal attack, with a damage cap of 10 10 (Bright white, 1/2)

This was beyond expectation. The Protective Cross could withstand any type of lethal attack. With a damage cap of 10 10, it had the equivalent defensive capability of the tortoise shell he had encountered previously – but this cross was more comprehensive. As long as it wasn’t a second-tier attack, the cross was pretty much able to ward off anything.

Considering even a second-tier attack, Du You calculated that it would be hard for a level-13 attack to break through this defence.

"Only one use is left. It makes sense how this person managed to get so far...perhaps it had sothing to do with this cross."

Du You knew that most operatives in his town were tier-one. There were only a few occasions of tier-two operatives, and even fewer were tier-three operatives, given that his town was a small one.

Even compared to the might of White Stone City, the overall strength of his own town did not seem to be vastly superior.

But regardless, the Protective Cross was a valuable item. Without any hesitation, Du You equipped it onto his body – with its ability to shield him from an accident, his error tolerance would improve.

Du You did not leave imdiately. Instead, he recalled his Death Scorpion and cast a Mucus Swamp spell, covering the decaying corpse. In no ti, the corrosion effect of the Mucus Swamp dissolved the body completely.

Nothing was left but the bones – no clothing or flesh. Once washed away by dirty water, no one would be able to tell where these broken bones had co from.

Next, Du You threw the notebook and the chest into the swamp. As expected, since neither was made of any special material, they were quickly corroded away.

Having cleaned up the place, Du You turned to leave. He couldn’t afford to linger here any longer.

Along the way, Du You saw quite a few dead cats, dogs, and other animals splayed on the ground. Perhaps their bodies were still alive, but they were essentially brain-dead.

If they could not eat, they would die within a couple of days. Du You didn’t bother dealing with these mutation creatures, instead, he simply walked along the path he had created.

Upon reaching the end, Du You found that part of the Mucus Swamp had disappeared with ti. However, stinky water was left where the swarm had been – the corrossive residue of the trash it had consud, which was quite unbearable.

Conveniently casting a few more Mucus Swamps, Du You treaded on the sli on top of the swamps and ran all the way back.

He quickly reached the second layer. Although the path was narrower, it was nonetheless smoother to walk on.

"Eh, how are there still living creatures here?" Du You was taken aback when he saw a rat scrurrying past him with a terrified look. But the animals that resided on the second layed died after the control had been lifted on them. Perhaps the animals from the first layer had not yet fully lost their consciousness, hence they were still able to survive.

To hell with all that, he should head ho quickly. Du You quickly retraced his steps by following the map on his wristwatch. It had taken him a few hours to get there, but returning took less than half an hour.

By the ti Du You reached the sewer exit again, it was already dark outside.

Never mind that, he needed to get rid of his clothes. Du You removed the headgear and gas mask and threw them on the ground. "This is atrocious, how can you stand this sll! I will definitely have to take a shower when I get ho."

As he took off the gas mask, the stench from his own suit made him nearly retch. He rapidly stripped off the protective suit and tossed it aside. In spite of this, whether it was in his head or not, Du You still felt the sll was clinging to him.

He decided to take off his jacket as well and threw it to the ground.

With a wave of his hand, he released a Fire Snake curse. The Fire Snake flashed briefly before vanishing, leaving no trace. But the force of the fire remained undiminished, incinerating the clothes in an instant.

This tiny alley was rarely walked upon, which made it a safe place to torch his clothes without being discovered.

In less than five minutes, all of his clothes had been reduced to ashes, leaving nothing behind. Du You casually picked up a shabby broom and cleaned up all traces. Even if anyone should find their way here, they would find nothing of note.

Du You couldn’t be blad for his caution – the Mayor was involved in these affairs. Du You did not wish to be found out by the Mayor due to negligence. Feeling slightly paranoid, he quickly left the area, activating his disguise and heading for his temporary residence.

But what Du You didn’t expect was how lively the streets were.

n and won carrying tools were running about in the streets and narrow alleys. Many of them wore Urban Managent arm sleeves.

"What the hell is going on, why is it so chaotic?" he wondered aloud.

A sweeping lady nearby overheard him and promptly stopped to explain, "You must have not been out today. Let tell you, so weird shit happened around here. Today, God knows why but a multitude of stray cats and dogs just erged, running all around. And the stench! Slls as if they just crawled out of a sewer."

"Oh, and also there was an overwhelming number of rats and other animals. We don’t know where they ca from. They left our streets stinking, and many residents complained about it. This is why the urban managent personnel are out and about."

Du You’s eyes twitched. He knew that this was likely his doing. After killing the Seaweed Monster, seemingly all surviving animals fled, and in a state of panic, at that.

It wasn’t just reminiscent of animals coming out of the sewers. They did co out from the sewers. He could only hope this wouldn’t link back to him.

"In such a big incident, didn’t the superiors say anything?" Du You asked, keeping a calm deanor.

"The higher-ups? With sothing so trivial, why would they bother? It’s a petty issue, not so monstrous threat or illegal organization, and there were no powerful Professionals involved. This type of thing wouldn’t even alert street security."
