It must be said, Lao Er’s strength and stamina are indeed exceptional. Lao Da and Du You each carried only ten sets of armor, while the remaining thirty sets were hauled by Lao Er in a cart.
With that much weighty stuff, the return trip took them several tis longer than the journey out. By the ti they got back to the city, evening shadows were drawing on.
"God, these are your spoils of war! Did you guys ambush the people of Wood Shield City?"
The city guard soldiers were stunned. Likewise, the students given patrol and guard duties, on seeing their loot, were also full of surprise, as they’d only been out for a day.
"Don’t jump to conclusions, even if we ran there at full speed, we’d barely make it to Wood Shield City in a day. And besides, there are no marks of Wood Shield City on the armor."
"True, there are no markings, but who else could craft such armor except for Wood Shield City, unless it’s us."
"They’re amazing. This is quite a haul for just the first day." The students were equally impressed.
"It’s simply incomparable. I heard other Awakeners didn’t perform as well."
"Du You is touted as the most promising among the Awakeners and on top of that, he is a Spellcaster. I’ve heard the Spellcaster profession is quite formidable." Everyone envied and jealously eyed Du You.
But it’s just jealousy, since they were only Semi-Awakened; their status was a rung lower.
"These spoils are from eliminating bandits, we found a lot of crucial evidence, we need to et with the City Lord imdiately." Lao Da spoke without hesitation. The so-called City Lord is the city’s governor.
The city guards hesitated; it would be strange if the City Lord was readily available for an audience.
After a while, a soldier squad leader ca over and said, "With your status, eting the City Lord is impossible, however, I can take you to et General Luo Ha. Follow ."
Lao Da nodded slightly, he wasn’t actually expecting to et the City Lord just yet.
General Luo Ha was one of the four great generals guarding Border City, a top-tier figure under the City Lord. Having a eting with him was quite a tough break. Soon they arrived at a military camp.
As soon as they arrived, a big bearded man ca out,"It’s you who wanted to see ? You found sothing? Speak up now." Luo Ha stood with a domineering aura that emanated from his body. Seeing the emblems on Luo Ha’s armor hood, Du You’s eyes shone bright.
This was yet another Heavily Ard Warrior, and at Level 6, a full two levels above the one Du You had slain.
Against Luo Ha, Du You felt that even at his pri he was still not an opponent to reckon with.
"Here’s so information we found, revealing secret dealings between Wood Shield City and the Beastman City. If this continues, our Border City might be in grave danger", Lao Da said as he brought out and opened the box containing their collected evidence.
A figure of Level 6 couldn’t possibly be imposters, they must be significant figures of Border City. Also, given Lao Da’s character, he should have researched these big shots thoroughly.
General Luo Ha opened the box without hesitation, undaunted by any traps that may lie inside. Glancing inside he saw letters and the armor and weapons they brought back. With every passing second, Luo Ha’s face turned darker. "Damn Wood Shield City, those selfish bastards blinded by profit, disregarding the threat to mankind for their own good."
Luo Ha slamd his fist on the stone table in front of him, shattering it to pieces. This imnse strength of Luo Ha, is far beyond Lao Da’s capacity. "You’ve done excellent work, this is a significant contribution, and I will take note of this."
After thinking for a mont, Luo Ha said sothing to his deputy, then to them, "This is your war spoil, you can either keep it for yourselves or you can turn in. If you turn it in, you will receive an equivalent rank incrent; it’s already been noted down. You can use your rank points to exchange for position or whatever you want."
The deputy made a gesture with his hand for them to follow, Old Da gently nodded at the other two, and then they went on with the deputy.
It was the sa Military Honor Hall as before, it was connected to the Mission Hall. Rank points were taken note of, not on a point-by-point basis, but as a whole, necessitating careful calculation.
"What do you choose, you can choose now. My target is the administrator role, I plan on starting from the inside. With the current military honor, I can land the position of a team strategist."
Although not sure what Lao Da was planning, this role should be suitable for a scholar’s abilities.
Lao Er, without a second thought, said, "I’ll take this, the deputy captain of a hundred-man team. According to the hierarchy, I can lead thirty people in battle. I’ll clean up the Half-Beastn in the rear."
Lao Er always loved battles, cleaning up with a team is more appropriate than going with classmates. As these soldiers were more disciplined, combining their strength would yield stronger battle formations. Most importantly, this way most honor from the kills belonged to him, not to be divided with classmates.
It seed that these two had made up their minds early on. Du You himself, however, did not plan on participating in the regint’s internal affairs, since he didn’t think he could make much of a difference. Cleaning up Half-Beastn in the rear wasn’t appealing to Du You either.
Simply because there were too many people fighting over those Half-Beastn, Du You didn’t think he could compete against so many people. Moreover, most of the ti was spent trying to locate them, even more wasteful.
The most crucial point was, with his exceptional combat strength, he could take on even tougher tasks.
"I’ll continue to take on missions, eradicating nearby bandit groups seems suitable for ."
"If that’s the case, I’ll help contact them right away." Lao Da seed to have an idea.
The positions for all three of them were announced shortly after. The three also received badges representing their military honors, a symbol of honor in the military. Of course, for them it was not of much use, but they did find it comforting.
As Du You didn’t redeem anything with his military honor, it was recorded for future use. Du You also got an honorary small team leader position. Though it didn’t hold any real power, it symbolized a military rank of sorts.
"Let’s go, it’s getting late. Let’s rest tonight and continue tomorrow." Lao Da motioned, leading the two away from the place. With their military honor, they no longer needed to stay in the shared dormitory; they now had their private rooms.
