Yolanda Greenwood’s social circle had always been small, particularly in the year she got married; she only called Lola Gold a few tis.

Who would want to hurt her?

The only person she could think of who might want to harm her was one of lissa Greenwood’s friends.

On the day of the welco banquet, Yolanda took a few photos that included them. She pointed them out one by one to Joy Bennett, but Joy shook her head in denial each ti.

Finally, Yolanda produced a photo of lissa Greenwood, looking uncertainly at Joy, "What about this one?"

There was a clear change on Joy’s face, but she quickly shook her head, "That woman was wearing sunglasses at the ti, I didn’t get a good look at her face."

Yolanda noticed that Joy glanced at lissa’s photo several tis.

This was too strange.

But lissa had no reason to harm her.

Seeing her spacing out, Joy hurriedly got up and fled.

From a distance, she reminded Yolanda, "The other side is rich and powerful, you can’t go up against them, just resign quietly."

Yolanda watched her disappear thoughtfully.

Picking up her phone, her heart skipped inexplicably when she saw lissa’s photo again.

It couldn’t be.

There was no reason.

She fiddled with her phone again; when she had confronted Joy earlier, she had secretly recorded the audio.

With the recording, she could prove she was being frad.

Her first impulse was to send the recording to lissa, but she quickly changed her mind.

She decided to go find Jenny Reyes instead.

Missing her work hours, she waited outside the company until everyone left, finally catching sight of Jenny.

"What are you doing here again?" Jenny glared at her, quickening her step.

"Manager Reyes, about yesterday’s incident, I was frad." Yolanda hurried after her, "I have a recording here, you can listen to it."

"Not interested." Jenny walked even faster.

Yolanda didn’t give up, continuing to chase her, "Manager Reyes, haven’t you ever doubted Joy? She’s clearly not rich; soone must have bribed her."

Jenny stopped in her tracks.

Could it be Joy wasn’t nouveau riche?

"This morning, I saw her dressed very plain, hailing a cab on the road, so I found it odd and followed her."

"And she actually lives in a rundown neighborhood, definitely not rich."

Yolanda handed over her phone, "I secretly recorded this while confronting her."

Skeptically, Jenny took the phone and listened to the recording.

She found it unbelievable, "Could this recording be a fake?"

Yolanda was just a fledgling Painter; why would anyone go to such lengths to harm her?

"Manager Reyes, I know you have a bias against , but I swear I’ve never copied anyone’s work, not ever."

Jenny laughed dismissively, "Yolanda, do you think I’m a fool?"

Yolanda knew she was referring to the work she had brought to her interview; she had promised lissa to keep it secret, so she offered no explanation.

"Fine, I will report this to the higher-ups." Jenny handed the phone back to Yolanda, "You go back and wait for news."

Yolanda was thrilled, "Thank you, Manager Reyes."

"Oh, Manager Reyes," she called out to Jenny again, "has Director Greenwood returned?"

"lissa Greenwood?" Jenny frowned slightly, "She just got back this morning."

A thought suddenly struck her, "Yolanda, you’re not suspecting Director Greenwood of trying to harm you, are you?"

Yolanda quickly shook her head, "Of course not."

"That’s good because without Director Greenwood, you would have been thrown out a long ti ago." Jenny strode off.

Joy’s reaction to the photo was indeed suspicious, and linking together recent events, Yolanda felt as if there were so invisible force at play.

Back ho, Yolanda recounted everything to Lola.

"I’ve always said that lissa was no good!" Lola fud.

Yolanda’s mind was a ss, "Lola, I don’t know either, but Joy’s reaction to that photo..."

"Alright, Yolanda, stop thinking about it for now, let’s wait for the news." Lola knew that suspecting lissa was torture for Yolanda in itself.

The next day at noon, lissa called.

"Congratulations, Yolanda, the matter is settled, you can co back to work."

"Really?" Yolanda was overjoyed, "Thank you, cousin."

"I didn’t really do much; it was all thanks to that recording you found."

lissa surprisingly brought up the recording on her own.

"Didn’t she confess who was trying to harm you?" lissa said indignantly, "Yolanda, this afternoon, let cousin take you to see Joy again."

"What?" Yolanda felt increasingly guilty for doubting lissa.

"That’s settled, then; wait for at ho."

Yolanda quickly declined, "No need, that neighborhood is so large, I don’t know which house she lives in, and now that it’s out in the open, she’s probably moved out overnight."

"Sigh," lissa sighed, "You should have called the police right away."

"For private matters like this, calling the police probably wouldn’t help," Yolanda said with a wry smile, thanking lissa profusely before hanging up.

She was deeply ashad, "Lola, was I too petty?"

"Maybe too many things have happened recently; you’ve beco overly sensitive." Lola stroked Yolanda’s head.

Lola also knew another possibility: lissa was very cunning.

She warned Yolanda one last ti, "Regardless, when you go back to work, you have to be extra careful."

The next day, Yolanda returned to work.

Jenny’s attitude toward her softened slightly, and she even gave her a few small assignnts.

Yolanda executed all of them flawlessly, earning everyone’s renewed respect.

That day, Jenny took the initiative to introduce her to a client, "Miss White is a big opportunity for us but very picky. We’ve handled a few of her requests but could never fully satisfy her."

Yolanda nodded, "I’ll do my best."

But upon opening the VIP room door, Yolanda’s face fell.

Miss White turned out to be Athena White, lissa’s friend.

"So this is your legendary up-and-coming star?" Athena also saw Yolanda.

Arms crossed, her face disdainful, "One who loves to drug n to climb into their beds? Not even sparing her own cousin’s husband!"

As she picked up her purse to leave, she said, "I can’t believe I entered such a company, it dirties my shoes."

When she passed by Yolanda, she paused. "Yolanda, are you so cheap, drugging your own husband? How unsatisfied must you be!"

The door to the VIP room was open, and everyone heard Athena’s words.

"Cousin’s husband? Isn’t Yolanda’s cousin Director Greenwood?"

"Yolanda slept with her own cousin’s husband? Is that for real?"

"She got into our company all thanks to Director Greenwood. Director Greenwood is too kind."

"Even drugging her own husband... geez, the things young people do these days."

...

The chatter swelled, with increasingly indecent speculation.
