He imdiately sent a ssage to Lucy Rhodes.
[If you want to betray , then give back the money I gave you.]
When Lucy saw the ssage, she instantly backed down, grinned, and said, "Bro, I was just joking. I’m not talking to you anymore, we’re going to play now."
After she finished, she put her phone in her bag. Just as she was about to walk over to Chloe and the others, soone grabbed her backpack.
Lucy turned around and saw Jett Sterling smirking at her.
"Jett, why are you pulling ? I want to ride the carousel."
Jett gave an evil grin, "Reporting back to your brother? Taking videos and sending voice ssages—you’re pretty professional, huh."
"Mind your own business."
"I recorded everything you just said to your brother. What do you think Chloe would say if I send it to her? The little accomplice helping your brother poach people?"
Hearing this, Lucy stomped her foot in anger.
"Jett, delete it right now! Otherwise, I’m not done with you."
"If you want to delete it, sure, but you’ll have to take Chloe with you on the carousel."
"Why should I listen to you?"
"Because I have your evidence."
The Sterling and Prescott families had been at odds for years, and Lucy knew Jett could never be a good guy. If her brother was sneakily bad, then Jett was blatantly bad, written all over his face.
He never hid anything he did, whether it was good or bad.
With dirt on her in his hands, Lucy had no choice but to give in. "Fine, I promise."
She agreed, but that didn’t an she wasn’t annoyed.
She shot Jett a glare, then walked towards Chloe.
"Dr. Nash, let’s go take pictures on the carousel, it’ll look amazing in photos."
Chloe wanted to slip away, but Lucy dragged her up.
The two kids followed along, bouncing after them.
"We want to take pictures with Mommy too!"
One after another, everyone got on. Jett opened up his cara and zood in on Chloe.
Because he rembered Chloe gets dizzy from heights, even riding the carousel made her head spin.
He wanted to see how this Chloe would react.
The music started, and the carousel began to turn.
Chloe’s face imdiately showed a flash of tension.
She gripped the handrail tightly and closed her eyes.
Only when Lucy dragged her to take photos did she barely open her eyes.
Seeing this, Jett couldn’t help but sneer to himself.
He must be crazy, thinking this person wasn’t the Chloe he knew.
From the mont Chloe got on the carousel, she saw Jett filming her on his phone.
Whether it was her or Lucy, they both ca here with an agenda.
She absolutely couldn’t slip up, or everything would be lost.
When she got off the carousel, Chloe was so dizzy she wobbled while walking. Albie Kane hurried over and steadied her arm.
His voice was gentle, "Feeling dizzy? Let help you sit down and rest."
Julian Prescott stared with wide, curious eyes. "Mommy’s scared?"
Fries imdiately rembered what Mommy told him and nodded hard, "Uh-huh, Mommy is afraid of heights, she never dares to ride these kinds of thrilling rides."
Hearing that, Julian quickly pulled out a prune from his backpack and handed it to Chloe’s lips.
"Mommy, eat this."
They had all-inclusive tickets, so by five o’clock, they’d played every ride.
The two kids were so tired, they’d already fallen asleep in the car.
Chloe was also a bit exhausted, leaning back with her eyes closed.
Albie moved quietly closer, helped her adjust the seat so she’d be more comfortable, and, worried about the air conditioning, took off his jacket and laid it over her.
Jett watched this scene through the rearview mirror, his chest swelling with jealousy that he couldn’t suppress.
He had to admit, Albie treated Chloe really well.
A textbook protective husband.
Treating Chloe completely differently from the way he did.
He and Chloe liked to bicker—full of love-hate drama.
He loved to tease her with sharp words until she got mad, then try all sorts of ways to make up for it.
Chloe was never outdone in a war of words.
Even in bed, she wouldn’t back down.
No matter how exhausted she was by the end of it, her mouth was still no softer.
Jett would often whisper in her ear, "Babe, your mouth is the only thing that stays hard—all the rest of you’s soft as water."
Thinking about all this, Jett’s throat grew tight and sore.
He slowly closed his eyes, refusing to let those emotions show on his face.
The car pulled up in front of a restaurant and stopped.
Jett squinted. "Why are we stopping here?"
The driver nodded politely. "President Prescott arranged dinner here. He invites everyone to co in."
Jett couldn’t help but remark, "A weasel paying respects to the chickens—definitely up to no good."
When they got to the private room, he imdiately saw Silas Prescott waiting for them.
He smiled and walked over, "President Prescott, you not only organized the outing but the dinner too—pretty thorough, huh."
Silas smiled warmly, "Dr. Nash saved my grandfather and agreed to treat Julian. It’s the least I can do to show her family so hospitality."
Jett scoffed, "You say all the right things, but don’t think I don’t know what you’re really plotting. Sending soone to spy and tattle for you behind our backs."
"Since you know, don’t get in the way—or I won’t go easy on you."
"When have I ever been scared of you? We’ve always been neck and neck in fights since we were kids."
As the two of them argued, Albie walked in with Chloe.
His hand was still at Chloe’s waist, his jacket around her shoulders.
His expression was all gentle, perfect-husband vibes.
Watching this, a dark, dangerous glint flashed in Silas’s eyes.
But it vanished in an instant.
Soon, he stepped forward with a warm smile.
He ruffled Fries’s hair. "Did you have fun?"
Fries nodded again and again, "Yes, thank you, Uncle!"
"You’re welco. Next ti I’ll take you to the zoo to see the tigers."
Hearing that, the two kids clapped excitedly. "Yay, yay, I want to feed the deer!"
"Alright, go wash your hands. We’ll eat soon."
Silas nodded at Albie, "This place is known for its local cuisine. Since it’s not often you’re back, Mr. Kane, you should enjoy so hotown specialties."
Albie nodded politely, "Mr. Prescott, you’ve done too much. Next ti, dinner’s on ."
He looked at Chloe with a gentle gaze, "Here, give this to . Didn’t you keep saying you needed the bathroom? Go now."
He spoke with such teasing intimacy—it was the kind of thing only couples with years together could say.
Chloe handed him the plushie, reminding him seriously, "Take good care of it—after all, you worked hard to win this for ."
Albie smiled, "Don’t you trust yet?"
Watching their lovey-dovey act, Silas’s fingers curled involuntarily at his side.
But his face remained refined. "How did you win that bunny, Mr. Kane?"
Albie stroked the bunny’s ear gently, as if caressing Chloe’s head.
"This is Chloe’s favorite plush series. There are seven in total—she already has six at ho. This was the last one. Today I saw it at the park, but you had to win it by shooting. So I got it for her."
Silas smiled subtly, "Your shooting skills seem impressive, Mr. Kane. We should have a contest soti."
As they chatted, the waiter brought in food.
The house specialty—spicy dry pot duck heads—was steaming and fragrant.
Silas glanced at the bunny in Albie’s hands.
His lips couldn’t help but twitch.
