Jett sat on the sofa, hugging that diary tightly in his arms.
He could still feel Chloe’s warmth lingering on it.
Every sentence in the diary had everything to do with him.
So, all those dreams he’d had over the past five years were real. While he was missing Chloe, she was thinking of him too.
He just never expected that their reunion would happen like this.
Jett’s cold fingertips gently traced over Chloe’s diary, his voice hoarse to the extre.
"Chloe, what should I do to see you again?"
Just as his heart ached beyond words, the doorbell rang.
He put the diary on the coffee table and walked over to open the door.
Standing outside was his childhood friend—the one the Sterling Family had picked as his fiancée—Kate Winslow.
Jett looked at her coldly. "Why are you here?"
Kate saw that Jett’s face was pale, he looked exhausted, and he reeked of alcohol.
She said with concern, "I heard Uncle Sterling beat you, so I ca to check on you. Jett, let see your injuries."
She tried to check his wounds, but he pushed her away without rcy.
"Stay out of my business."
Being so heartlessly rejected, Kate’s eyes instantly filled with tears. "Jett, why are you always so cold to ? Can’t you see I’ve always liked you? How am I not as good as Chloe? So many years have passed—why can’t you get over her?"
When he heard that, fire flashed in Jett’s already bloodshot eyes.
He sneered coldly, "Don’t you dare compare yourself to her. You’re not even close."
Then, with a bang, he slamd the door shut.
Kate was left at the door, fuming and stomping her feet.
No matter how hard she banged on the door, Jett ignored her completely.
Resentful, she headed downstairs.
Stella Sterling noticed her stormy expression and red, swollen eyes, and rushed over with concern: "Kate, what happened?"
Kate complained, "I wanted to help your brother with his wounds, but he kicked out! He even said I’m no match for Chloe. Stella, we grew up together! You know how much I like your brother. You have to help ."
A flash of malice passed through Stella’s eyes. "Kate, my brother has done everything for Chloe. Not only did he join forces with Silas to get my mom locked up in The Serpentarium, he even talked back to my dad. As long as Chloe’s around, there’s no way he’ll ever be with you."
"That bitch Chloe—back then she stole Jett from , and I’ll never let her win again."
"But my brother still seems to like her. Even knowing she’s married and has a kid, he keeps thinking about getting her back. Is there any way to make him give up?"
Kate’s eyes turned icy. "Don’t worry, this ti I’ll make sure Chloe is ruined for good."
She leaned in close and murmured a few words into Stella’s ear.
Hearing this, Stella’s lips curled with satisfaction.
Once Chloe’s out of the way, she’ll not only get Brother Silas, she’ll also keep her away from Jett for good.
Saturday.
Early in the morning, Jett ca to pick up Chloe, and just happened to run into Silas Prescott, who’d co to pick up Julian.
Jett smirked, looking a bit roguish. "Chloe and I are going to the school’s anniversary events all day. We’ve even been invited to join a debate match with the underclassn. So, sorry, you’ll have to look after your kid yourself."
But Silas didn’t get upset—he just smiled and looked at him warmly. "Chloe already told . Back in school, she was always targeted for being too outstanding, so President Sterling, please take care of her and don’t let anyone bully her."
He spoke politely and humbly, as if Chloe was already his.
Jett snorted. "And who do you think you are, telling to take care of her? After all, I’m her ex-boyfriend. You’re nothing—what right do you have to talk to like this?"
"She’s the mother of my son. Of course, I’ll take care of her." Silas replied calmly.
Chloe had just co downstairs and saw the two n at each other’s throats.
She hurried over with Julian to Silas’s side. "Julian’s already had breakfast and milk. Around ten, just give him so fruit. He’s a bit overheated lately, so keep his lunch light."
Silas nodded gently. "Okay, got it. You’ve finally got a chance to reconnect with your classmates. Go and enjoy yourself. Don’t worry about him. I’ll pick you up after dinner."
"No need—I’m not sure when it’ll end. I’ll just grab a taxi ho."
Silas bent down and whispered softly into Chloe’s ear, "Alright, whatever you say."
His voice was deep and raspy with the morning, sending shivers all the way to Chloe’s eardrums.
She backed away quickly, blushing fiercely. "I’m heading out now. You two should get in the car."
She waved to Julian and climbed into Jett’s car.
Of course Jett had seen Silas’s little trick just now, trying to provoke him with that move.
He put on his sunglasses and flashed an arrogant grin at Silas, the swagger thick in his tone.
"We’re off to the reunion! President Prescott, you and your son have fun."
Then he floored it and sped off.
Once they’d gone, Julian glared at Silas.
"Daddy, soone stole Mommy. You’re dumb."
Silas ruffled his hair, smiling. "Go play with Auntie. Daddy will win Mommy back for you."
Julian clapped excitedly. "Go, Daddy, go!"
In Jett’s car, Chloe carefully looked over the folders he’d put together for her.
"This is Sean Sawyer—he’s our third speaker for the debate. And that’s Ryan Aldrich, our faculty advisor."
The school had invited her and Jett to participate in a live debate demonstration for everyone.
Jett wrote down all the relevant info for Chloe.
It spared Chloe a lot of trouble.
She gazed at him gratefully. "Jett, without you, I wouldn’t be able to attend this reunion at all."
She couldn’t rember much about Chloe Nash’s university years.
One wrong move, and her identity would be exposed.
Jett’s smile was a little bitter. "Chloe always used to say she wanted us to co back to campus years later, to find those old traces of romance. Today, we’ll grant her that wish."
Chloe’s eyes were misty—she nodded, "Okay."
The day’s first event was a gathering in the auditorium.
The principal and outstanding alumni would give speeches, followed by so performances.
The debate between Chloe and Jett was scheduled for the end.
The two of them were first and second speakers, squaring off fiercely with the underclassn team.
Chloe had prepared a lot for this debate.
Even though she’d never been great at arguing or speaking sharply, she worked tirelessly behind the scenes so she wouldn’t embarrass the real Chloe Nash.
Jett pitched in a lot too.
On stage, their seamless teamwork and quick-witted argunts drew wave after wave of applause.
The crowd was abuzz, screams and chatter erupting from below the stage.
"Ahhh, why did my favorite ship have to sink! These two are perfect together."
"Jett, win Chloe back! We’ll never get over it otherwise."
"Did you hear? Chloe never cheated—The Sterling Family forced her and Jett to break up. She was so heartbroken after leaving, she married soone just to move on."
"Please, don’t make my ship suffer anymore! After all they’ve been through, just let them be together already!"
Hearing all this, Kate was so furious she could’ve shattered her teeth from clenching so hard.
She glared daggers at Chloe on stage, cursing viciously in her heart: "Chloe, Jett belongs to . If you dare take him from , you’re dead."
