The crowd exchanged glances, not daring to speak.
No one knows what a typical interaction mode is for a high-profile marriage, but a woman publicly refusing a man, like Eleanor Winslow to Adrian Grant, without a hint of face-saving and with such a cold attitude, is definitely not typical!
Could it be that President Grant has a good temper... ah?
This strange atmosphere persisted all the way back to the law firm.
Albert Sawyer suddenly thought of sothing, abruptly looking at Eleanor, his eyes burning as his tone softened:
"Eleanor, this is your first presentation for a bid. If our firm wins, it would be a great start for your career! In the future, I can be your professional network. Isn’t a career more reliable than a husband?"
Albert Sawyer’s implication was very clear—due to the PPT error today, Aurelian & Partners is absolutely unlikely to win the bid, but Adrian Grant was sitting right in the middle of the front row of the judging panel today, his status speaks volus. Albert Sawyer hopes Eleanor will approach Adrian Grant to win the bid for Aurelian & Partners.
As long as we win the bid, the mistakes during bidding and presentation can all be redeed, wiped clean!
"Lawyer Sawyer, didn’t your girlfriend tell you that not only are my relations with the Grant Group’s top managent rather ambiguous, but I’m also the legitimate daughter of The Winslow Family," Eleanor reminded him, "the sa Winslow Family you served last year."
So, even without Adrian Grant as her husband, she can still do very well.
Going a step further, even if she weren’t Miss Winslow, she’d still live well.
But it’s useless to explain such reasoning to soone as opportunistic as Albert Sawyer.
"You—you’re from The Winslow Family?" Albert Sawyer’s complexion instantly darkened, he looked at Cecilia Yates.
Cecilia Yates bit her lip, not daring to speak.
Albert Sawyer was about to be driven mad by this woman, he raged: "Cecilia Yates, we’re done!"
Breaking up on the spot, right in front of everyone!
Just two minutes after they returned to the firm.
The clicking of high heels on the floor awakened everyone like from a dream.
The law firm’s partner looked around at everyone and directly said, "Cecilia Yates is fired, Albert Sawyer will be deducted all his quarterly and half-yearly bonuses, and his promotion eligibility for the year is canceled."
Cecilia Yates staggered and fell into a chair.
Albert Sawyer’s face turned extrely unsightly.
His tone softened sowhat: "Eleanor, you co."
Half an hour later.
The partner personally escorted Eleanor out of the office, looking reluctant: "Eleanor, I really admire you, I hope you would stay, but since everyone has their ambitions, I wish you a brilliant future!"
"Junior, are you leaving your job?" Sean Morgan was stunned.
Others were also stunned.
Everyone thought Eleanor had saved the day with her impromptu bilingual speech today, avoiding disgrace for the lawyers, and the partner should directly offer her a permanent position, but who would have thought Eleanor was leaving her job?!
Eleanor nodded, saying to Sean Morgan: "I still prefer academia, intend to continue my doctoral studies. I ntioned leaving my job earlier, and the boss asked to complete the last segnt of the project, which also marks the end of my internship."
ntioned resigning earlier?
Cecilia Yates looked at Eleanor as if she’d been struck by lightning, in disbelief.
Eleanor had never thought of staying, yet Cecilia viewed her as a competitor, so what’s all she did for? A clown jumping up and down?
Eleanor seed to know what Cecilia Yates was thinking, she looked over: "Cecilia Yates, if there wasn’t the false accusation today, the permanent position this year would likely be yours—such a pity!"
Such a pity, those who courted doom will eventually destroy themselves.
Eleanor’s final lant was utterly a blow to the heart.
Cecilia Yates’s tears of regret broke free instantly.
Sean Morgan looked dazed at Eleanor.
He suddenly realized that Eleanor appeared mild-mannered and easygoing, but actually not at all, she would strike without hesitation when her adversary’s fortitude faltered, and would deliver a tily final blow, akin to a poised hunter, not caring for minor gains or losses.
The one seated at a high position in Grant Group was also like this, appearing disciplined and gracious, yet in reality ruthless and rciless, killing invisibly.
Their marriage shows so resemblance.
He was indeed unworthy of Eleanor.
Sean Morgan smiled relievedly.
...
Eleanor walked out of the law firm building, looking at the brilliant sunlight outside, then glanced back at the building, she suddenly felt the change of circumstances.
She was overjoyed at receiving the internship offer initially, now seeing it as an illusion, finding it’s not as wonderful as she thought upon getting closer.
"Mrs. Grant."
A male voice pulled her thoughts back.
Eleanor looked over at the voice, seeing Adrian Grant holding artistic flowers beside a sports car. His appearance was already quite striking, with an ostentatious Aston Martin sports car behind him, even in this area densely populated with luxury cars, he stood out.
"Congratulations on leaving your job," Adrian Grant handed the flowers to Eleanor.
Passersby all turned to look.
Several girls who didn’t understand giggled, trying to stifle their excitent.
Eleanor was mildly stunned, didn’t take the flowers, her gaze moved from the flowers to Adrian Grant’s handso face, saying, "You haven’t given flowers before."
Eleanor added, "The last ti I received flowers was from Senior Jacobs."
Upon hearing the ntion of Julian Jacobs, Adrian Grant’s expression visibly darkened montarily.
"I no longer buy you flowers; have I purchased too little jewelry and bags?" Adrian Grant said halfway with a self-deprecating laugh.
Eleanor pushed him aside: "I’ve returned all those things to you."
The items were still at Azurean Bay; the jewelry and valuable handbags she took away weren’t gifts from Adrian Grant.
She left decisively, cleanly, without any lingering affection or reluctance.
Adrian Grant asked, "Do you like flowers that much?"
"Not particularly," Eleanor calmly said, "I drove here."
She then headed directly towards the parking garage, without granting Adrian Grant another glance.
Shifting the flower to one arm, Adrian Grant’s feigned gentle deanor was stripped away, leaving him to look a mix of coldness and sarcasm.
She was telling him with her actions: She wanted a divorce!
Next day.
Adrian Grant called the female secretaries in the secretary’s office, asking if they would be happy receiving flowers.
"Of course!" one of them answered, thinking their boss’ mind might be acting up today, suddenly asking a question wasting work ti.
Another person said, "But perhaps not, if the flowers co from soone they don’t like, it would be quite troubling."
An icy light flashed in Adrian Grant’s eyes.
He recalled how Eleanor had seed genuinely happy when Julian Jacobs gave her flowers last ti, yet yesterday she said it was ordinary, without any sign of joy.
It appears the problem isn’t with the flowers.
But with him, the flower giver!
The secretaries sensed the atmospheric pressure as a cold wave, exchanging worried glances:
Were they wrong in saying sothing?
Could it be that the CEO is having another conflict with the rumored Mrs. Grant?
Soon after.
Charles Rhodes knocked and entered: "President Grant, all the jewelry and bags from Azurean Bay have been sent to Madam’s apartnt, but no one was ho, I used the door lock password."
"No one?"
Adrian Grant halted his reading of the docunts.
"The bodyguard protecting Madam covertly said Madam returned to school," Charles Rhodes paused, cautiously looking at Adrian Grant’s expression. Then he added, "Mr. Jacobs picked Madam up at the school gate."
