Chapter 300: Chapter 300: First Contact with the Otherworld Natives (3)

“Are you the wanted female thief?”

“Yes.” Ye Nai felt that with her skills, getting a warrant for her arrest wasn’t difficult.

“I don’t know you, I haven’t seen your warrant, can you spare our entire village?”

“You’ve seen now.”

“Please, we won’t tell anyone about you.”

“You’ve killed many of my people, many, many more than your whole town and all the villages combined.”

“Are you here for revenge?”

“Revenge? Yes, I am here for revenge.”

Ye Nai smiled faintly.

“There are still so many children in the village, they haven’t done anything, please spare them.”

“We’ve lost even more children.”

The girl wept hopelessly on the ground.

The Mayor cald down, attempting one last struggle.

“The war has nothing to do with us!”

“You deliver food and water to the Military Fortress.”

“The war was started by the higher-ups, we’re just trying to make a living! It has nothing to do with us!”

“Your higher-ups, they lead you into war, you should find them to take revenge.”

The girl quickly interjected.

“Our village truly doesn’t know anything, go to the town, the Mayor knows everything, he’s the one sending supplies to the Military Fortress.”

“The Mayor sends supplies to the Military Fortress?” Ye Nai raised an eyebrow, watch it squeeze out more information when pressured.

“Our village just provides food and drink to the soldiers, but the town sends a lot more.”

Ye Nai nodded, shifting her gaze to the Mayor.

“Does the Mayor know?”

“I-I only know that the Mayor organizes other villages to send supplies to the Military Fortress, where those supplies co from I don’t know, our whole town couldn’t gather that much, it’s all handled by the Mayor.”

“Good, your information has saved you, you may live a few more days.”

The girl lay on the ground very humbly.

“Great person from afar, could you let all our villagers wake up?”

“Lie down a bit longer, seeing you all well makes feel sad, makes want to kill you all even more.”

Both of them imdiately fell silent.

Ye Nai didn’t want to entangle too much with the villagers, she was more eager to have a chat with that Mayor, to expand her vocabulary.

Thus, she scattered the spores that rooted naturally upon reaching the ground, picked up her belongings, and walked out of the village, scattering the corpses from her Space along the road, then returned to the East Ridge Secret Realm.

The Mayor and the young girl breathed a sigh of relief, kneeling on the ground waiting for all the villagers to gradually awaken.

“We are in trouble,” murmured the Mayor.

“Mayor?”

The girl looked at him puzzled, now just the two of them awake, the whole village silent, even slight sounds were very clear.

“We are in trouble,” the Mayor raised his voice, his tone trembling slightly, “We are in big trouble.”

“Why? What big trouble?”

“The Military Fortress has been destroyed, that’s big trouble. If she can take down our whole village alone, she can kill everyone in the Military Fortress. What will the higher-ups do when they co to investigate and find our village unhard?”

“Will they arrest us and put us in prison?” the girl was a bit afraid.

“In prison?” The village chief let out a bitter laugh, “Being in prison would be a luxury. There’s war everywhere outside. I heard they’re not taking anyone into prisons anymore. If soone commits a cri, they’re sent to the battlefield to labor.”

“No!” The girl burst into tears, “Mayor, think of sothing, we have to co up with a plan. War is decided by those at the top, we didn’t do anything, we haven’t even sent any n to the battlefield.”

“Wait a bit longer, let’s see if we can stand up again. We must let the mayor know about this, he’s the main one involved in all the big tasks, and he knows a lot. That official will surely find him.”

The village chief suddenly relaxed a little.

“We’re not going to be okay, and neither will the mayor. We’ve only ever been responsible for taking care of the food and drink for the soldiers at Military Fortress. That damned mayor even demanded we contribute supplies. Heh, if our entire village is going to die, his family won’t live either.”

The young girl hugged the youngster in her arms and silently wept.

As the sky grew darker and it beca necessary to light lanterns to see around, the village chief finally managed to stand up, shaking in his legs.

“Alright, I’m up, now you try.”

The girl set down the youngster in her arms and also stood up, her actions much swifter than the village chief’s due to her youth.

“But everyone else hasn’t woken up.”

“Never mind them for now, light a torch, and let’s go see the Military Fortress.”

“Yes, Mayor.”

The girl, still with sowhat shaky legs, ran ho to light two large torches and handed one to the village chief.

The village chief, holding the torch, walked alone towards the outskirts of the village but returned almost imdiately, stumbling and visibly panicked and distressed.

“Outside, outside…”

Yet the girl showed happiness and excitent.

“Mayor, you’re back so soon? Look, everyone has woken up.”

“Woken up?” the Mayor roared, “Don’t be happy, what’s there to be happy about? Our loved ones are dead, their bodies are right there on the village path!”

The Mayor’s roar extinguished whatever little joy had just awakened in the villagers.

Imdiately, many people ignored their own physical weaknesses after lying down all day and staggered one after another towards the village path.

The elderly and children who were less mobile stayed behind.

The girl didn’t move; when the Mayor roared, she knew it must be true. The image of their unknown enemy, a small yet formidable young woman, popped into her mind.

War is rely you kill , I kill you. She wasn’t too saddened; in these troubled tis, living another day was a gift.

Before long, cries of mourning carried by the night wind reached the ears of the villagers in the square, and they too began to weep.

The girl bowed her head, picked up the youngster in her arms, and returned ho in silence with her younger siblings.

She had no parents or elders at ho, she had long been numb to death in the village.

The dead villagers were carried back to the square, then the village chief regrouped to check on the Military Fortress.

Arriving there, the villagers were relieved that there were no bodies.

But the next mont, their relief turned back into tension because there were no bodies.

The entire Military Fortress was empty, not just of bodies, but the many Transmission Platforms they were so accustod to seeing were also gone.

“Mayor, did the enemy break in?”

“Did the enemy take away the Transmission Platforms? Can they even use them?”

“How many enemies ca? It must be a huge army, right? Can we even fight them? Should we just surrender now?”

“Would surrendering spare us? Are they willing to feed prisoners for free?”

“What are we going to do? As crappy as these tis are, I still don’t want to die.”

“Let’s not think about whether we can be prisoners right now, let’s think about how the Mayor is going to handle us once the town finds out about this.”

Before the village chief could speak, soone in the crowd already voiced a reminder that brought everybody’s increasingly off-topic discussion to a silent halt.
