Chapter 16: Chapter 16 There are Abnormal Creatures in the Community (4)

Listening to the discussions of the neighbors around, no one seed to notice anything unusual about the building, and Ye Nai felt relieved. As for whether the investigators would have any questions after the fact, she didn’t care.

How could the investigators have any suspicions about her, an 18-year-old who was determined not to have had an “Awakening” during the collective one?

After those two abnormal creatures were killed, half of their bodies hung limply above ground. Then the warriors escorted a team wearing protective gear, carrying detection equipnt to investigate what was happening underground. After that, they began to assemble an enormous movable tent to cover the site of the battle.

Seeing this, the neighbors felt even more at ease, thinking that the area should be fine now since the research had begun, although fights were still happening elsewhere.

Ye Nai only joined the chat group for her building, but there were many who had joined several groups, and now they acted as an information hub, continuously forwarding the latest photos from other groups.

[Wow, there are still fights going on in various parts of the neighborhood.]

...

[Our area finished the fight fastest.]

[I wonder how long these things are, once the tent is up, you can’t see anything.]

[What’s there to see with these disgusting things? It’s better when they’re dead.]

[Exactly, a dead abnormal creature is a good one.]

[Hey, hey, hey, does anyone know when our community’s lockdown will be lifted? It’s nearly ti for the end of the workday and school.]

[Right, family mbers will be coming ho soon, and we still don’t know when the ban will be lifted.]

[No idea, no news yet, probably have to wait until the fight is over to lift the ban.]

[Definitely have to wait until it’s over.]

[Darn, my kids don’t have cell phones, they get out of school early, and now I don’t know where they are.]

[Sa for my family.]

[Are you silly? Why only think of your children now? Weren’t there any adults taking ti off work to pick them up?]

[Adults would lose a day’s wage if they took ti off.]

[What kind of heartless boss is that, thinking they’ll never face such bad luck in their lifeti?]

[Hey, hey, hey, don’t get too nervous, there must be police waiting at the main gate. Any adults or kids coming back will be stopped; it won’t be too bad, unless your kids are too naughty and play sowhere else instead of going ho after school, then you can’t bla anyone.]

The group quieted down montarily, most likely everyone contacting their family mbers.

anwhile, Ye Nai released the “superpower spores” she had just gathered, dispersing them throughout the community, nibbling after the disruptive abnormal creatures underground, and driving them out one after another.

Her “Fungal Space” also took the opportunity to restock by taking one evenly thick creature. The previous two had already been decomposed by more than half, with bones and eggs completely broken down. With this third one, only a few small gaps remained in her space.

The continuously updated photos in the building complex confird Ye Nai’s efforts were not wasted, as one large tent after another was erected. In a few photos, researchers could be seen carrying out pots covered with cloth, but the shape of the cloth still allowed Ye Nai to recognize at a glance that the pots contained those eggs.

Watching the danger recede, the atmosphere in the chat group lightened up again, everyone just waiting for the ban to be lifted.

As it approached six o’clock, large illumination lamps were erected throughout the neighborhood, and drones with loudspeakers took to the sky again, announcing the end of the restrictions to each building.

Following the announcent were the schoolchildren who had been stopped at the entrance, their parents hadn’t co to pick them up early, and those who ca back from school early couldn’t enter their hos. Fortunately, the local authorities had set up temporary civil affairs tents on the street to house them, preventing the children from wandering about.

Ye Nai quickly called her mother, who still decided to return ho for dinner, telling her older daughter to cook so rice noodles at will, and she would bring back a bag of buns and stead buns.

The thrilling day finally ca to an end, and whether there were still abnormal creatures beneath the neighborhood’s ground would have to wait for further inspection. anwhile, new ssages erged in the chat group, warning residents near the raised soil ridge to pay attention—they might be temporarily moved to resettlent housing, awaiting safety inspection of their hos.

As soon as this news ca out, the various chat groups in the neighborhood were in chaos again, with only three or five buildings remaining unaffected, including Building 16.

Ye Nai felt even more relieved that Building 16 was not the only safe area, thus, it was even less likely to draw attention.

After the battle in the afternoon, she had also confird sothing, that “superpower spores” grew and proliferated into a large amount of Fungal Mycelium to aid in the fight, and before the battle, more than one person had passed by Building 16, yet not a single one noticed any abnormal superpower fluctuation. Either they were not focused on this, or her spores and fungi truly couldn’t be detected or seen, and her Fungal Mycelium…

Ye Nai suddenly realized that her assumption that Fungal Mycelium could be seen with the naked eye was based on common knowledge.

In fact, she had never truly experinted to see if the Fungal Mycelium spawned from her superpower spores could be seen by others.

If her spores, fungi, and Fungal Mycelium truly couldn’t be detected, asured, or even seen, then how terrifying a weapon could her superpower be?

Thinking that such a wonderful thing had happened to her, Ye Nai, who was washing vegetables and cooking rice noodles in the kitchen, chuckled with giddy joy.

Half an hour later, her mother returned ho with her siblings, and the family discussed the many mutant earthworm-like abnormal creatures that had erged in the neighborhood while eating. Even the youngest sister guessed whether those worms had made nests under the neighborhood.

Ye Nai also found it strange, wondering how it could be the breeding season in such hot weather, but the pile of eggs collected from Space was undeniably real, and anything that could be decomposed, transford, and absorbed by the Fungus must be organic matter.

However, she didn’t dwell on this question for long; after all, these were abnormal creatures and couldn’t be regarded with the sa understanding as ordinary ones. As soone with only a high school education, she didn’t have the intellect to analyze the underlying reasons.

After dinner was the usual chaotic ti at ho, with her siblings too excited about today’s events to sit still and do their howork. Her mother had to take care of her father, Ye Nai had to do chores and squeeze in ti to urge her siblings to do their howork, all of which kept her incredibly busy.

But taking advantage of the commotion, Ye Nai threw two spores on the old, yellow leaves she peeled while washing vegetables and left them on the kitchen countertop, pretending to wait until she was less busy to throw them into the compost bin.

In her vision, those two spores quickly grew and multiplied into a large patch, completely covering the few vegetable leaves.

The restless younger siblings, who kept running to the kitchen for water, wasted half an hour just by taking turns to refill their cups. The spore-covered vegetable leaves were only a short distance from them, yet no one glanced at them even once.

Ye Nai didn’t know if they truly couldn’t see it or had simply not noticed.

The experint failed. Ye Nai recalled the spores and threw the remaining vegetable leaves into the compost bin. Next ti, she would try it in a more crowded place.
