Shortly after learning Jeff’s operation mode, Leonard wished to know one last thing.
"Are you still under that person’s order or mine now?"
"I’m now under the Crown Prince’s order." Jeff bowed his head and showed his submissive side. "The superior had ntioned that as long as you discovered , my mission was over."
Leonard nodded in acknowledgent.
He didn’t doubt Jeff’s words, or more specifically, the person behind this chess ga. From the start to the end, he was always under surveillance.
The experience in Velastra had taught him dearly.
His so-called victory in his old modern world could be considered child’s play in this world’s political ga.
The true figures were far more frightening than he could ever imagine. He reckoned his life might have been forfeited the mont he set foot outside of his palace if it weren’t for his hidden protectors.
"Alright, I understand the gist. But care to tell why you want to eliminate Mirelle as well?"
"Eliminate Mirelle?"
Startled, Jeff appeared visibly confused by the ntion of Mirelle.
"Mirelle is an important piece. I have no intention of eliminating her." Jeff clarified. He was naturally inford of Mirelle’s status and significance.
Therefore, unless Leonard personally made the order to eliminate Mirelle, he wouldn’t dare to make a move.
Not to ntion, Jeff couldn’t guarantee the execution would be smooth.
With Mirelle’s profound resources and her ntor’s protective ans, trying to assassinate her was equivalent to stroking the tiger’s whiskers.
"It really wasn’t you?" Leonard frowned. If it wasn’t Jeff behind the incident of Ted’s sudden attack on them, then who was behind it?
He refused to believe Ted seriously tried to attack soone rely because he coveted their beauty. If that was the case, then he should have totally waited until there were fewer people to commit the cri.
"I’m an executioner, Crown Prince. I don’t leave witnesses behind." Jeff replied with a serious tone.
Upon hearing that, Leonard had to admit he had a point. The two city guards who were killed by him proved the statent.
"You’re lucky that the two city guards were corrupted." Leonard coolly said.
He had received information regarding their death. And it was discovered that they had taken bribes from the nobles who were already purged. As for the reason behind the bribes, it was human trafficking.
Jeff simply took advantage of his mission as an excuse to slay a few corrupted colleagues.
As their conversation continued, Jeff revealed his past. Apparently, he had been deployed to Velastra as early as 7 years ago. It was also then that he t his wife and married her.
What was surprising was that Jeff initially planned on marrying to help disguise his identity, but fate had other plans in mind.
"Consider this your final mission then." Leonard promptly said. "The political world is in turmoil, and there’s no need to involve yourself in the muddy water anymore."
Although he appreciated Jeff’s ability, he had no intention of implicating a family man again.
’Back then, I should have fired him and not have him continue...’ Leonard still recalled the aggrieved woman confronting him in distress in his old world. She was pregnant and still had another kid to take care of.
Despite his insistence to offer a trust fund for her, she adamantly refused and even pleaded with him to get away from her life. All she wanted was a peaceful life, and not so conflicted life.
"The Crown Prince wishes to dismiss ?" Jeff’s face dropped. He remained unaware of Leonard’s internal thoughts and misunderstood the Crown Prince’s aning.
"Please allow a chance to be of use, Crown Prince." Jeff pleaded solemnly. "I have vowed to offer my loyalty to the Crimson Guards. Without the Crimson Guards, there is no Jeff."
If he hadn’t been taken under wings through a fortuitous encounter, then he would have long been killed by the treacherous noble. His family was frad, and he was implicated as well.
However, thanks to the intervention of his superior, his identity was changed, and he was even granted the opportunity to personally take revenge.
"You vowed loyalty to the Crimson Guards, then what about your wife?" Leonard questioned, his eyes shifting in the direction where Gloria had left.
"What would she do if you were to forfeit your life one day because of a dangerous mission? An executioner isn’t omnipotent. Sotis, an executioner could also beco the executed one."
Silent, Jeff was unable to refute the statent.
Although he was confident and cautious of his surroundings, there was indeed no guarantee he would co out alive every ti.
There was a reason why he always made sure to return ho in ti to eat dinner. It was to reassure his wife that his job was stable and safe.
"I-I..." Jeff wanted to say sothing, but failed to express his thoughts properly. In the end, he ended up stuttering and seemingly in a daze.
Leonard also understood what was going on in Jeff’s mind. His current reaction was nearly identical to that of his deceased subordinate.
"Hah... you should return ho and ponder over it. Have a proper discussion with your wife regarding this." He ultimately sighed and didn’t want to force Jeff.
If he chose to remain as a Crimson Guard, then Leonard could only comply with his wish.
However, Jeff must receive Gloria’s approval. He had no intention of replaying that kind of sorrowful and guilt scene in this world.
A few seconds later, Jeff regulated his emotions and thanked Leonard for his generosity.
"I’ll have the answer soon, Crown Prince." He gave one last bow before excusing himself.
Looking at his silhouette vanishing from the corner, Leonard pursed his lips.
This world was indeed full of thorns.
No matter one’s identity, life was extrely fragile.
"Hopefully, you won’t regret your choices." He murmured and turned his attention to another direction.
Since Jeff had no idea of Ted’s actions, it ant soone else was still trying to sche against him. Whoever it was, they should start panicking because he was coming after them.
