Chapter 735: A Promise Of Tomorrow [Part 1]
As the water trickled down from the top of their heads, Fran rested her head on Alex’s naked chest.
Perhaps that might or might not have been a bad move because the moment she did, she felt something press on her stomach, making her face redden.
“I’m sorry,” Alex said softly. “You’re just too cute, Fran.”
He didn’t even bother to make any excuses for Little Alex’s mischief.
It was a natural physical reaction. In fact, Alex would’ve been more worried if the little guy didn’t react after the young man hugged the person he loved.
“Well then. Let’s wash up first.” Fran hurriedly pulled back and reached out for the soap. She then lathered her hands and body with it before turning her back to Alex.
She didn’t know how much effort Alex needed to hold himself back from hugging her from behind. Instead, he quietly took the soap from her hand and lathered it between his palms.
Moving closer, he gently washed her back, paying special attention to the places she couldn’t reach on her own. The warm water flowed over them in fortable silence, easing some of the awkwardness that lingered between them.
At the moment, both were desperately trying to calm their wildly beating hearts, but were failing miserably to do so.
Alex crouched down to wash Fran’s legs and feet from behind. He didn’t mind being a little devoted to the young lady, who was making his heart ache so much.
This was especially true after remembering a bit of their past.
She had been his rival, his friend, and his fairy wife back in the Shadow Forest, where they had lived until they fought the last battle against the Demon Lord.
There, Alex had died. And there, Fran also breathed her last, disappearing into nothingness, leaving only a marked grave which had her name on it.
That was the only proof that a fairy named Fran was one of the unsung heroes who had protected the continent during one of its darkest eras.
“All done,” Alex said softly as he helped rinse the soap from her body, carefully avoiding any place that might make the situation even more dangerous for his self-control.
He knew that if he allowed himself to be careless, he might just lose control of his senses and pull her into his arms, right there in the bathroom.
Just as he was about to start washing himself, Fran turned around, took the soap from his hand and began to lather his body instead.
At first, Alex wanted to tell her that he could wash himself. However, since he washed her first, he had no valid reason to stop her from doing what she wanted.
With that, Fran started with his chest, then moved to his arms. However, when she was about to wash his legs, the dwarf skillfully moved behind Alex before crouching down to wash him from the back.
Clearly, she didn’t want to crouch down while washing Alex from the front because she was too embarrassed to do it.
Instead, she playfully washed his backside, even giving it a playful slap as a payback for what happened earlier.
Fortunately, Fran didn’t see the evil smile that appeared on the young man’s face after she did that little act of hers.
‘I’ll get back to you later,’ Alex thought, already imagining giving the mischievous dwarf his own payback when they headed to the bedroom later.
Unaware of Alex’s thoughts, Fran stood on tiptoes in an attempt to wash his hair.
But after failing to do it properly, she eventually asked Alex to crouch down, which the latter obeyed without question.
He turned around and sat facing her.
Thinking that Alex was going to behave, she applied shampoo to the young man’s hair and gave it a good scrubbing.
At that, Alex simply closed his eyes and enjoyed the treatment, finding the sensation of his lover’s fingers very relaxing.
Once she was done, Fran carefully rinsed his hair, making sure that no soap remained.
After they finished washing up, they dried themselves with bath towels.
Alex was using every ounce of willpower he possessed to stop himself from wrapping Fran up like a burrito, carrying her in his arms, and marching straight toward the bed.
Even though they had just bathed, the redness lingering on their cheeks had nothing to do with the hot water.
“Let me help you dry your hair, Fran,” Alex said as he sat on the edge of the bed and patted the space beside him. “e here.”
Fran shyly walked up to him and sat beside him.
She allowed her lover to dry her hair while she tried to organize her thoughts.
If someone asked her if she was nervous, she would answer yes without hesitation. Then again, Fran knew that this day would e sooner or later, so she had already prepared her heart and body for it.
She then remembered one of her regrets when she was still a fairy, and that was the fact that she was unable to give birth to Alex’s child.
However, it was now possible.
It would not be easy, yes. But the possibility existed.
There were half-dwarfs living on the continent, which was a union between humans and dwarves.
Fran had met a few of them during her travels with her brother. In her opinion, they looked like slightly taller dwarves.
“What are you thinking?” Alex asked when he noticed that Fran seemed to be deep in thought.
“I was thinking about our future child,” Fran replied without thinking. “I hope they grow healthy and strong.”
When she finally realized what she had just said, the young lady almost bolted out of the bed.
It was then when a pair of arms wrapped themselves around her body, holding her in place.
“Calm down, Fran,” Alex said as he pulled her closer to him, resting her head on his chest. “Please, calm down.”
Due to her position, Fran sensed that Alex’s own heart was also beating really fast. A part of her wanted to say that it was him who should calm down.
But even then, hearing his heartbeat helped her feel less anxious.
A minute later, Alex felt Fran’s lips press over his chest, specifically on the place where his heart was located.
The young lady kissed that part before giving it a gentle bite, leaving her mark.
It was her own way of marking Alex’s heart, making sure that she had a place in it.
“Fran…” Alex said softly as he cupped her face before slowly making her look at him in the eye. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Fran replied.
He then lowered his head to kiss her lips.
A kiss that lasted for only a few seconds.
This wasn’t the first time he kissed Fran. They had already shared a few kisses after they had bee lovers with each other. However, tonight’s kiss was more special than the rest.
After all, the inevitable next step would take them to the next stage of their relationship.
When their lips parted, Alex kissed her again, and again, and again.
Each kiss lingered a little longer than the last, carrying the feelings that they could no longer put into words.
With that said, tonight wasn’t merely the end of a long day.
Instead, it was the beginning of a future they had once lost, neither of which intended to let it slip away a second time.
