Boom! Boom! Boom!
The earth trembled, the sky wept, space was torn, and ti distorted...
Everything was illuminated by colorful lights caused by explosions that sent a terrible aftermath for miles. The roars of engines, machinery, and soldiers echoed on the field as they fought tooth and nail to maintain their position.
Fighting against them was a horde of strange creatures veiled in darkness. Their movents were erratic and nonsensical. It's as if they're glitching in and out of existence. They appear unmoving, yet they're also gradually closing the gap between them and the soldiers.
They leave a putrid trail in their wake, one that eroded everything it touched. And with how many of them there were, it wouldn't take a genius to figure out that this putrid ss will easily swallow up everything they knew and loved if it weren't contained here.
Fortunately, despite the seemingly chaotic and fierce battlefield, the situation was under control.
The soldiers, with their modern and updated weaponry, easily kept the damages to a minimum. The walls behind them perfectly contained all these terrible creatures, not allowing even a single one out and into the realm to cause havoc.
Their enemies might be great in numbers, but they're no match for the firepower of the soldiers who easily solved them before they could cause more problems.
This was the current situation of the Border Patrol camps...
A horde was recently sensed once again, so the soldiers were alard. At this point, nobody was surprised anymore. They've long accepted that it will be like this for a very long ti, so it's business as usual.
This horde was greater than the last ti, and it made so people wonder just how fast these Void Creatures could reproduce. Nonetheless, retreat isn't an option for them. They can't let these creatures into the realm because nobody could tell just how much damage they could cause, so they must be dealt with here within the walls.
Thankfully, their weapons and defenses held up to the task. Even though the horde's numbers were to increase even further, their upgraded equipnt should be able to accommodate that. Therefore, there are no real further risks here so long as they don't fumble.
'I leave for six months, and this is the scene I return to.' Cedric sighed exasperatedly as he watched the soldiers go.
Yes, his vacation ended by now, and it was this very day that he returned here after saying goodbyes to his family. He didn't expect to be greeted by roaring fire and screams of agony as soon as he returned, but it's sothing he should get used to, he supposes.
Despite arriving at a chaotic scene like this, Cedric didn't do anything reckless. Instead, he kept observing everything like it had nothing to do with him.
This isn't because he didn't caring, no. It's because he really didn't have to do anything, for they have this covered already.
Sure, the horde they're facing might be larger than the last ti, but it's not too much for them to handle. They're doing just fine, so Cedric had no reasons to interfere. Not only him, but also the other Ancient Chaos Path practitioners.
Besides, it's still the sa as before he left. The Ancient Chaos Path can't take on the spotlight for now. It's not yet the ti for that. Their foundations are too shallow to start drawing attention. They must bide their ti until they're well prepared to face the music.
As he surveyed the battlefield, the light in Cedric's eyes intensified for a mont. This caused his vision to warp, allowing him to see through the Scarlet Division Wall.
Here, he was able to see directly just how many Void Creatures there are still on the other side, and this also allowed him to check if there are other surprises waiting for them.
This improvent in his vision control was a very recent thing. As in, it happened while he's still on vacation. There were no warnings, nor was he alerted that sothing like this would happen. It just did, and he too was very surprised when he discovered it.
Cedric attributed it to Chaos Energy, which was constantly improving his physique at each circulation. He had long since discovered that his eyes absorbed Chaos Energy greater than the rest of his body. Initially, he thought that it's normal since he uses his eyes the most in his everyday life, but he didn't expect that it would bring in more surprises.
Now, the Scarlet Division Wall can no longer contain his vision. He could easily see through it if he wanted to. Of course, right now, doing this puts a great burden on his eyes, preventing him from doing it for extended periods. But as he grows stronger, this ability will only improve, and it wouldn't be as burdenso as it is currently.
For now, though, this will suffice.
On the other side of the division wall, the horde was funneled into the northwestern gates and thrown straight into the firing range of guardians. There are still a considerable number of them out there, so the defense will have to continue for a bit longer than usual.
Unlike the previous one, though, there were no additional surprises, like that one void creature launching a cot at them from the other side.
Cedric also didn't find any traces of the Void Prince, which was greatly relieving. At least, this was as far as this goes. They're not completely in trouble yet.
He also checked on other campsites, even personally going there himself just to make sure that there were no nasty surprises. And sure enough, there wasn't, which greatly relieved him.
So, back to the northwestern camp he went...
Cedric decided to wait until the defense was over to make his official return since, as of right now, nobody was allowed in or out of the walls while the defense was ongoing.
He could only hang out in the waiting room, observing everything from where he was and waiting until it was over.
This wait lasted for a little over 24 hours. And even then, he wasn't imdiately attended to because of the following procedures after the conclusion of the horde.
The camp not only had to clean up; its soldiers were also exhausted and needed rest. Even the ones working in the reception area were called in for the defense, so until they returned, Cedric could only wait here.
This led to another 12 hours of waiting. Cedric didn't mind too much because he had access to the virtual universe to entertain himself. And even if he didn't, he could've instead spent this ti cultivating instead, which would cause the ti to pass by quickly for him.
"Hello, sir. We deeply apologize for making you wait so long. How can I assist you?"
Retreating from the virtual universe after receiving this ssage, Cedric walked up to the receptionist and said,
"Hi, I'm here to report back to work. We can use the biotrics scan to confirm my identity."
"Sure thing, Sir! Please wait just for a bit."
Shortly after, Cedric had his biotrics scanned, and his identity and position were confird. The receptionist welcod his return, referring to him by his alias—Dawnbringer—and letting him into the camp.
As soon as he returned, a wave of nostalgia hit Cedric. One that he shrugged off shortly after. He then made his way back into his residence to reactivate his personal terminals, which will further announce his return.
Cedric then spent his ti rounding up all of his e-mails and the work that piled up for him during his disappearance.
There wasn't much, which signified that the preparations before his departure worked. The ones that found their way to his desk were things that really needed to enter his attention. Everything else was filtered out.
Cedric could easily knock these tasks done within a day after his return. But amongst these reports, there were a few that really caught his attention.
The first one was another technological breakthrough. It concerns him because it makes use of the arrays and formations he invented. The most recent entry inford him that they've entered the field testing stage.
After thinking for a bit, Cedric recognized what it was. Yes, he had seen new weapons being fired during the attack. He recalled its performance and discovered that there was a lot of room for improvent. But that's going to have to wait because the next matter truly needed his imdiate attention.
'Sobody has decided to take the first step into breaking through the Cosmic Level equivalent of the Ancient Chaos Path!? '
As soon as he saw this summary, Cedric's attention completely focused on it. He then brought up all relevant records of this person as well as the entries leading to this decision.
This person, a male Ancient Titan, participated in the Ancient Chaos Alpha project and reached the peak of the Void Refinent Realm. According to his entries, he's been feeling 'full,' and his instincts were telling him that he has to move on or else he'll blow up.
Obviously, he didn't want to do this without consulting Cedric. Fortunately, he could still hold on for now.
Well, Cedric's back, and this couldn't wait, so he gathered up his things and sent an e-mail to this person, telling him to et him in person.
