As Freed's Sword slashed down, Roy stood still, his expression cold.

Slowly, he raised his hand.

"Hahaha!" Freed cackled, his grin manic.

Sticking out his tongue like a rabid dog, he swung the blade at Roy's head.

But the blade halted mid-air.

Slash!

A sharp clash rang out.

Roy's right hand, now clad in a red gauntlet, gripped the Light based Sword.

The weapon, capable of slicing steel, was stopped cold.

Freed froze, then his face twisted with shock and madness.

"Sacred Gear wielder?"

As a church-trained exorcist, Freed knew Sacred Gears.

Though he couldn't na it—was a gauntlet-type, built for raw power enhancent.

Buzz!

The Sword vibrated, its frequency spiking, grinding against the gauntlet like a chainsaw, trying to carve through.

"So what if you've got a Sacred Gear?" Freed snarled.

"You're just a devil-tainted human! Watch hack off your hand!"

He cranked the sword's output, its light attribute increasing.

Roy's grip tightened.

Crack!

The Sword shattered, its energy bursting like a popped bulb.

"Impossible!" Freed's distorted grin froze.

The Sword, forged from angel's holy power, was a devil's bane.

Its sharpness alone could cleave stone, its durability rivaling standard Sacred Gears.

Yet Roy not only blocked it but crushed it.

Freed's mind reeled.

Even a Sacred Gear shouldn't do that.

Before he could react, Roy struck.

His foot slamd into Freed's chest.

Freed flew back, spitting blood, crashing to the floor.

"Gotta thank you for dropping by," Roy said, eyeing Freed's pained writhing.

Roy had been plotting a way to reveal his red dragon emperor status to Rias.

This was perfect.

Tainted by devil contact, he'd drawn a church exorcist's ire.

In a life-or-death pinch, his "dormant" Sacred Gear awakened, fueling a desperate counter that crushed the intruder.

It was more convincing than a random awakening—Sacred Gears thrived on desire, and nothing beat the will to survive.

"Damn you!" Freed spat, blood dripping from his mouth, his twisted grin unyielding.

"Thanked by a devil-tainted human? I'm not thrilled!"

He tried to rant, but a scream cut him off.

Roy lunged, stomping Freed's right hand.

Crack!

Bones snapped under Roy's boot.

"Damn you!" Freed howled, cursing through the pain.

Wriggling, he yanked a holy pistol from his coat with his left hand.

"Die, devil-tainted scum!" Freed's grin flashed triumph as he aid at Roy.

A holy bullet fired point-blank.

Even Middle-Class devils couldn't dodge at this range.

Red flas erupted before Roy, incinerating the bullet inches from his chest.

"What the hell?!" Freed's desperation peaked as his last gambit burned away.

"Why's a devil-tainted human this strong?"

"Nice gear," Roy said, nodding at the pistol and broken hilt.

"So, I won't leave you intact, completely," Roy said.

Using bond of life, ready to erase Freed and all evidence.

"Ah—!" A gasp echoed from behind.

Roy paused, glancing toward the corridor.
