Now, one might think that I will just use the vampires to kill the king, enslave the zombies, and then jump in bed for a nap.
But no!
The vampires were strong. Most of them were about S rank or even higher. None were Aron’s SSS rank, but that was to be expected.
He was keeping , or, at least, used to keep alive with his own mana. And that is not an easy thing to do!
So, I used my mana to make the vampires make so... changes to the war plans.
A troop of zombies would walk into Desmond’s trap, no Boliarin in sight, and Desmond would steal them, drain them of mana, and then send the mana...
Or, a group of berserker Lich would walk into Nick’s trap, again, no Boliarin in sight, and he will just turn them into mana batteries. Bury them into holy grounds, with the help of so of our human soldiers, and then send the mana.
Or...
I guess it is pretty much obvious by this point what Nathaniel did for , but just to be clear, it was not my idea to have the darn zombies built a wall!
Or dance on top of it to confuse king Alexios.
Granted, I imagine the man was confused, but he still got it taken down. I got the mana of the zombies which were doing the demolishing, the zombies which were doing the building, and... the stripper zombies.
Needless to say, I don’t want to talk to Nate...
"What are you going to do with 10,000 mana points?" Aron asked, as he massaged my feet. It was nice. Cooking all day long made for sore feet.
The humans, the living ones, had to forage for their food.
But even acorns could be cooked into sothing nice. Provided you got rid of their nasty taste.
And I did.
The bitter taste of the acorns ca from the tannins. That thing needed to be boiled out.
First, I placed all of the acorns inside of pots with cold water. The bad ones floated out, and I was left with the ones which could be eaten.
After that, it was simply a matter of boiling them and draining their water until it no longer looked like brown brought.
Add salt, have your soldiers march.
Ah... wartis.
"I will invest in my dungeon," because I did not want for Aron to have to wear white on our wedding. It was funny that I went from denial to hearing wedding bells, but I was always like that.
It was not just the fact that Aron wanted to spend his life with , no. It was more than that.
It was finding a part of myself I did not think I would ever find. It was finding my soulmate. The man who had kept alive when thuselah no longer could.
"You know, once, I thought I will never move from my mountain," I told Aron, for I felt that I needed to get it off my chest. It was not like he was a stranger.
We have known each other our entire lives. We just did not know it.
"Oh?" Aron asked. His clever fingers doing wonders to my ankle. I lted in his touch. Man, sitting over a pot the entire day, boiling acorns, sure takes its toll.
"Yes! thuselah had everything I needed! I poached shrubs from the base of the mountain, so I won’t feel alone!" he chuckled, a sound so cute that I could have hugged him and kissed him senseless, if that would not an that the massage would be over. "And then, one day, he ca."
I knew that the villain of my story was no Lich. No, the Lich had fallen in love with thuselah. Hm, was Alexios also a druid?
That would not be good for us, I knew, but that did not an that we couldn’t defeat him.
Or so I hoped.
"A human. He was just a woodcutter. His clothes had more holes than fabric. I could see his ribs under his skin," I shuddered at the image of the one who had killed thuselah.
Oh, how I wished I could hate him.
"Why didn’t you stop him?" Aron did not sound judging. No, he sounded so, as if he just wanted to know.
"thuselah did not let . He just forced down the mountain. Teleported there. Told ... thuselah told that we will et again."
He had not told he loved . He had not told that we will never be apart.
"Well, yes, you will," Aron said, as his fingers beca even gentler. "But that is not everything you should worry about."
I blinked. Worry? What did he an?
"You will et him again when the world ends," he winked at , as he leaned in, and kissed my toe.
"How can you say that?" I asked him, my eyes were wide. "We are at war, Aron! People die at war!"
"The war?" Aron asked so, as if he was first learning of it. "Was a war, before you changed the rules. You are kidnapping zombies, having vampires make porridge to enslave other vampires," he sounded so, as if he were proud.
I did not understand him. I wanted to but knew that I will never manage.
"But now, it is no war," Aron said, winking at . "Now it is a fight. A fight we can win!"
"King Alexios will figure out who is behind his losses," I whispered, for that was the truth of the matter.
"Yes," Aron agreed, as he hugged close. "But that does not an that we are going to lose."
It was a strange thing to say. We were up against the Necromantic Union. With only 2,000 human soldiers, who, by so miracle, were still alive.
And yet, I dared to hope.
For there was nothing stronger than hope.
Nothing warr than Aron’s faith in .
