After leaving the chamber of the forest they entered a narrow passage that seed deliberately complex and the sa happened with the glyphs carved on the walls that now covered the entirety of the surface. The change was so overwhelming that even Nika couldn't help but notice it and decided to ask, though more than curiosity she wanted to take Uriel's mind off of his recently lost Jaguar friend.
"What's the deal with this gibberish? Is there a reason why there were so few carvings in the walls at the beginning of this dungeon and now the walls look like my school table."
"So, you did go to school." Uriel gasped jokingly. Nika couldn't tell whether he was actually relaxed or if he was feigning it. Nevertheless it helped to ease a part of her worries.
"Co on, I'm being serious. This gives a bad vibe. It's like we're walking on to the boss chamber of an old arcade ga."
"Well, you shouldn't worry about it so much because you're already acquainted with the last boss of this dungeon," Uriel then leaned closer to the wall to confirm his suspicion before explaining it to Nika. "primitive technologies are pretty basic. People in the neolithic did not need to understand the nature of fire in order for them to cook their als or stay warm. The use of more complex materials or basic machinery like the press require a basic understanding of the laws of nature, which need a more thorough explanation which is why the walls leading to the last chamber were more generous with the writing."
"I see, so that's why they had to make this passage so convoluted. So they had more space to doodle." Nika nodded knowingly.
"I did not think of that, but I guess so. These glyphs right here describe the underlying principles of physics of light which is a requirent for... I don't know, telescopes maybe?"
"Oh! So the all knowing archaeologist Uriel Sage doesn't actually know everything." Nika said in a mocking laughter as she covered her mouth with a hand.
"I'm not a scientist." Uriel shrugged.
"But still, you should at least know that understanding how light works is needed for photography." Nika poked Uriel's ribs who then froze on the spot.
"That's it! Rember Saint Germain?"
"Do you an Ponce de Leon?"
"Yes, that guy must have made it here. I know because he conducted experints about light and whatnot. The thing is, that technology was ant to be discovered in this continent and then be traded with people from the other continents, but the natives never made it this far and that is why that technology never ca to be here."
"Uh, but it did. Caras were not even that expensive."
"Maybe, but Saint Germain did not share the technology with the natives and took it with him back to Europe." Uriel exclaid and Nika matched her thrilled tone.
"And that is why he got kicked out by the perverted old man!"
"Atsa, yes! He must have kicked him out because he leaked technology that was ant to stay here. So that ans, the arrival and everything that happened after that was masterfully planned by the european gods in order to conquest this continent." Uriel's mind started to make connections at a pace that didn't allow him to digest any information and for a second he was almost back to his old self, but the light in his eyes fizzled out as he realized that it would not make a difference.
He had already made his mind about how to deal with the current situation and he already had all the answers he needed to complete the puzzle. Thinking about the reasons why the gods from the Olimpieion had decided to conquest other continents was useless. Furthermore, if he failed in his current goal he would never have the chance to share the knowledge he acquired now as he would be dead. But even if he succeeded the case would be the sa as he would not be himself anymore.
The walk continued in a silence broken from ti to ti by Nika's exclamations of awe at first, then exasperation as the path seed to be endless. Not just that, the more she could feel an oddly familiar sensation, though more than nostalgia it brought back only nightmares.
"I'm cold, can you hold for a minute before we go in?" She ekly asked Uriel with longing in her eyes right before the entrance to he next chamber. She bit her lower lip and crossed her arms to hug herself, making sure to lift her breasts in the most suggestive way she could co up with.
"That's because you still dress as a pervert. Did you not learn anything the first ti?" Uriel casually replied while studying the glyphs on the threshold.
"I don't know what kind of technology is it, this is our last chance to turn back." She said as she nudged on him.
"If you decided to join just to convince to back out in the last minute, then you're seriously underestimating my resolve. From the mont you decided to co with, your fate was sealed."
"For real?" Nika opened her eyes wide as fear struck her like the thunder after a lightning bolt.
"Yes, we can't go back. They're blocking the exit, so the only way out is through. But we may have ran into a bigger problem." Uriel declared as if informing Nika that she was going to die no matter if they succeeded or not was not enough.
"Great, this is just great!" Nika dropped the damsel in distress act as she furrowed her brows.
"This says 'Only those of a pure heart will be allowed to exist after entering the naless chamber.' It also says what's going to happen to those who don't have a pure heart and it's not pretty. I assud this would not be an issue until the last chamber, but I was wrong."
"So, this is the palce where only virgins can enter. I know this may co as a shock, but I'm not a virgin!" Nika sarcastically remarked.
"I know, I am, but the thing is... I don't have a pure heart because I don't have one!"
"So, this ans all this ti you've been holding on to your virginity like a monk it was for nothing?" Nika and Uriel both laughed, though both of them found it more painful than funny.
"We should have brought your nun friend." Uriel sighed.
"She may be a nun now, but I t her before she took the habit and let tell you, she's not virgin either."
"Maybe, but she's a priestess. That's the way ti was ant to be I think. To have your heart cleansed before entering this chamber."
"If that's the case then why didn't you bring her in the first place!?" Nika scolded.
"Because I didn't think I would need her and I still don't think so. Now it's not about whether my heat remains pure or not, it's about my lack of a heart in the first place. But you really are lucky. This was ant as a one way trip, but I'll be going the rest of the way by myself. Take care." Uriel said as he grabbed Nika's chin to kiss her on the lips.
With a disarming smile and a casual tip of his hat, Uriel turned his back on Nika and entered the chamber leaving Nika all but frozen on the spot. It wasn't a childish kiss on the cheek or a casual peck on the lips, it was a deep kiss that should have left her without a breath. But it didn't. She only felt sadness and regret as she curled up and saw Uriel walking inside the chamber that looked oddly similar to the top of Kukulkan's castle.
She witnessed Uriel walking up the stairs at a distance, unable to follow him, unable to even speak to him as she knew that sounds would not cross the threshold. She could only cry as she saw how two tall figures stood erect in waiting for Uriel to reach them as he climbed step by step the staircase with exactly 91 steps.
"Hang on... if the naless horrors are there... then..." Nika wiped her tears off at the sa ti the horror level cryptids lunged towards Uriel who seemingly disappeared amidst blue sparks of electricity, the sign that he activated Dash as soon as the fight broke out.
It was difficult for Nika to see exactly what was going on, not only because of the distance and the thin veil that seemingly separated the chamber from the rest of reality. But also because Uriel's movents were faster than she ever witnessed. Flux ca from his back so dense, it could be seen with the naked eye and although no sounds reached her she could tell each strike caused shockwaves in the air. Though the best part ca when Uriel casually landed on top of the structure inside the chamber after delivering a swift swing of the bastard sword that sohow managed to slice one of the two horrors in half.
And then it happened, the horror level cryptid reford itself.
